the rapid growth of supercomputer technologies became a driver for the development of natural sciences. Most of the discoveries in astronomy, in physics of elementary particles, in the design of new materials in the DNA research are connected with numerical simulation and with supercomputers. Supercomputer simulation became an important tool for the processing of the great volume of the observation and experimental data accumulated by the mankind. Modern scientific challenges put the actuality of the works in computer systems and in the scientific software design to the highest level. the architecture of the future exascale systems is still being discussed. Nevertheless, it is necessary to develop the algorithms and software for such systems right now. It is necessary to develop software that is capable of using tens and hundreds of thousands of processors and of transmitting and storing of large volumes of data. In the present work the technology for the development of such algorithms and software is proposed. As an example of the use of the technology, the process of the software development is considered for some problems of astrophysics.

Current parallel programming frameworks aid to a great extent developers to implement applications in order to exploit parallel hardware resources. Nevertheless, developers require additional expertise to properly use and tune them to operate on specific parallel platforms. On the other hand, porting applications between different parallel programming models and platforms is not straightforward and requires, in most of the cases, considerable efforts. Apart from that, the lack of highlevel parallel pattern abstractions in these frameworks increases even more the complexity for developing parallel applications. To pave the way in this direction, this paper proposes GrppI, a generic and reusable high-level parallel pattern interface for stream-based C++ applications. thanks to its high-level C++ API, this interface allows users to easily expose parallelism in sequential applications using already existing parallel frameworks, such as C++ threads, OpenMP and Intel TBB. We evaluate this approach using an image processing use case to demonstrate its benefits from the usability, flexibility, and performance points of view. © Springer international Publishing AG 2016.

Utilizing cloud-based services, users are required to first specify their goal of using such cloud based applications and then obtain service compositions satisfying their specific needs from the cloud service providers. the process involves dynamic pricing schemes for service provisioning between themselves and their cloud service providers. As a result, it is quite challenging with existing supply and demand driven approaches to ensure true dynamic resource provisioning for users with critical applications. To address this problem, we propose a game theory approach based on fuzzy logic which is then used to ensure aspects of resource provisioning on cloud. In our approach, we perform a trade-off for resources between service provider, cloud resource provider and service user based on the user demand and avoid rejecting users to ensure reliable resource provisioning. Experimental results demonstrate that our proposed approach can improve resource utilization associated with users.

Due to the increase of physical defects in advanced manufacturing processes, Networks-on-Chip (NoC) system reliability is a critical challenge as faults often occur post manufacturing. therefore it is important to add fault tolerance to the NoC system. In this paper, a novel routing algorithm for 2D mesh NoCs is proposed which aims to enhance the fault-tolerant capabilities via a look-ahead function. A traffic status informing mechanism is developed to provide information to local NoC routers on the interconnect conditions in far distant routers. In addition, a weighted path mechanism is used to forward the packets. the routing algorithm is implemented and verified on FPGA hardware. Real-time throughput and traffic information were collected by a monitoring unit on the FPGA. Results show that the proposed routing algorithm can maintain the system function under low fault rates and only has a marginal (*5 %) throughput degradation under high fault rate of 20%. the router area is also relatively low which demonstrated its scalability. © Springer international Publishing Switzerland 2015.

this paper studies a practically important problem of cloned tag detection in large-scale RFID systems where an attacker compromises genuine tags and produces their replicas, namely cloned tags, to threaten RFID applications. Although many efforts have been made to address this problem, the existing work can hardly satisfy the stringent real-time requirement, and thus cannot catch cloning attacks in a time-efficient way. Moreover, the existing work does not consider energy-efficiency, which is very critical when battery-powered active tags are used. To fill these gaps, this paper proposes a Location Polling-based Cloned tag Detection (LP-CTD) protocol by taking both time-efficiency and energy-efficiency into consideration. LP-CTD reports the existence of cloned tags when the reader finds an expected singleton slot appearing as collision one. To improve the efficiency of detecting cloned tags, only sampled tags in LP-CTD participate in the detection process. theoretical analysis on the proposed protocol is conducted to minimize their execution time and energy consumption. Extensive simulation experiments are conducted to evaluate the performance of the proposed protocols. the results demonstrate that the proposed LP-CTD protocol considerably outperforms the latest related protocols by reducing more than 80% of the execution time, and more than 90% of the energy consumption.

this paper introduces a heuristic-based scheduler to optimise the throughput and latency of stream programs with dynamic network structure. the novelty is the utilisation of positive and negative demands of the streamcommunications. It is a centralised approach to provide load balancing for stream programs with dynamic network structures. the approach is designed for shared-memory multi-core platforms. the experiments show that our scheduler performs significantly better than the reference implementation without demand considerations. © Springer international Publishing Switzerland 2013.

In this paper, we propose an implementation of a parallel two-dimensional fast Fourier transform (FFT) using Intel Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX) instructions on multi-core processors. the combination of vectorization and a block two-dimensional FFT algorithm is shown to effectively improve performance. We vectorized FFT kernels using the AVX instructions. Performance results of two-dimensional FFTs on multi-core processors are reported. We successfully achieved a performance of over 61 GFlops on an Intel Xeon E5-2670 (2.6 GHz, two CPUs, 16 cores) and over 24 GFlops on an Intel Core i7-3930K (3.2 GHz, one CPU, six cores) for a 212 x 212-point FFT. © 2012 Springer-Verlag.

Many scientific applications are described through workflow structures. Due to the increasing level of parallelism offered by modern computing infrastructures, workflow applications now have to be composed not only of sequential programs, but also of parallel ones. Cloud platforms bring on-demand resource provisioning and pay-as-you-go billing model. then the execution of a workflow corresponds to a certain budget. the current work addresses the problem of resource allocation for non-deterministic workflows under budget constraints. We present a way of transforming the initial problem into sub-problems that have been studied before. We propose two new allocation algorithms that are capable of determining resource allocations under budget constraints and we present ways of using them to address the problem at hand. © 2012 Springer-Verlag.

Proteins are one of the most vital macromolecules on the cellular level. In order to understand the function of a protein, its structure needs to be determined. For this purpose, different computational approaches have been introduced. Genetic algorithms can be used to search the vast space of all possible conformations of a protein in order to find its native structure. A framework for design of such algorithms that is both generic, easy to use and performs fast on distributed systems may help further development of genetic algorithm based approaches. We propose such a framework based on a parallel master-slave model which is implemented in C++ and Message Passing interface. We evaluated its performance on distributed systems with a different number of processors and achieved a linear acceleration in proportion to the number of processing units.
