It is very seldom for us to think that in the communication process, the most important element is the listener (student) to be able to capture and process the information that we delivered to them accurately. Besides, have we ever think that even if the students are not considered as having learning disabilities, there are also students who might have the trouble to listen, understand and respond to the learning content that we delivered to them? Have we ever thought about how to measure, how far or how accurate that the students have achieved or responding back to us about what they have learned before? A study showed that the students that are having less listening ability are synonym with the problem of interaction, academic and behavior (Rowe, Stephanou & Hoad, 2007). If we let this kind of problems to continue, these students will have high potentials to drop outs. Moreover, this paper will also suggests the development of the auditory processing intervention instrument to identify the auditory processing abilities among students in higher education institution. ©2009 IEEE.

Use cases have been used to describe functional requirements of information systems in a natural language. In the design phase, use cases can be used to construct design model and then the model can be checked by some static analysis techniques. Since errors could be created while the design is refined and bugs could be planted in the implementation, after going through the software developing process, it is still question if the resulting system satisfies the original requirements. In this paper, we propose a new technique to rebuild use cases for web applications, thus we can compare the generated use cases with the designed use cases. For a web application, due to its special navigation character, we can get rich information in the log file while the user navigates the web. From the log file, we extract raw data that contains basic structures of the use case. After applying Natural language processing technique, we determine the boundary of raw data, reduce the data redundancy, and adjust the sentence, finally, we rebuild the use cases. Standford Parser has been employed to perform the sentence analysis for us. A prototype has been developed to support our technique. © 2009 IEEE.

In general, production control of digital workshops is a complicated systematical engineering. Because of lacking the methods and means of acquiring the manufacturing data in real time, the traditional production control methods cannot satisfy the real production control requirement of digital workshops. In this paper, we put forward an intelligent control system for digital workshop production. the main contributions include three aspects: Firstly, we introduce and adopt Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology as a means to acquire the manufacturing information in real time produced by the bottom-level manufacturing devices. Secondly, we develop the wcPML (workshop control with Physical Markup language) and utilize it to act as a media to realize the information visualized description and transmission between the top-level control systems and bottom-level manufacturing sites of workshops. thirdly, we adopt Java web technology and wireless LAN to build the infrostructure for the intelligent control system for workshop production. Some key enabling technologies for the intelligent control system also are presented and described following with some concluding remarks.

With the rapid growth of requirements on satellite remote sensing image data, effective management and efficient publication of increasingly large image data has become an urgent problem. Based on the features of massive image data and web publication, this paper does a deep research and a thorough discussion on multi-resolution pyramid model of global satellite remote sensing images, gives a reasonable indexing design and scheduling mechanism of mass image data. then it presents a management and publication engine of satellite image data. Finally, it shows an instance of a web based high-performance general-purpose publication system, which can meet multi-requests from clients with different access interfaces at the same time.

this paper presents an accessibility system which offers Arabic sign language (ArSL) for the Arabic deaf. this system enables deaf student to access the web for learning process. In that system the special needs of deaf learners are satisfied, e.g. bilingual information (Arabic text and ArSL), high level of visualization and interactive and explorative learning. the basic objective of our system is the support of the equal rights of deaf people for their access to the educational and training material on the web.

this paper presents the syntactic and semantic method for English-Korean machine translation (MT) using ontology for web-based MT system. We first build word class ontology from the English corpus and calculate the weight of relation between words in the same or different ontologies by counting the frequency of co-occurrence. With our constructed ontologies, we introduce the MT system model including the syntactic and semantic translation module. Each module translates the source language in different way. the syntactic translation module transforms the structure of English into Korean structure. the semantic translation module extracts an exact meaning of a word using ontologies. through the both translation modules the source language is naturally translated into a target language.

these proceedings contain the final versions of the papers presented at the 7th international Workshop on Finite-State Methods and Natural language processing (FSMNLP), held in Ispra, Italy, on September 11–12, 2008. the aim of the FSMNLP workshops is to bring together members of the research and industrial community working on finite-state based models in language technology, computational linguistics, web mining, linguistics and cognitive science on one hand, and on related theory and methods in fields such as computer science and mathematics on the other. thus, the workshop series is a forum for researchers and practitioners working on applications as well as theoretical and implementation aspects. the special theme of FSMNLP 2008 was high performance finite-state devices in large-scale natural language text processing systems and applications. the papers in this publication cover a range of interesting NLP applications, including machine learning and translation, logic, computational phonology, morphology and semantics, data mining, information extraction and disambiguation, as well as programming, optimization and compression of finite-state networks. the applied methods include weighted algorithms, kernels and tree automata. In addition, relevant aspects of software engineering, standardization and European funding programmes are discussed.

this article proposes a prototype development of ET (Embedded technology) rescue robot that follows an object-oriented analysis and design methodology (OOADM) by using a UML (Unified modeling language) as a tool in the process. the idea is to improve the robot application development process to be efficient, rapid, and conformable with the standard by using the UML. the ET rescue robot prototype comprises of the two systems; a robot control system and a victim discovering system. the robot operation control is performed by a computer that interconnects the robot via a Bluetooth network. the operator monitors the robot operation by using video, sound, and temperature data that are captured through a camera, sound sensor, and temperature sensor installed on the robot to discover the victim, respectively. the robot was tested and experimented under the environment imitated the victim discovery in disastrous scenario. the result reflected that the prototype of ET rescue robot can be developed in the application level by following the OOADM as specified in the requirements.

In this paper, we analyze several issues involved in developing effective routing schemes for the LEO satellite network. It is observed that the relative movement of the satellites in the constellation has a significant impact on the ISL connectivity. Motivated by this observation, we develop a new effective algorithm called handover aware topology-slice (HATS) routing algorithm for LEO the satellite network. the algorithm focuses on reducing the delay jitter induced by changes of the ISL connectivity. It is shown that the proposed algorithm results in providing better performance in terms of the delay jitter when compared with the previously proposed routing algorithm.

Trust problems exist in open distributed service oriented computing environments. A lot of research work has been done on the theories and applications of trust and reputation management in service oriented environment. However, the design expertise on trust is not well documented yet. In this paper we propose to use trust patterns for documenting solutions for trust problems. the main benefit of using trust patterns is that it decouples the application domain expertise from the trust expertise. We also present a reputation service pattern as a solution to the trust problem in service provision which is one of the significant problems in service oriented computing environments.
