the technologies provide new innovative virtual environments that stimulate the learning process by facilitating information handling and encouraging processes of communication through the increased variety of forms. the information flood phenomenon is complex and multifaceted therefore the information search and selection demand a cognitive activity. information culture of a person is a combination of knowledge, skills and habits of work withinformation and withinformation technologies which could be considered to be the user's information culture. On the other hand, the English language as "the language of science and technology" serves as a mediator in the information search not only for personal purposes, but also for the study and research purposes online, thus foreign language knowledge is one of the most important pre-conditions. the aim of the paper is to find out the students' habits of using e-environment in the English language and the role of the English language studies at the university (ESP) in the use of e-environment in the study process of special subjects. the focus of ESP courses at the university is on 1) the development of knowledge and skills necessary for the reception (reading and listening) of scientific and professional texts to broaden students' knowledge of major subjects and 2) production skills (speaking and writing) related to scientific and professional activities. the ESP teaching/learning is built on printed and online authentic materials, popular science publications, free online resources, tailor-made tasks and activities, since only a few agriculture specialities have ESP course books. Besides, in such fields as economics, the situation is changing every year, and the material, which was used two years ago, is obsolete now. therefore ESP courses are based on blended learning, incorporating various forms of web-enhanced language learning: web-search activities, online ESP reading materials, web-quest activities, use of e-dictio

We report on the embedding of a domain specific language, (X)HTML, into Haskell and demonstrate how this weblanguage can be represented and rendered for strong World Wide web Consortium (W3C) compliance. Compliance of web content is important for the health of the Internet, accessibility, visibility, and reliable search. While tools exist to verify web content is compliant according to the W3C, few systems guarantee that all dynamically produced content is compliant. We present CH-(X)HTML, a library for generating compliant (X)HTML content for all dynamic content by using Haskell to encode the non-trivial syntax of (X)HTML set forth by the W3C. Any compliant document can be represented withthis library, while a compilation or run-time error will occur if noncompliant markup is attempted. To demonstrate our library we present examples, performance measurements, and a discussion of library version considerations.
Today, the explosive amount of information on the web has become the major challenge for web searchers. Despite the improvements of search engine technologies, searching for specific information is sometimes still an ...

One of the most common current problems in medical data exchange is the lack of a standardized form of exchange. this paper presents a medical data exchanging platform for communication between a web personal health record (WWW-PHR) and a mobile personal health record (m-PHR). the increased number of smart phones with high processing capabilities and applications help many health institutions use these devices for medical purposes. the contribution of this paper is to develop a communication module between m-PHRs and WWW-PHRs that provide interoperability between different medical entities in unified manner by using a common message standard Continuity of Care Record (CCR) and message vocabulary standards. In addition the communication module uses the available transmission channels anywhere, even withthe lack of internet or broadband coverage. It also ensures the security of the transmitted data. It is developed using free tools and open source software to enable future enhancements.

Challenges in creating comprehensive text-processing worklows include a lack of the interoperability of individual components coming from different providers and/or a requirement imposed on the end users to know programming techniques to compose such workflows. In this paper we demonstrate Argo, a web-based system that addresses these issues in several ways. It supports the widely adopted Unstructured information Management Architecture (UIMA), which handles the problem of interoperability;it provides a web browser-based interface for developing workflows by drawing diagrams composed of a selection of available processing components;and it provides novel user-interactive analytics such as the annotation editor which constitutes a bridge between automatic processing and manual correction. these features extend the target audience of Argo to users with a limited or no technical background. Here, we focus specifically on the construction of advanced workflows, involving multiple branching and merging points, to facilitate various comparative evalutions. Together withthe use of user-collaboration capabilities supported in Argo, we demonstrate several use cases including visual inspections, comparisions of multiple processing segments or complete solutions against a reference standard, inter-annotator agreement, and shared task mass evaluations. Ultimetely, Argo emerges as a one-stop workbench for defining, processing, editing and evaluating text processing tasks.

Nowadays, SME have to take into account new business and management approaches, like CRM, as well as the support provided by ICT. In this scenario, SME would take advantage from a web-based service like ARNEIS, supporting an intelligent matching between supply and demand of CRM-related tools. Such a service needs a detailed knowledge base, and a friendly user interface (UI) enabling users to interact withthe formal knowledge base. In this chapter we claim that boththe knowledge representation and the user interaction mechanisms have to be based on a domain analysis (how users talk about CRM). the chapter presents three UI, based on on-line forms, business processes, and natural language. All three exploit semantic templates, i.e.. formal representations of dialog topics (key concepts in the descriptions of CRM activities). the proposed approach suggests a general solution to enable users to enter formal representations in systems based on semantic technologies.
Sharing Semantic web datasets provided by different publishers in a decentralized environment calls for efficient support from distributed computing technologies. Moreover, we argue that the highly dynamic ad-hoc sett...
