the computational requirements of the increasingly sophisticated algorithms used in today's robotics software applications have outpaced the onboard processors of the average robot. Furthermore, the development and configuration of these applications are difficult tasks that require expertise in diverse domains, including software engineering, control engineering, and computer vision. As a solution to these problems, this paper extends and integrates our previous works, which are based on two promising techniques: Cloud Robotics and software Product Lines. Cloud Robotics provides a powerful and scalable environment to offload the computationally expensive algorithms resulting in low-cost processors and light-weight robots. software Product Lines allow the end user to deploy and configure complex robotics applications without dealing with low-level problems such as configuring algorithms and designing architectures. this paper discusses the proposed method in depth, and demonstrates its advantages with a case study.

We adopt an ontology-driven information system design for research purposes. It is adaptable and extensible solution in the situation where the main features are the lack of a stable data model and changing and varying requests. We use ontology-driven design primarily as a collaboration tool for the research. Members directly collaborate and use this information system to ease them tasks with management of source/raw data, software applications and research results for its whole life-time. A different heterogeneous data kinds and a large volume data sets could be stored and shared together with its description meta data between research teams and its members in an uniform manner. It leads to an opportunity to process a stored data using proper methods and tools in a parallel and distributed computing environment. All achieved results are automatically stored and supplemented by an ontology-driven description meta data.

the getRNIA is a software tool for the rough-set based framework RNIA (Rough Non-deterministic Information Analysis), which can handle tables with uncertain data, especially non-deterministic data. this paper considers new functionalities in the getRNIA system for enhancing its ability. the first is the parallelization of the NIS-Apriori algorithm, and the second is the introduction of a new descriptor with disjunctive values, which we name Or-descriptor. the final is the estimation of the actual values in tables with uncertain data.

Research interest of small clusters of the transition metals continues to grow given their wide range of applications. In recent years, graphene with vacancy and structural defects have attracted increasing attention due to the fact that manufactured graphene is often not pristine, and crystal defects are considered useful in the context of modifying and engineering the band structure of graphene, hence altering both its physical and chemical properties significantly. Previous studies done on the Stone-Wales defect shows that C-C bonds associated with Stone-Wales defects are more reactive than the case for a perfect hexagon. In this work, we investigated the structural, electronic and magnetic properties of Co, Rh and Ir adatoms and dimers in various configurations adsorbed on a graphene sheet with a Stone-Wales transformation. We are interested in the change in bonding and the change in electronic and magnetic properties as a result of the presence of the metal adatom near the Stone-Wales defect by comparison to previous work done where the adatom was adsorbed on graphene with no defects. the results of this work will impact our view on the application of small metal clusters adsorbed on defected or non-defected graphene. Our results show that the Stone-Wales defect significantly increased the adsorption energy by 0.32 eV of a Co atom positioned at the hole site of a 6-carbon ring but the magnetic moment showed no significant change. Hence, the Stone-Wales defect could be used to significantly alter the stability of the adsorption of adatoms on graphene. © 2014 Low Raelynna. Redundancy, a method being designed to prevent failures due to software/hardware problem, is one of the most common applications in fault-tolerance systems. In this paper, we provide a multi-root I/O virtualization (MR-IOV) based redundant system architecture which supports high performance, reliability, and scalability to improve conventional redundant architecture with hardware multiplexer for the fail-over function. In order to fix this drawback, we proposed a redundant architecture to save these statuses in the shared memory, and the backup system will apply the states to fail-over primary host. From experiment results, we observe that the proposed architecture is feasible and it is better than the conventional redundant architecture.

Decision making for Supplier selection is the practice for a firm to identify, evaluates and contract with suppliers. the supplier selection practice deploys a significant amount of a manufacture's financial resources. In return, manufacturer expects significant benefits from contracting with suppliers offering high value. As Today the average manufacturer spends roughly half its revenue to purchase goods and services. this makes a company's success dependent on their interactions with suppliers. To survive in the intensely competitive global economy, it is often critically important to not only develop existing suppliers but also to discover new suppliers. Many theoretical and logical models have been developed for addressing the supplier selection problem (SSP). this paper focuses on a case-based reasoning (CBR) and fuzzy logic approach which is a recently recommended method for solving the SSP by making use of previous similar situations. Finally this integrated model is illustrated by an example in an existing manufacturing to validate the proposed model.

this paper proposes a support system for logotype design based on impression of a target logotype. the presented system has the impression estimate part, the logotype generation part and the logotype modification part. Especially, this paper describes the roles of the impression estimate part and the logotype generation part, and the procedure of generating an initial logotype design. Impression of a target logotype, which is expressed using an adjective, and a character string are inputted to the system. In the impression estimate part, the inputted adjective is analyzed by the concept of co-occurrence of adjectives and its impression value is obtained. the logotype generation part has an impression space that expresses a factor structure of impression of a logotype, which is obtained by factor analysis of data in the pre-experiment. this part generates logotype candidate that has the lowest degree of dissimilarity of the impression value among impression values of logotype samples in the impression space comparing with the impression value of an inputted adjective. the results of the subject experiment show that the initial logotype design generated by presented method reflects the inputted impression well.

When applying reinforcement learning algorithms such as Q-learning to real world problems, we must consider the high and redundant dimensions and continuity of the state-action space. the continuity of state-action space is often treated by value function approximation. However, conventional function approximators such as radial basis function networks (RBFNs) are unsuitable in these environments, because they incur high computational cost, and the number of required experiences grows exponentially with the dimension of the state-action space. By contrast, selective desensitization neural network (SDNN) is highly robust to redundant inputs and computes at low computational cost. this paper proposes a novel function approximation method for Q-learning in continuous state-action space based on SDNN. the proposed method is evaluated by numerical experiments with redundant input(s). these experimental results validate the robustness of the proposed method to redundant state dimensions, and its lower computational cost than RBFN. these properties are advantageous to real-world applications such as robotic systems.

the capability of a technique to reconstruct a tomographic image of flaws existence on gas pipeline via reverse ultrasonic tomography is presented. the ultrasonic tomography system is developed to monitor flaws circumferentially on pipeline with contactless measurement of distance from sensors to the pipe. In oil and gas industry, the applications of ultrasonic tomography technique for flaw detection in pipeline are limited as this technology is still in its infancy. the design of the ultrasonic tomography system consists of ultrasonic sensing system, data acquisition and image reconstruction system. A reflection mode of ultrasonic sensor is used where the output ultrasonic signal reflected from the pipe to the sensor is acquired. the collected data will be used in image reconstruction system to visualize the image. In image reconstruction process, a linear back projection algorithm is used in order to reconstruct the image of the pipe profile with flaws existence. the back projection algorithm is derived by the mathematical relationship of forward and inverse problem. this reconstruction algorithm is implemented in Matlab software to analyze the performance of the technique for different projection and arrays. through the simulated result, the reconstructed image based on four projections is found to be less smeared compared to the image based on two projections. the effect of aliasing on the image is also reduced as the number of projection is increased. Several images of pipe with flaws existence are reconstructed based on four projections, with 7 × 7 arrays of pixels and twenty-eight of ultrasonic sensors.

In today's information technology (IT) era, a major part of the costs is being spent on computational needs. Enterprises are in efforts to increase their Return on Investment (ROI) and individuals are trying to reduce their costs. In this regard, cloud computing which emerges as a fifth utility can reduce costs and enhance performance of IT solutions. A large number of companies and institutions are dealing with cloud related issues as a provider or user. Due to the fact that cloud computing services have been proposed in recent years, organizations and individuals face with various challenges and problems such as how to migrate applications and software platforms into cloud and how to ensure security of migrated applications and etc. Given that many different definitions of cloud computing is presented in many publications and projects, a concrete and clear definition for cloud computing considering its characteristics, models and services is provided in this paper. In addition, current challenges and open issues in cloud computing is discussed in details and further recommendations and roadmaps for scientific activities and researches as well as potentials for improvements in this area from scientific and commercial points of view are given in this paper. © 2013 IEEE.
