In this paper, as a part of a model for the effectiveness estimation of simulation-based acquisition (SBA), we propose a conceptual model that calculates an estimated cost for non-SBA of a system based the actual cost for SBA of the same system. the proposed model takes account of the profit gained through the use of modeling and simulation (M&S), which would be derived from considerable decrease of trials and errors in the entire acquisition process. In order to estimate the effectiveness of simulation-based acquisition quantitatively, development cost for simulation models should be carefully considered within the estimation. To that end, in this paper, we propose a method for the estimation of development cost for three types of models. For each unit model, its size is computed by size measurement approache(s), and then its development cost is estimated based on the measured size and the unit development cost calculated from past projects. the cost for the whole model can be obtained by tallying up the costs of all unit models. A proof-of-concept tool is currently being developed based on the proposed method.

Furthermore, the development and configuration of these applications are difficult tasks that require expertise in diverse domains, including softwareengineering, control engineering, and computer vision. As a solution to these problems, this paper extends and integrates our previous works, which are based on two promising techniques: Cloud Robotics and software Product Lines. Cloud Robotics provides a powerful and scalable environment to offload the computationally expensive algorithms resulting in low-cost processors and light-weight robots. software Product Lines allow the end user to deploy and configure complex robotics applications without dealing with low-level problems such as configuring algorithms and designing architectures. this paper discusses the proposed method in depth, and demonstrates its advantages with a case study.

We adopt an ontology-driven information system design for research purposes. It is adaptable and extensible solution in the situation where the main features are the lack of a stable data model and changing and varying requests. We use ontology-driven design primarily as a collaboration tool for the research. Members directly collaborate and use this information system to ease them tasks with management of source/raw data, softwareapplications and research results for its whole life-time. A different heterogeneous data kinds and a large volume data sets could be stored and shared together withits description meta data between research teams and its members in an uniform manner. It leads to an opportunity to process a stored data using proper methods and tools in a parallel and distributed computing environment. All achieved results are automatically stored and supplemented by an ontology-driven description meta data.
