the paper starts with a summary presentation of the demand side management in the context of electric energy consumption. After that, the concept of Internet of things integration in demand side management is presented together with its benefits, followed by two main architectures that can be used as solutions for data processing, Lambda and Kappa. the architectures are described in detail and compared between them based on advantages and disadvantages. the paper will end with the presentation of the prototype, which is describing the implementation of both architectures into a demand side management application, in context of Internet of things. Afterwards, the conclusions over the paper are stated.

Graphics processing units (GPUs) show very high performance when executing many parallel programs;however their use in solving linear recurrence equations is considered difficult because of the sequential nature of the problem. Previously developed parallel algorithms, such as recursive doubling and multi-block processing, do not show high efficiency in GPUs because of poor scalability with the number of threads. In this work, we have developed a highly efficient GPU-based algorithm for recurrences using a thread-level parallel (TLP) approach, instead of conventional thread-block level parallel (TBLP) methods. the proposed TLP method executes all of the threads as independently as possible to improve the computational efficiency and employs a hierarchical structure for inter-thread communication. Not only constant but also time-varying coefficient recurrence equations are implemented on NVIDIA GTX285, GTX580 and GTX TITAN X GPUs, and the performances are compared with the results on single-core and multi-core SIMD CPU-based PCs.

Cloud computing can be regarded as one of the best solutions to information technology problems. Most of the proposed scheduling algorithms try to minimize the execution time without considering the cost of accessing resources and mainly target environments resembling a community network. However, workflows were executed parallely in this paper to improve scheduling in cloud computing. For this purpose, the imperialist competitive and genetic algorithms were used. According to the simulation, the proposed algorithm produced better results of cost minimization in comparison with other algorithms. Finally, by applying an efficient scheduling process to the virtual machines running on the cloud, a number of parameters including system efficiency, response time and number of migration more than 10% optimized.

In many image and video processing algorithms, pre-processing filters are the first and most important step. these filters reduce the noise present in the images, preserving the required information depending on the action performed. Due to increasing demands for real time processing systems, the traditional software solutions cannot be chosen. In this paper, we are introducing a new hardware architecture for image processing filters, which are optimized to increase the speed of processing, which is vital for real time systems. the decision based algorithm used for optimizing the median filter helps in avoiding corruption of original pixels and the hardware optimization used for the Gaussian filter reduces the required computations, making it faster. the proposed architecture is simulated in ModelSim and the simulation results are presented.

this paper proposes a novel configuration data compression technique for coarse-grained reconfigurable architectures (CGRAs). the proposed technique is based on a multicast configuration technique called RoMultiC, which reduces the configuration time by multicasting the same data to multiple PEs(processing Elements) with two bit-maps. Scheduling algorithms for an optimizing the order of multicasting have been proposed. In general, configuration data for CGRAs can be divided into some fields like machine code formats. the proposed scheme confines a part of fields for multicasting so that the possibility of multicasting more PEs can be increased. this paper analyzes algorithms to find a configuration pattern which maximizes the number of multicasted PEs. We implemented the proposed scheme to CMA (Cool Mega Array), a straight forward CGRA as a case study. Experimental results show that the proposed method achieves 40.0% smaller configuration for an image processing application at maximum. Furthermore, it achieves 35.6% reduction of the power consumption for the configuration with a negligible area overhead.

Stencil patterns are widely used in scientific simulations and image processing. To parallelize these problems, we have to divide data into chunks that are processed by different processors. One challenge with this approach is the update of ghost cells, which are the neighbor values that calculated on remote processes. this paper focus on the update communication. We provide an abstract array types to describe distribution patterns, such as ghost cells, from global and intuitive view. Based on this description, a general copyto function is provided to perform communication automatically. Furthermore, our work makes it possible to design a distribution-independent algorithm. this results in better productivity on tuning performance.

the complexity of modern very large scale integrated circuits renders circuit simulation very essential in the design process, as it is the only feasible way to verify circuit's behaviour prior to manufacturing. the heart of circuit simulation relies on the solution of huge systems resulting after the modelling using Modified Nodal Analysis. Matrices arising in those systems are sparse Symmetric Diagonally Dominant (SDD) matrices, and as a result, iterative methods for efficiently manipulating them are very crucial to the performance of the simulation. In recent years, the emphasis has been placed on preconditioning methods which reduce the number of iterations for solving such systems, while significant advancements have been accomplished in efficient implementations on massively parallel architectures like GPUs. this paper presents a GPU-accelerated simulator, based on the Preconditioned Conjugate Gradient method, which exploits the Combinatorial Multigrid, a reliably efficient SDD solver based on support theory principles, for fast DC and transient analysis of large-scale circuits. Experimental results on IBM power grids, demonstrate speedups up to 4.56x and 5.10x for the PCG method and the CMG preconditioning algorithm, respectively, compared to the optimized CPU implementations.

the digitization of information is abundant in different areas related to digital image processing;its primary objective is to improve the quality of the image for a correct human interpretation or to facilitate the search of information patterns in a shorter time, with fewer computing resources, size and low energy consumption. this research is focused on validating a possible implementation using a limited embedded system, so the specified processing speed and algorithms that redistribute the computational cost are required. the strategy has been based on parallel processing for the distribution of tasks and data to the Epiphany III. It was combined to reduce the factors that introduce noise to the image and improve quality. the most common types of noise are Gaussian noise, impulsive noise, uniform noise and speckle noise. In this paper, the effects of Gaussian noise that occurs at the moment of the acquisition of the image that produces as a consequence blur in some pixels of the image is analyzed, and that generates the effect of haze (blur). the implementation was developed using the Many-core technology in 2 × 2 and 4 × 4 arrays with (4, 8, 16) cores, also the performance of the Epiphany system was characterized to FFT2D, FFT setup, BITREV, FFT1D, Corner turn and LPF and the response times in machine cycles of each algorithm are shown. the power of parallel processing with this technology is displayed, and the low power consumption is related to the number of cores used. the contribution of this research in a qualitative way is demonstrated with a slight variation for the human eye in each other images tested, and finally, the method is a useful tool for applications with resources limited. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2019.

parallel memory modules can be used to increase memory bandwidth and feed a processor with the required access patterns of data. the parallel storage mechanism organized and managed by multiple storage modules can suit applications of images and videos. Previous investigation into data storage schemes can be used to achieve continuous conflict free access by rows, columns or blocks, however it is not only satisfied with some sliding window applications in video and image processing algorithms (including convolutional neural networks, sub-pixel difference, 2D filtering, etc.) which need non-conflicting access by steps in computation, but also there is a different demand for horizontal and vertical strides in computing sub-processes. this paper presents a storage scheme that support for row access without collision alignment, and non-aligned block-with-stride access storage modes beginning at any address. theoretical proofs and experiments verify the correct ness of the module address (module number to which the address is mapped). And in hardware design, it was found that in the typical case there was no path violation and with less area overhead. It suitable for application of CNN to improve performance in algorithm in convolutional.

In distributed digitalized environments in the context of the Internet of things, we often need to do an analysis of big data originating at high rate-sensors at the edge of the infrastructure. A characteristic example is the light detection and ranging (LiDAR) technology, that allows sensing surrounding objects with fine-grained resolution in large areas. their data (known as point clouds), generated continuously at very high rates, through appropriate analysis can provide information to support automated functionality in distributed cyber-physical systems;clustering of point clouds is a key problem to extract this type of information. Methods for solving the problem in a continuous fashion can facilitate improved processing in fog architectures, through enabling low-latency, efficient continuous and streaming processing of data close to the sources;moreover, parallelism is a key requirement to exploit a variety of computing architectures in this context. We propose Lisco, a single-pass continuous Euclidean-distance-based clustering of LiDAR point clouds, that maximizes the granularity of the data processing pipeline and thus shows the potential for data- and pipeline-parallelism. We further present its parallel version, P-Lisco, that is architecture-independent and exploits the parallelism revealed by Lisco's algorithmic approach. Besides their algorithmic analysis, we provide a thorough experimental evaluation on architectures representative of high-end servers and of resource-constrained embedded devices and highlight the multiplicative improvements and scalability benefits of the proposed algorithms compared to the baseline, using both real-world datasets as well as synthetic ones to fully explore a wide spectrum of stress levels for the algorithms.
