Avionics equipment failure prediction by conventional GM (Grey Model) may yield large forecasting errors. Combining GM (1, 1) model with genetic programming algorithm, a kind of GP-GM (1, 1) forecast model was established to minimize such errors. Forecasting sequence was calculated by means of GM (1, 1) model, then genetic programming algorithm was used to modify them further, and the degradation trend prediction of characteristic parameters of avionics equipment was realized. the validity of GP-GM (1, 1) prediction model was testified by tracking and forecasting the experiment data of avionics equipment in real environment.

this manuscript presents a method to program everyday manipulation tasks for a robot by human demonstration using primitive skills. the hand movement in the demonstrated task is recorded then segmented into sub-actions. Each sub-action is mapped to primitives skills of the robot. We proposed a list of necessary skills for a manipulator which are common to use in many everyday tasks. In order to adapt with the change of object's location, we applied Dynamic Movement Primitives model for regenerating movement which follows the demonstrated trajectory. In experiment, we considered the task 'dispensing water' from a water thermos pot performed by a robot arm to verify the proposed method. © 2017 IEEE.

Context: Software developers face complex, connected, and large software projects. the development of such systems involves design decisions that directly impact the quality of the software. For an early decision making, software developers can use model-based prediction approaches for (non-)functional quality properties. Unfortunately, the accuracy of these approaches is challenged by newly introduced hardware features like multiple cores within a single CPU (multicores) and their dependence on shared memory and other shared resources. Objectives: Our goal is to understand whether and how existing model-based performance prediction approaches face this challenge. We plan to use gained insights as foundation for enriching existing prediction approaches with capabilities to predict systems running on multicores. Methods: We perform a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) to identify current model-based prediction approaches in the context of multicores. Results: Our SLR covers the software engineering, embedded systems, High Performance Computing, and Software Performance Engineering domains for which we examined 34 sources in detail. We found various performance prediction approaches which tries to increase prediction accuracy for multicore systems by including shared memory designs to the prediction models. Conclusion: However, our results show that the memory designs models are only in an initial phase. Further research has to be done to improve cache, memory, and memory bandwidth model as well as to include auto tuner support.

Issues relating to racial unity seem to be present in many countries, whether overtly or covertly. It would be more difficult if the racial problems and tension actually occur among a race’s own ethnicity. For as long as the Malays, as the majority race of Malaysia, are not united, Malaysians would find it very difficult to achieve national unity as well. therefore, this study focused on social reality issues that played on the new media – YouTube. the new media becomes a battlefield for political parties to win the hearts and minds of the people through videos portraying many social reality issues, posted on YouTube. In order to identify the design criterion of videos, this study used the Evaluation Grid Method of Laddering (EGML) for classification of items and categories of social reality issues videos posted on YouTube that relate to Malaysian politics. the EGML technique explored the reason why a given object (video) is important and resulted in a full interpretation of each concept. Henceforth, six participants were involved in this experiment to determine their evaluative views of the videos. the process of laddering downwards assisted the researcher to classify the items and categories of the videos. the process based on features/contents of the videos, whereby the participants were required to explain in terms of the differences of the videos. this study therefore used the guideline from design criterion based on Racial Unity (Film Features) to identify the items and categories of the videos. Eventually, the study resulted in the YouTube videos’ classification of 9 items and 39 categories in session one and 6 items and 32 categories in session two, based on emotion. this classification usable as reference for stakeholders to understand the design elements that affect emotional values when viewing politically related YouTube videos. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2018.

Distribution Transformers (DTs) are key assets for any distribution network. their reliable and efficient operations is important for strong economic standing of the DISCOMs. Many DISCOMs follow DT energy audit, but that focuses on AT&C losses external to the DT. this paper focuses on Technical losses internal to the DTs and how best it can be reduced. DT technical losses usually gets measured only at the repair facility during the breakdown event. In old legacy DTs, these technical losses stand highly deviated from original manufacturing specs, adding to the financial losses of the DISCOMs. this paper presents a technical loss reduction technique called 'active repair' using winding compensation only, with no change to the core. Active repair was conducted on two Aluminum wound legacy DTs with high technical losses, one failed DT of 100 kVA and other functional DT of 200 kVA, with winding compensation carried out through copper winding replacement. Results demonstrated significant technical loss reduction to near manufacturing specs, with business viability to the DISCOMs. Active repair can be further developed as an easy replicable DT repair technique, and DISCOMs can selectively apply it to high technical losses legacy DTs that will yield shorter payback period. Existing DT repairers can be incentivized to undertake active repairs through performance tied improved service level agreements (SLAs) with further extension to provide integrated DT managed services for improved reliability and life cycle management.

the android mobile remote control smart car uses App Inventor as the mobile terminal development platform and Keil C as the single-chip computer terminal development platform. the mobile phone sends information to the Bluetooth module, and the bluetooth module sends the received information to the single chip microcomputer(SCM) through the serial port, and the SCM controls the car according to the information driven motor. By testing, the car can receive signals from the mobile phone and turn left, right, forward, backward and stop flexibly.

In recent years, engineering education has become one of the challenging issues in thailand education. By teaching and learning subjects independently, students are limited to subject-oriented problems, which are not in reality. To address these flaws, integrating knowledge across disciplines becomes significantly necessary. In the past years, STEM has been accepted as one of the effective strategies to bridge the difference in nature of each field to construct more practical projects and innovations. Moreover, the educational robot can be employed as a learning tool in that strategy since it not only provides challenging learning missions but also promotes computational thinking for the students. therefore, this research study proposed STEM learning activities on three-day workshop to lay out the foundation to the high-school science-and-technology students who are becoming the engineering students. the workshop comprises of eight phases to facilitate their learning inquiry process with hands-on experience; moreover, the activities were designed in consideration of promoting computational thinking with challenging learning missions. the findings of this study showed that the proposed workshop activities are beneficial for the students who outperformed on robotics with higher computational thinking; meanwhile, they could provide more relevant responses regarding the proposed learning activities.

Rule based energy management strategy for a series-parallel plug-in hybrid electric bus optimized by dynamic programming

An appropriate energy management strategy is able to further improve the fuel economy of PHEVs. the rule-based energy management algorithms are dominated in industry due to their fast computation and ease of establishment potentials, however, their performance differ a lot from improper setting of parameters and control actions. this paper employs the dynamic programming (DP) to locate the optimal actions for the engine in PHEVs, and more importantly, proposes a recalibration method to improve the performance of the rule-based energy management through the results calculated by DP algorithm. Eventually, an optimization-based rule development procedure is presented and further validated by hardware-in-loop (HIL) simulation experiments. the HIL simulation results show that, the improved rule-based energy management strategy reduces fuel consumption per 100 km from 25.46 L diesel to 22.80 L diesel. the main contribution of this study is to explore a novel way to calibrate the existed heuristic control strategy with the global optimization result through advanced intelligent algorithms. Development and application of a multi-stage CCUS source-sink matching model

To achieve the targets in the Paris Climate Change Agreement, carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) will be one of the critical carbon mitigation technologies. For China, the biggest carbon emitter with coal-dominated energy structure, CCUS is expected to play more and more important roles for carbon emissions reduction. this paper looks at a method for designing a pipeline network system for large-scale CO2 capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS) in China. On the basis of performing a moderately significant literature review of past papers and models dating back to the early 2000's, a updated multi-stage mixed integer programming (MIP) model for carbon source and sink matching (SSM) in ChinaCCUS DSS (Decision Support System) is developed. the Jing-Jin-Ji (Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei) region suffering from increasingly serious air pollution is chose as a case study to address the SSM issue with application of the updated model. the modeling results show that around 2200 km pipeline with investment of around $1.6 billion needed to be built to transport the cumulative sequestrated emissions of 1620 Mt CO2 in the planning period of 2020-2050. Compared to the single-stage programming, the multi-stage programming could result to better pipeline connectivity. (C) 2016 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
