Recently, popularity of multimedia content sharing among the internet users and development of wireless mobile devices have promoted a trend of deploying Peer-to-Peer (P2P) networks over mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) for mobile content distribution. However, due to nodes' frequent movement, limited radio transmission range, sparse distribution and power limitations, MANETs may become Delay Tolerant Network (DTN). therefore, this wireless mobile P2P networks over DTN have to be studied. Sharing multimedia files among users is an important application in wireless mobile P2P networks. Even though various multimedia content sharing mechanism in P2P networks over MANET have been proposed in the literature. However, DTN experiences frequent and long-duration partitions, therefore, the original method does not apply to DTN scenario. In this work, we propose a distributed Multisource Parallel Coadjutant Transmission (DMPCT) mechanism of multimedia based on P2P lookup protocol. the proposed transmission scheme enables multimedia files to be sent to the receiver fast and reliably in wireless mobile P2P networks over DTN. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed scheme significantly improves the performance of the file delivery rate and file delivery delay compared with the existing scheme.

distributed systems require an efficient way to manage access to shared data and using lock management system is a software-based solution to it. Current locks a re mostly special purpose locks and do not consider the heterogeneity needed for these systems. In this paper, we use the concept of semaphore as a basic structure to manage critical regions in a distributed heterogeneous system. We propose a distributed lock mechanism that is implemented with the aim of simplicity and ability to run on heterogeneous systems. the comparison of this lock mechanism with other comparable mechanisms indicates that it has the necessary and sufficient locking facilities and supports heterogeneous distribution. Besides, we report different average operation times of our implemented lock. © 2011 AICIT.

the proliferation of smart transportation has significantly promoted explosive growth of the internet of Vehicles (IoV). Especially, with the rapid development of the 5-th generation mobile networks (5G), amounts of computation-intensive and latency-sensitive vehicle applications impose heavy pressures to such limited vehicles. To address this issue, Multi-access Edge computing (MEC) has served as a promising paradigm to facilitate those devices at the edge of wireless networks. Computation offloading is a critical technology that decides which tasks should be offloaded for minimizing the energy and time cost. However, conventional methods are inefficient to deal with dependency-aware subtask topologies from vehicles, which leads to low efficiency and waste of edge resources, especially for multi-vehicles scenarios. In this paper, we investigate the subtask topologies of IoV applications. Directed acyclic graphs (DAGs) are utilized to obtain the priority of task scheduling. Further, take privacy protection and optimal resource allocation into consideration, we put forward a distributed deep reinforcement learning (DRL) strategy based on policy gradient without information sharing in edge computing. Especially, both actor and critic network employ convolutional layer and transformer to learn the optimal mapping from the input states to the offloading decision for each subtasks. Numerical results show that, for various experimental settings, compared with the existing offloading methods, the proposed scheme achieves the superior performance. © 2021 IEEE.

the increased use of virtual connections in packet switched networks, in particular over the internet, using MPLS and GMPLS evolution has produced a significant amount of studies on traffic engineering protocols, especially with regard to the different ways to provide quality of service over connections. this article presents a model to characterize the reliability of these types of networks, in computing restricted route domain. With these elements, an application is proposed, to establish virtual connections with likely default reliability on MPLS / GMPLS networks. © 2011 IEEE.

this study achieves Quality-of-Service (QoS) management in heterogeneous networking using a distributed multiagent scheme (DMAS) based on the concept of cooperation and the awareness algorithm. the proposed scheme is developed for supporting QoS management in a user-accepted and cost-effective fashion, which consists of a collection of problem-solving agents with three modules: the knowledge source, the in-cloud blackboard system, and the control engine built into the scheme. A set of problem-solving agents autonomously process local tasks and cooperatively interoperate via an in-cloud blackboard system to guarantee QoS. An awareness algorithm, called the Q-learning algorithm, calculates the exceptive rewards of a handoff to all access networks. these rewards are then used by these problem-solving agents to determine what to do. through operations and cooperation among the active agents, a policy is selected and a user-accepted schedule that meets the specified QoS is generated. Compared with traditional QoS management mechanisms, the proposed DMAS scheme has a 36% lower packet loss ratio in video streaming applications and a 34% lower average delay in VoIP applications with only a minor sacrifice in system computational complexity.

We call radiation at a point of a wireless network the total amount of electromagnetic quantity (energy or power density) the point is exposed to. the impact of radiation can be high and we believe it is worth studying and control;towards radiation aware wireless networking we take (for the first time in the study of this aspect) a distributed computing, algorithmic approach. We exemplify this line of research by focusing on sensor networks, studying the minimum radiation path problem of finding the lowest radiation trajectory of a person moving from a source to a destination point in the network region. For this problem, we sketch the main ideas behind a linear program that can provide a tight approximation of the optimal solution, and then we discuss three heuristics that can lead to low radiation paths. We also plan to investigate the impact of diverse node mobility to the heuristics' performance.

Vehicular Sensor Network (VSN) is being seriously considered as a key enabling technology as it allows vehicles to communicate with each other (v2v) and/or with roadside infrastructure (v2r). Effectively use of wireless communication can enhance various types of traffic applications. Dedicated Short-Range Communication (DSRC) standard is an ideal candidate for supporting wireless access in VSN environment characterized by multichip connectivity, high vehicle mobility, and heterogeneous services with a variety of QoS requirements. It can achieve higher data rates, wider communication range and coexist with internet and other mobile communication network. In this paper, we present an overview of the multiple associated standards suite of DSRC, especially detail the core part of DSRC- IEEE 802.11p and multichannel operation, also including the amendments and enhancements. Additionally, the performance analysis mechanisms for the reliability and scalability of DSRC system have been introduced by defining available metrics.

Due to the dramatically increasing amount of multimedia contents in several application domains, effective and flexible solutions for distributed data indexation are essential. In the management of these multimedia contents, the indexing process is the most important resource consumer, in terms of data transfer over the network and CPU consumption. As result of our research, we located two points for reducing resource consumption: the limitation of multimedia content transfer over the network for indexing, as well as the reduction of multimedia indexing amount by employing only the most appropriate algorithms for performing indexation, only over the relevant contents. We present in this paper the solution developed in the context of the LINDO project for indexing multimedia content into a distributed system that originally address these two points by reducing as much as possible the resource consumption through (1) a distributed indexing technique that avoids multimedia transfer, (2) a flexible mechanism for selecting the indexing algorithms to be employed on each remote server, according to the multimedia content characteristics, its acquisition context and user queries history. © 2011 IEEE.

With increasing diversity and heterogeneity of content access devices and network technologies as well as user preferences, content delivery has evolved into a matter of ubiquitous service where production, delivery and access of content form major challenges for content provider, network operator and user respectively. Content adaptation has been widely acknowledged as one of the most important aspects for ubiquitous content delivery. Incorporating content adaptation into content delivery network has been intensively investigated in recent years, but still remains as a big challenge due to not only the technology heterogeneity and complexity, but also the deployment implication facing the different players in the content delivery chain, e. g. content provider, network operator, user, third-party service provider. this implication is caused by the lack of infrastructural support for content adaptation in traditional content delivery network. this paper presents the design of such an infrastructure, called Adaptation Management Framework (AMF). More importantly, this design targets its application in a distributed manner to allow content adaptation take place across the content delivery chain. A working cycle of content adaptation under the infrastructure is described, and performances evaluation and analysis are presented in terms of scalability.
