Intelligent Reflecting Surface (IRS) technology has attracted significant attention as a novel approach to enhance wireless communication systems in recent years. By intelligently configuring its reflective elements, IRS can manipulate signal propagation, thereby improving desired signals while mitigating interference among users. In this paper, we study an IRS-aided multi-user wireless communication scenario, where the base station (BS) transmits various signals and each user receives their desired signals. To ensure fairness in wireless communications, the objective is to maximize the minimum user rates, considering the power constraint of the BS and the phase constraint of the IRS. Unlike prior works focusing mainly on optimizing BS and IRS beamforming, this study also addresses IRS location optimization. Since the problem is non-convex, it is decomposed into two subproblems and transformed into lower bound problems. Alternating optimization (AO) and successive convex approximation (SCA) methods are employed to solve these subproblems iteratively, aiming to converge the objective function within an acceptable range. Simulation results validate the convergence of the proposed algorithm and demonstrate performance improvements compared to benchmark schemes in wireless communication systems.

the prevalence of NP-Hard Combinatorial Optimisation Problems (COP) requires a continuous search for powerful heuristic techniques to efficiently solve problems of this nature, due to the exponentially growing CPU times faced by deterministic methods. this paper focuses on two COP, namely the Travelling Salesmen Problem (TSP) and the Quadratic Assignment Problem (QAP). In particular, the computational performance of classical optimisation techniques, Branch and Bound (BNB) and Simulated Annealing (SA), are compared to the Variational Quantum Eigensolver (VQE) algorithm. these algorithms are executed respectively on classical and Noisy Intermediate-Scale Quantum (NISQ) computers, in this case, a host of IBM quantum devices. the experimental results resemble and extend on previously reported results found in the literature. Furthermore, this research critically analyses, compares and comments on the performance of quantum computing techniques to that of classical techniques. the results highlight the current shortcomings of NISQ devices, as classical optimisation techniques significantly outperform the VQE algorithm when run on state of the art IBM Quantum devices.

Conventional Model Predictive Control (C-MPC) typically suffers from an unfixed switching frequency and requires significant computational power from the controller, which restricts its widespread industrial application. To overcome this limitation, this paper proposes a low-computational control strategy for achieving a fixed switching frequency in aT-type three-level inverter. In this strategy, the 27 vectors are initially grouped together, and the candidate vector group for optimized rolling is determined by evaluating the position of the reference voltage vector in space. Subsequently, the vectors are categorized into P-type vectors and N-type vectors based on their impact on the capacitance voltage of the DC side. By comparing the magnitude of the capacitance voltage and simultaneously balancing the neutral-point voltage of the DC side, the candidate vectors are further narrowed down. Importantly, the objective function no longer needs to consider neutral-point voltage balancing, thus simplifying the computational process. Lastly, the candidate vectors are evaluated, ranked according to the objective function, and assigned action times. through simulation and experimentation, it is demonstrated that this approach enables the T -type inverter to achieve high performance while minimizing computational load.

Recently, collaborative filtering (CF) algorithms have played an important role in recommendation systems. However, the traditional CF algorithms cannot make full use of information (e.g., users' preference, social relationship, and so on) implied in check-ins of users in the recommendation process. In order to address this issue, in this paper, a recommendation framework is proposed by exploiting historical user behavior, the check-in information and user social relationships to improve the precision of recommendation, as follows. First, user reputation can be obtained by iteratively calculating the correlation of historical ratings of the user and intrinsic qualities of items. Second, we employ user reputation and rating similarity in the basic social recommender model. Finally, we use the social connections among users to obtain the social influence of their friends. To evaluate the performance of our method, a series of experiments conducted on Epinions and Ciao data sets show that our approach performs better than several state-of-the-art methods on metrics of RMSE, precision rate, recall rate and F-Measure.

the concept of reconfigurable manufacturing has emerged in response to the need to adapt to the rapidly evolving market environment and meet the growing demands for personalization and customization in manufacturing. Reconfigurable Manufacturing Systems (RMS) are designed to combine the cost-efficiency features of rigid manufacturing systems with the agility to respond swiftly to market changes, similar to flexible manufacturing systems. Within the field of RMS research, process planning has consistently been recognized as a crucial aspect and a key technological focus. this paper addresses the process planning problem in reconfigurable manufacturing systems and proposes a multi-objective integer programming model. An improved squirrel search algorithm is also proposed to solve the problem. Firstly, the squirrel search algorithm is combined with the Pareto dominance theory to generate non-dominant solutions. Secondly, an adaptive predator presence probability strategy is proposed, which changes the predator probability from a fixed value to a decreasing value during the iteration process. this strategy aims to balance the global and local search of the algorithm. Finally, to enhance the algorithm's local search capabilities and prevent it from converging to local optima in the later stages, a random mutation strategy is employed. Additionally, the TOPSIS method is utilized to aid decision-makers in ranking and selecting the most optimal process plans. To validate the feasibility and practicality of the proposed model and new algorithm, numerical experiments were conducted. the results of the experiments demonstrate the superior performance of the algorithm presented in this paper.

An unique not-OR (NOR) flash memory cell using an asymmetric Schottky barrier (SB) was designed to increase programming speed and driving current. An asymmetric SB NOR flash memory cell was proposed on the basis of the fundamental structure of the conventional NOR flash memory cells with a length of 90nm. the programming speed and the driving current of the SB NOR flash memory cell with an asymmetric SB were simulated by using T-SUPREM4 and MEDICI. the simulation results showed that the heavily doped carriers existing in the titanium-disilicide Schottky drain can be used to increase programming speed of the SB NOR flash memory cell and that a decrease in the source/drain series resistance utilizing the silicide in the SB NOR flash memory cell help to increase driving current density.

this paper presents architectures and scheduling algorithms for the 2-D Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) and the Inverse Discrete Wavelet Transform (IDWT) using 9/7-tap filter banks based on the Non-expansive Symmetric Extension (NSE) scheme that reduces distortion at boundaries of the reconstructed image. the hardware has been implemented for image blocks of size 32/spl times/32 pixels, up to third level of transform, and cuts down the power consumption at the architecture level by incorporating three techniques, viz., Canonic Sign Digit (CSD) and common subexpression sharing technique, Gray code addressing mode and resource sharing. the implementation has been tested using 0.35 /spl mu/m (three metal) technology by simulation at functional, circuit and physical levels. the performance measures of implementation, viz., area, memory requirement, speed and power have been evaluated.

Aside from the necessary learning skills of logical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity, undergraduate students in the programming discipline must also be self-motivated because these abilities enable them to overcome obstacles and achieve success. In the digital learning era, a pedagogical approach emphasizing inquiry and collaborative approaches can enhance students' programming skills anywhere and anytime. As a result, this research aims to investigate the effects of collaborative learning on academic achievement and motivation by managing ubiquitous learning in computer courses at three universities in northern thailand using a collaborative inquiry-based approach. the learning environment allowed students to practice independently using the instructor-provided content and exercises. then, as part of group learning, students gave advice and shared knowledge until they found the best solution. Following class, the instructor discussed the merits of each group's responses with all students. Students were then asked to repeat the questions to ensure they completely understood the logical reasoning and problem-solving process. According to the findings, ubiquitous learning management based on collaborative inquiry-based approaches could help them learn more effectively, with higher learning achievement and motivation. the study's findings inspire further research into creating a collaborative digital learning environment in computer education, particularly from the standpoint of ubiquitous learning.

Random access is a wireless network access technique that can meet the transmission requirements of a massive number of Internet of things terminals under limited resource constraints. To address the needs of delay-sensitive applications, it is essential to study random access strategies from the perspective of information timeliness. Existing research often assumes that the information transmitted by terminals is independent of each other, neglecting the correlation between information in the design process of random access strategies. However, in scenarios such as video surveillance and sensor monitoring, adjacent terminal transmissions exhibit spatial correlation. To overcome this limitation, this paper proposes a random access strategy based on information timeliness and information correlation. Specifically, we establish information correlation between information sources and analyze the coupling variation of Age of Information (AoI) in multipoint transmission scenarios, deriving an expression for the average network AoI. Next, by jointly optimizing the random access probabilities of various terminals, we minimize the average network AoI. To address the non-convex and nonlinear optimization problem, we design an optimization algorithm based on Sequential Quadratic programming and propose an approach to obtain initial values for improved algorithm stability. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed method significantly reduces the average network AoI compared to random strategies that do not consider correlation.

Multiple selections, though heavily used in file managers and drawing editors, are virtually nonexistent in text editing. this paper describes how multiple selections can automate repetitive text editing. Selection guessing infers a multiple selection from positive and negative examples provided by the user. the multiple selection can then be used for inserting, deleting, copying, pasting, or other editing commands. Simultaneous editing uses two levels of inference, first inferring a group of records to be edited, then inferring multiple selections with exactly one selection in each record. Both techniques have been evaluated by user studies and shown to be fast and usable for novices. Simultaneous editing required only 1.26 examples per selection in the user study, approaching the ideal of 1-example PBD. Multiple selections bring many benefits, including better user feedback, fast, accurate inference, novel forms of intelligent assistance, and the ability to override system inferences with manual corrections.
