this paper discusses a novel design for a convertible hybrid drive quad-copter that is manually controlled to move across inaccessible places as a drone or a 4-wheeler bot using a self-transforming mechanism, equipped with a camera whose feed is accessed and passed through image processing algorithms to inspect various industrial systems like HVAC pipes and check for defects or anomalies such as rust and cracks in the pipes with advanced deep learning algorithms at the controller side. the designed sprawl mechanism enables the bot to reach narrow places and perform inspections. the novel Power Engage Disengage mechanism is crucial in saving power by delivering it either to the wheels (drive mode) or to the propellers (drone mode), but not both at the same time, making sure power is used efficiently which guarantees a longer run time and allows more area to be covered in a single inspection run. A Convolutional Neural Network is designed to detect multiple potential defects that are precise, accurate and yield faster results. With all these features, the designed convertible hybrid drive quad-copter can break dimensional constraints and provide precise analysis of any industrial structure. © 2022 the Institution of engineering and technology.

As the world continues to grapple with COVID-19, public places are opening gradually. However, it is necessary to adhere to the guidelines released by governments across the world to prevent an increase in the number of cases. the major guidelines which have proven to be quite effective include covering one's face and nose and maintaining distance from others. To enforce these guidelines, this work proposes a model to detect and classify people into three classes;wearing mask, no mask, and incorrectly worn mask using the YOLOv5 algorithm for object detection. A novel mathematical formula for distance estimation labels people as safe or unsafe based on the distance maintained from others. this model is trained specifically for helping in the enforcement of the guidelines in the context of reopening of indoor establishments like malls, theatres, and restaurants in India, where the general population makes use of various types of face coverings like handkerchiefs, scarves, face shields in addition to surgical and handmade masks. this work also provides a comparison between Scaled-YOLOv4 and YOLOv5 in terms of their accuracy with a custom dataset. the proposed model achieved a peak accuracy of 94.67% using the YOLOv5 algorithm and an accuracy of 92% for social distance estimation. the model trained using the Scaled-YOLOv4 algorithm achieved a much lower peak accuracy of 74.51%. © 2022 the Institution of engineering and technology.

Home Automation provides remote access to appliances and devices in a home via the internet. While this is easily achievable on a small scale, the challenge is making the system deployable in a manner that is scalable across a whole city in a developing nation. this paper proposes an end-to-end home automation suite with modular open source components. Our backend supports multiple IoT protocols and is horizontally scalable. We implement a 'Rules engine' that analyzes real-time data and triggers various actions pre-determined by users. We also implement energy monitoring for judicial energy consumption in a home. Our system, when deployed, can handle data coming from homes for an entire city. Each user will have remote control of devices in his home through an android application. the user will also be able to define rules to trigger actions in his home via a web dashboard. the architecture used ensures that the system scales as the data traffic increases. Our experiments on the prototype system show low latency for real time analytics even when there are large simultaneous data streams. Our main feature contributions are the modular and dynamic nature of our system, scalability, and real time analytics for quick decision making. © 2022 the Institution of engineering and technology.

Circular microstrip patch antennas with discontinuities in their feed line is presented in this paper. the antennas are composed of a radiating patch, and step discontinuities are given in its feed lines to improve the performance. the three circular microstrip planar array antennas through various signal excitation lines are computationally designed, and PCB etched, and their performance is analyzed based on various feed lines. the proposed array antenna operates in the ISM band at 2.45 GHz. the HFSS is used to design and perform the simulations. A prototype of an antenna effective at 2.45 GHz has been PCB etched and verified for concept demonstration. S11 [dB] at 2.45 GHz is -21.143 dB for straight feed line, - 22.0 dB for one step feed line, and -24.72 dB for two-step feed line. the computational and practical outcomes illustrate that the S11 [dB] is enhanced for circular microstrip patch array antennas with two-step feed lines. the simulated and measured scattering parameters and radiation patterns show that they are in good agreement. © 2022 the Institution of engineering and technology.

Transforming present global telecommunications networks into an integrated system capable of offering clients a diverse variety of ubiquitous communications services regardless of location, time of day, or mode of transportation, some devices are crucial because they have a direct impact on the performance of wireless communication. As wireless communication technology advances, smaller antennas are in demand. they often produce a single resonance frequency due to their small bandwidth. these antennas can produce resonances in multiple bands or with a wide bandwidth. this paper is divided into two segments, each focusing on a distinct area of communication technology. the first is investigating and designing novel ultra-wideband (UWB) high-appreciative DRA antennas. the purpose of this study is to determine the effect of patch length, patch width, microstrip line length and breadth, substrate height, and dielectric constant on suggested wireless antenna arrays. the proposed antenna is created and simulated with the High-Frequency Simulator Structure (HFSS) program and then fabricated via photolithography etching. these parameters were simulated and confirmed using the indicated system's return loss and radiation pattern. the proposed antenna can be used for wireless communication applications in the C-band, X-band, and Ku-band bands. the suggested antenna's numerical design and implementation are illustrated (manufacturing and testing). © 2022 the Institution of engineering and technology.

Demand for large bandwidth is increasing day by day due to the extensive usage of the internet, various gaming applications, and mobile communication. Optical fibers fulfill this requirement because it has enormous bandwidth. In the present article, we have designed a wideband WDM system, which operates in E, S, C, and L bands, over a bandwidth of 29.509 thz (or 273 nm). In the proposed wideband WDM system, the four channels operated at 1427 nm (E band), 1520 nm (S-band), 1550 nm(C band), and 1600 nm (L band). the data rate used was 40 Gbps. the system is analyzed by varying the fiber length from 25 km to 125 km and laser power from -5 dBm to 10 dBm. the system's performance is evaluated by BER, quality factor, output optical power, and eye diagram. We successfully demonstrated that at -5 dBm/100km, the quality factor and BER as 9.39, 9.16, 10.20, 6.76 and 2.80 x10-21, 2.32x10-20, 9.45x10-25, 6.55x10-12. Similarly, at 10 dBm/125km the Q factor and bit error rate was 5.13, 24.32, 16.18, 7.64 and 1.36x10-07, 5.39x10-131, 2.99x10-59, 1.05x10-14 for 10 dBm for the four channels respectively. the proposed wideband WDM system was designed and simulated using optisystem 13. © 2022 the Institution of engineering and technology.

Missing and abduction of children is a big social issue nowadays. According to the National Crime Records Bureau, India reports more than 100 children go missing every day. Children are in the developing stage till their adulthood. their biometrics also go through many changes. therefore, biometric identification system for children is not yet developed. Children's recognition using their biometrics is a challenging task. Many researchers are working on this problem using different biometrics, such as finger, foot, palmprint, face, iris, ear and headprint. However, the issue is not yet resolved satisfactorily. the problem in recognizing children is the small size of biometrics. It is under developing stage, therefore displacement of key features observed, which leads to false acceptance. In this research the footprint biometric is used for identification of children. Most of the work done in literature is in verification mode. In this paper biometric identification is performed which will be helpful in finding the missing children. the database of 50 children's footprint is collected. the age of the children is 1 month to 5 years. Two types of input images are compared to achieve high accuracy. First input images are obtained by pre-processing and Region of Interest (ROI) extraction of the crease pattern from footprint images. Second are obtained by texture-based enhancement of crease pattern's ROI. Both the inputs are compared using state-of-the-art techniques and modern deep learning algorithms. the deep learning algorithm with enhanced crease patterns is giving 100 % accuracy, which is higher than the literature. © 2022 the Institution of engineering and technology.

Wearable step counting devices, such as smartwatches and activity trackers, have become ubiquitous, embedding sensors like Inertial Measurement Units (IMUs), barometers, and GPS systems to monitor physical activity. Despite their widespread use, these devices often restrict access to raw data, limiting their utility in research. this study introduces a customizable IMU-based unit, designed for flexible data acquisition and integration into a body sensor network (BSN), which can serve as a reference system for validating commercial smartwatches. the IMU-based unit transmits data via the ANT protocol and stores backups on an SD card to mitigate transmission data loss. Five volunteers participated in a protocol involving various conditions, such as resting, walking on a treadmill, walking outdoors, and climbing stairs. Preliminary results indicate that the IMU-based unit detects steps correctly accordingly to the typical waveforms reported in the literature the flexibility of the IMU-based unit allows for extensive post-processing and analysis, making it a valuable tool for validating commercial wearable devices and advancing research in physical activity monitoring. Future improvements include integrating multiple units and adopting Bluetooth Low Energy for enhanced data transmission and compatibility. © ICST Institute for Computer Sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications engineering 2025.

Unique code system (UQS) can solve the security problem of the key system well, but it is insufficient in dealing with human malicious behavior. Quantum key distribution can ensure that any attempt to steal the key in transit will be discovered by legitimate users. the combination of quantum key distribution technology and UQS technology can effectively deal with the occurrence of malicious initiation events. this paper analyzes the feasibility of quantum key distribution technology in the application of UQS and looks forward to the application prospect in the field of security control of critical systems. © 2022 IEEE.
