the aim of this study is to identify the optimal method of surface modification of ZnO nanoparticles in order to obtain a high deposition rate of the polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) functionalizing agent. thus, in order to identify the optimal route, the surface of ZnO nanoparticles were functionalized by 3 methods, ultrasonic, magnetic stirring and vacuum adsorption, followed by advanced powder characterization, FTIR, SEM, EDS, DSC-TG. the FTIR analysis recorded on the surface modified ZnO powder highlights the functional groups in the PDMS, regardless of the synthesis method, which confirms that the functionalization took place. However, based on the intensity of PDMS functional groups, it can be concluded that the highest deposition rate is obtained in the case of ultrasonography, followed by the magnetic stirring and vacuum adsorption method. this different deposition rate can be attributed to the fact that ultrasonication leads to ZnO particles being broken down into smaller particles, resulting in a higher contact surface with PDMS. the SEM image obtained on the commercial ZnO powder and the ZnO / PDMS powder, highlights their extremely varied morphology and demonstrates that the modification does not influence either the shape or size of the ZnO. EDS analysis confirms that functionalization took place due to the presence of the Si element alongside the other Zn and O major elements. the DSC-TG analysis obtained on the ZnO / PDMS powder indicated an organic mass loss, from the organosilane structure, of 5.51% in the range of 365-530 degrees C. the results obtained provide the premise that these functionalized ZnO nanoparticles in addition to antibacterial properties will improve compatibility / dispersibility in various polymeric matrices.

Disturbance and noise exerted to the systems are two challenging problems in both classical and modern control approaches due to their unknown nature. While there are different theories to tackle disturbance and noise problems, ℒ 1 adaptive control theory is a promising approach to guarantee the robust performance of the system. In this paper, ℒ 1 control theory with output feedback of the system is presented. then, an inverted pendulum system is considered to implement the ℒ 1 controller in the presence of the disturbance applied to the actuator of the pendulum. Finally, control parameters of the system are optimized with respect to the output and control effort of the system. Results of the simulation of the optimal-tuned ℒ 1 controller for the inverted pendulum system is presented and discussed.

Modern multiobjective algorithms can be computationally inefficient in producing good approximation sets for highly constrained many-objective problems. Such problems are common in real-world applications where decision-makers need to assess multiple conflicting objectives. Also, different instances of real-world problems often share similar fitness landscapes because key parts of the data are the same across these instances. We we propose a novel methodology that consists of solving one instance of a given problem scenario using computationally expensive multiobjective algorithms to obtain a good approximation set and then using Goal programming with efficient single-objective algorithms to solve other instances of the same problem scenario. We propose three goal-based objective functions and show that on a real-world home healthcare planning problem the methodology can produce improved results in a shorter computation time. An overview of the fault detection strategies, faults and failures related to Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) levels is provided. the recent research contributions to functional diagnostics of WSN were summarized. An adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system ANFIS for intelligence diagnostics of WSN is proposed. the solution of the task of functional diagnostics is realized by the expert system with a knowledge base in the form of a neuron-fuzzy network. Neural-fuzzy network has been applied to the sensor nodes. Employing proposed techniques in WSN showed that ANFIS algorithm enables to improve the efficiency and accuracy of sensor node diagnosis.

Wearable robotics bring the opportunity to augment human capability and performance, be it through prosthetics, exoskeletons, or supernumerary robotic limbs. the latter concept allows enhancing human performance and assisting them in daily tasks. An important research question is, however, whether the use of such devices can lead to their eventual cognitive embodiment, allowing the user to adapt to them and use them seamlessly as any other limb of their own. this paper describes the creation of a platform to investigate this. Our supernumerary robotic 3rd thumb was created to augment piano playing, allowing a pianist to press piano keys beyond their natural hand-span;thus leading to functional augmentation of their skills and the technical feasibility to play with 11 fingers. the robotic finger employs sensors, motors, and a human interfacing algorithm to control its movement in real-time. A proof of concept validation experiment has been conducted to show the effectiveness of the robotic finger in playing musical pieces on a grand piano, showing that naive users were able to use it for 11 finger play within a few hours.

Cloud Computing allowed the utilization of all computing resources and software as required through the web in a virtual computing environment [2, 3]. Different Application software and data are provided at the (virtual) server side to be used. GIS Cloud is the future of Web GIS, with capabilities of easy and fast: collecting, processing, analyzing, updating, rectifying, publishing geospatial data through the internet. It is a web-based-GIS Application to enable all users fast, easy informed decision-making at fair price. It provides the power of desktop GIS on a web-based platform at fair cost anywhere. It offers a JavaScript Application programming Interface (API) and a REST API, to provide GIS functionality into an application or website that can be hosted by GIS Cloud or by a third-party. In this work we are presenting a GIS-Cloud application in AL-Kamaliah region, small town of Amman suburbs to demonstrate its practicality and functionality.

Efficient utilization of multi-core computers with shared memory depends on many factors. In this article efficiency of multi-core computers with shared memory is investigated. All computer cores execute either parallel streams of a single program, developed in accordance with the OpenMP API, or independent programs. there are no interactions between streams and independent programs. Both parallel and non-parallel (single stream) applications share memory where conflicts may occur. Models for determining the acceleration coefficients of a multi-core computer, analytical expressions which reflect the dependence of the acceleration coefficients on the number of cores, the properties performed the programs, cores and shared memory parameters and formulas for determine recommended numbers of cores for parallel applications in accordance with the OpenMP API are suggested. the main reason for the decrease in performance of multi-core computers with shared memory when parallelizing applications in accordance with the OpenMP API is the overload of shared memory.

New methods for synthesis of active materials have been developed to improve capacity and cycle life performance of lithium-ion batteries. Past studies have focused on routes of development of materials and new processes, which might not be economical for large-scale production. In this regard, this study examines a widely employed carbothermal reduction technology for the synthesis of lithium-iron phosphate (LiFePO4/C) and investigates effects of process conditions during this synthesis on final battery performance. An experimental combined genetic programming approach is used to model the effects of crucial process conditions (sintering time, the carbon content, and the sintering temperature) on the discharge capacity of the assembled battery. Experiments are conducted to collect the discharge capacity data based on varying LiFePO4/C synthesis conditions, and genetic programming is employed to develop a suitable functional relationship between them. the results show that the battery discharge capacity is controlled significantly by adjusting sintering temperature and carbon content, while the effect of sintering time is found to be insignificant. Further, the interaction effect of the sintering time and carbon content is much more obvious than that of the sintering time and the sintering temperature. the findings from the study pave the way for the optimum design of the synthesis process of LiFePO4/C for a higher battery performance.

Worldwide efforts to accelerate energy transition require consumers acting like prosumers in energy markets. Demand side management is believed to facilitate the integration of high share of renewables into the electric power grid, and contributes to the reduction of CO2 emissions by reducing peak power load. Drinking Water Systems, by the presence of storage units and variable speed pumps, can address energy efficiency mechanisms such as Demand Response. In this paper, we use linear programming to optimize pump schedules in Drinking Water Systems while trading Demand Response in a spot power market during peak times. Uncertainties about water demands are taken into account in the mathematical model allowing to propose power reductions in the day-ahead spot power market, covering potential risks of real-time water demand forecasting inaccuracy.
