this work describes properties of the mixed mesh approach that are especially suitable for generating families of meshes to assess the grid refinement convergence of CFD solvers. the paper outlines how a regular grid refinement is achieved throughout the domain. the distributions of characteristic grid quality metrics are compared and a grid convergence study is outlined for a commonly used case for outer aerodynamics, the Boeing CRM configuration of the 5th AIAA Drag Prediction Workshop.

this paper investigates adaptive control for a class of nonlinear system with uncertain parameters and unknown disturbances. We propose method of improving performance of the controller via modeling and simulation analysis. the method is achieved under different simulation circumstances. It is shown that the global asymptotical stability of closed-loop system can be guaranteed by nonlinear adaptive robust design. the simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the presented method.

this extended abstract presents topology optimisation which uses level set functions representing the moving boundaries. the level set function based approach to topology optimisation has gained much popularity in the recent years due to its numerical stabilities and clear boundary representation of the solution. One advantage of the level set representation is its inherent capability to handle topological changes such as merging and splitting boundaries. We have developed a stable hole nucleation algorithm which makes the level set formulation completely suitable for topology optimisation. We demonstrate that our level set topology optimisation, both in 2D and 3D. have good convergence properties and less dependency 011 the initial design. We apply this to typical structural optimisation problems as well as coupled aero-structural problems. As coupled multidisciplinary optimisation problems have multiple optima, we find that the solutions 3D level set topology optimisation produce can be quite different from the solutions from the previous element- based approaches and simplified 2D solutions, suggesting potential alternatives.

In the paper a concept for integrated and simple-to-use agent-based modeling and simulation environment is presented. the modeling environment allows simulating massive agent-based systems. modeling environment itself is not domain specific, but it is expandable and allows creating domain-specific models. Hierarchical environment structure is supported. Individual agents could evolve by its individual path and pace. We use the General Living Systems theory as a reference model to check whether proposed modeling and simulation environment may also be used to describe models of living systems that are most complex systems around. the main concepts of proposed modeling environment such as agent, environment, communication arena, attribute are described, and class model withthe main concepts is given. Scope of features for proposed modeling environment are described and illustrated. We give an overview of technical implementation and prototyping in Erlang programming language.

the description of heterogenous material is here given within the probabilistic framework, where uncertain material properties in time and/or space are represented by stochastic processes and fields. For material with uncertain structure such as quarry, masonry etc., we study the coupled heat and moisture trasnport modelled by the Künzel equations. the transport coefficients defining the material behavior are nonlinear functions of structural responses - the temperature and moisture fields - and material properties. In order to closely determine the mentioned parameters of such system we focus our attention on the solution of inverse problem via direct, non-sampling Bayesian update methods which combine the a priori information withthe measurment data for the description of the posterior distribution of parameters. Namely, we consider material parameters, observations and forward operator as random. Since the measurments are always polluted by some kind of measurment error we modell it here by a Gaussian distribution. the new approach has shown to be effective and reliable in comparison to most methods, which take the form of integrals over the posterior and compute them by sampling, e.g. Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC). In addition, we compare our method withthis and other Bayesian update methods.
