With the widespread availability of multi-core processors, running multiple diversified variants or several different versions of an application in parallel is becoming a viable approach for increasing the reliability and security of software systems. the key component of such N-version execution (NVX) systems is a runtime monitor that enables the execution of multiple versions in parallel. Unfortunately, existing monitors impose either a large performance overhead or rely on intrusive kernel-level changes. Moreover, none of the existing solutions scales well with the number of versions, since the runtime monitor acts as a performance bottleneck. In this paper, we introduce VARAN, an NVX framework that combines selective binary rewriting with a novel event-streaming architecture to significantly reduce performance overhead and scale well with the number of versions, without relying on intrusive kernel modifications. Our evaluation shows that VARAN can run NVX systems based on popular C10k network servers with only a modest performance overhead, and can be effectively used to increase software reliability using techniques such as transparent failover, live sanitization and multi-revision execution.

In the process of mechanical equipment condition monitoring, the sensors do not often collect independent source signals of vibration, acquisition is the mixture vibration signals of tested mechanical equipment and the neighbourhood, it brings certain difficulties to the mechanical equipment condition and fault monitoring. Aiming at this problem, it put forward an improved algorithm of fast independent component analysis (Fast ICA), mixed signal can be extracted into separations of acquisition. the algorithm based on maximum negentropy iteration establish the objective function, with the non gaussian signal as the yardstick, then, solve the target function. Finally, the method is verified by mechanical vibration simulation signals that it can effectively separate the mixed signals, separated results show that the algorithm has stability and accuracy, and provide an important guarantee for the mechanical fault diagnosis, practical it has practical significance.

A self-adaptive system uses runtime models to adapt its architecture to the changing requirements and contexts. However, there is no one-to-one mapping between the requirements in the problem space and the architectural elements in the solution space. Instead, one refined requirement may crosscut multiple architectural elements, and its realization involves complex behavioral or structural interactions manifested as architectural design decisions. In this paper we propose to combine two kinds of self-adaptations: requirements-driven self-adaptation, which captures requirements as goal models to reason about the best plan within the problem space, and architecture-based self-adaptation, which captures architectural design decisions as decision trees to search for the best design for the desired requirements within the contextualized solution space. Following these adaptations, component-based architecture models are reconfigured using incremental and generative model transformations. Compared with requirements-driven or architecture-based approaches, the case study using an online shopping benchmark shows promise that our approach can further improve the effectiveness of adaptation (e.g. system throughput in this case study) and offer more adaptation flexibility.

Reuse techniques are key for the industrial adoption of Model-Driven engineering (MDE). However, while reusability has been successfully applied to programming languages, its use is scarce in MDE and, in particular, in model transformations. In previous works, we developed an approach that enables the reuse of model transformations for different meta-models. this is achieved by defining reusable components that encapsulate a generic transformation template and expose an interface called concept declaring the structural requirements that any meta-model using the component should fulfil. Binding the concept to one of such meta-models induces an adaptation of the template, which becomes applicable to the meta-model. To facilitate reuse, concepts need to be concise, reflecting only the minimal set of requirements demanded by the transformation. In this paper, we automate the reverse engineering of existing transformations into reusable transformation components. To make a transformation reusable, we use the information obtained from its static analysis to derive a concept that is minimal with respect to the transformation and maximizes its reuse opportunities, and then evolve the transformation accordingly. the paper describes a prototype implementation and an evaluation using transformations from the ATL zoo. © 2014 Springer international Publishing Switzerland.

Two methods of Petri nets decomposition into State Machine components (SMCs) are shown in the paper. the first one bases on the well-known algorithm of place invariants (p-invariants) calculation. the second method applies hypergraph theory and computation of exact transversals. the aim of the paper is theoretical analysis of the effectiveness of presented methods. We show, that despite the high popularity, the achieved results generated by p-invariants are not always correct and spurious components ought to be eliminated. Furthermore, the effectiveness of the application of hypergraphs into Petri net decomposition is analysed.

One of the main contributions of the paper is that we introduce "performance as a service" as a key component for future cloud storage environments. this is achieved through demonstration of the design and implementation of a multi-tier cloud storage system (CACSS), and the illustration of a linear programming model that helps to predict future data access patterns for efficient data caching management. the proposed caching algorithm aims to leverage the cloud economy by incorporating both potential performance improvement and revenue-gain into the storage systems.
