Traditional congestion control algorithms exhibit low convergence speed to equilibrium in high BDP (Bandwidth Delay Product) networks. the Fast Max-Min Kelly Control (FMKC) is a new and promising protocol that performs well especially in fairness convergence speed. FMKC utilizes packet loss to switch temporarily into a fairing mode and thereby improve the fairness convergence speed. In this paper, we investigate FMKC, prove its stability with homogeneous delay and also study the convergence behavior of FMKC. Extensive simulations show that FMKC offers faster convergence rate than EMKC. Simulations also show that FMKC preserves the good properties of EMKC, such as delay-independent stability and max-min fairness in steady state.

this article proposes a prototype development of ET (Embedded technology) rescue robot that follows an object-oriented analysis and design methodology (OOADM) by using a UML (Unified modeling language) as a tool in the process. the idea is to improve the robot application development process to be efficient, rapid, and conformable with the standard by using the UML. the ET rescue robot prototype comprises of the two systems; a robot control system and a victim discovering system. the robot operation control is performed by a computer that interconnects the robot via a Bluetooth network. the operator monitors the robot operation by using video, sound, and temperature data that are captured through a camera, sound sensor, and temperature sensor installed on the robot to discover the victim, respectively. the robot was tested and experimented under the environment imitated the victim discovery in disastrous scenario. the result reflected that the prototype of ET rescue robot can be developed in the application level by following the OOADM as specified in the requirements.

A superior interpolation technique does not cause interpolated images distortion, nor does need complex computation. this paper presents a novel convolution interpolation for digital image reconstruction. the kernel of the piecewise linear convolution interpolation is built up of piecewise linear polynomial and approximates the ideal sinc-function in interval. the approach reduces the computational complexity of interpolation and the simulation results indicate that the interpolation quality is better than cubic convolution interpolations mostly.

In this paper, we present the design and the implementation of a test-bed for the Policy and Charging Control (PCC) system proposed in 3GPP TS23.203. Specifically, we use an IP multimedia call service example to demonstrate how to implement an advanced mobile service with policy and charging control in our test-bed. We show that the PCC system can handle the application-level session information and the network-level bearer information dynamically. the corresponding performance metrics (e.g., the signaling delays) can be obtained through our test-bed, which can be considered as one of our major contributions in this work.

Software Defined Radio (SDR) allows dynamically changing protocols and functions in order to provide flexible, multiple-standard services to users. A reconfigurable baseband architecture having a set of coarse-grained, heterogeneous execution units is one strategy which can meet this requirement. However, while we can integrate a large number of execution units onto a chip, conventional bus structures may not be able to support the amount of traffic between the functional units due to the shared nature of the bus. In this paper, an SDR baseband platform is mapped onto two different types of on-chip networks, a multicasting CDMA-based network and a conventional 2D-mesh network. Synthesis is performed for both cases using a 0.13 micron CMOS technology library and comparative results for performance and area are provided.

In this paper, a novel structure is derived for digital filter which is robust against the FWL errors. this structure, denoted as S IMP , is actually an improved version of the one reported in the work of Li et al. (2000) in terms of implementation efficiency and reducing quantization errors. the expression of transfer function sensitivity measure is derived for each structure. Two numerical examples are presented in order to demonstrate the performance of the proposed structure comparing with the transposed direct-form II structure S DFIIt , the structure S LGS , and two well known state-space realizations S ORth , S OPT . It is shown that S IMP is lower sensitivity than S LGS and much simpler than S ORth and S OPT structure.

the maximum likelihood (ML) detection is the optimal detection method for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) communication systems. the normal K-best sphere decoding algorithm (SDA) can guarantee a fixed throughput, but it induces a large bit error rate (BER) degradation. In order to achieve close-to-ML performance, the K value needs to be sufficiently large. thus, it needs large computation with long latency and low throughput. In this paper, a reconfigurable K-best SDA is proposed by using fixed K values for different layers of K-best detection, which can increase the MIMO detection performance. the architecture of 4×4 MIMO detector is designed for both 16QAM and 64QAM modulation.

Built upon overlay topologies, Peer-to-Peer (P2P) networks behave in an ad-hoc way, conduct application-layer routing, enable user customized decentralized resources sharing, and thus can be taken as an emerging representative of Active Networks. An important problem in current unstructured P2P networks is that, however, existing searching mechanisms do not scale well because they are either based on the idea of flooding the network with queries or because they know very little about the nature of the network topology. In this paper, we propose the Topology-oriented Active Overlay Network (TAON)which is an efficient, scalable yet simple protocol for improving decentralized resources sharing in P2P networks. TAON consists of three novel components: a Desirable Topology Construction and Adaptation algorithm to guide the evolution of the overlay topology towards a small-world-like graph, a Semantic based Neighbor Selection Scheme to conduct an online neighbor ranking, and a Topology-aware Intelligent Search mechanism to forward incoming queries to deliberately selected *** deploy and compare TAON with a number of other distributed search techniques over static and dynamic environments, and the results indicate that TAON outperforms its competitors by achieving higher recall rate while using much less network resources, in both of the above environments. ©IFIP international Federation for information processing 2009.

As a result of the development of computer network technology, communication of information through personal computer is becoming more convenient. Meanwhile, it also gives hackers opportunities to attack the network. therefore the communication security is now an important issue for multimedia communications. this paper proposed a hybrid encryption technique for the color image based on the multi-chaotic-system which combines Pixel-Chaotic-Shuffle (PCS) and Bit-Chaotic-Rearrangement (BCR). the idea of applying chaos theory on image encryption is because of the behavior of chaos system exhibiting nonlinear dynamics and sensitivity to initial conditions. therefore, the distinguished elements of variables applied to produce encryption codes for the color-image encryption can increase the communication security. In this paper, the pixels of plain image are firstly disarrayed by PCS, and then their bits are rearranged using BCR. this method increases the key space of images, completely eradicates the outlines of the encrypted images, blurs the distribution characteristics of RGB-level matrices, and effectively protects against the decryption of exhaustive attack method. the test methods involving key space and correlation coefficient r are adopted for the security analysis. Eventually, empirical images are adopted as examples to prove the great encryption performance of the proposed method and also the good potential for practical applications in image encryption.

A video sequence consists of several hundred frames and as a result creating a panoramic image from these frames is a very time consuming process. Consecutive frames have large overlap areas which do not provide much information. therefore, some key frames must be extracted for better performance. there are a number of methods for key frame selection, which match all frames in a video sequence. In this paper, we present a novel and efficient method to select key frames from video for creating a large panoramic mosaic without matching all frames. A Kalman filter is used to predict the overlap area between each frame and its previous key frame. It predicts the trajectory of each frame corner to estimate its position in a common mosaic surface. It is shown that this approach substantially reduces the time required to construct panorama from a video sequence.
