With Gaussian Elimination as a representative family of numerical and symbolic algorithms, we use multi-stage programming, monads and Ocaml's advanced module system to demonstrate the complete elimination of the abstraction overhead while avoiding any inspection of the generated code. We parameterize our Gaussian Elimination code to a great extent (over domain, matrix representations, determinant tracking, pivoting policies, result types, etc). at no run-time cost. Because the resulting code is generated just right and not changed afterwards, we enjoy MetaOCaml's guaranty that the generated code is well-typed. We further demonstrate that various abstraction parameters (aspects) can be made orthogonal and compositional, even in the presence of name-generation for temporaries and other bindings and "interleaving" of aspects. We also show how to encode some domain-specific knowledge so that "clearly wrong" compositions can be statically rejected by the compiler when processing the generator rather than the generated code.

this paper proposes an architecture concept to the design of software, for embedded systems and cooperating embedded systems, aimed to simplify not only design but also reuse and reconfigurability. the concept is targeted at software for recurring signal processing and control tasks common in industrial embedded supervision and control applications. An important part of the architecture concept is that the design work is partitioned and described at two major levels. the first level is focused on definition of data structures and reentrant data mapping functions to be supported by a restricted use of an existing programming language. the second level, i.e. the system level, focuses on structural and behavioral concerns including: component encapsulation, connection of actions and components via ports. this level, also handling delays, triggers and actors, is supported by a system modeling language. the thus partitioned approach makes the different design and engineering concerns well separated which simplifies both analysis and verification of functional and time behavioral correctness, compared to if they are mixed and intertwined into each other. Another gain with the proposed architecture concept is that the number of operating system (OS) threads and associated overhead needed to share the processor or a set of processors in a distributed or multi-core case is minimized.

Portable and embedded devices form an increasingly large group of computers, often referred to as Ambient Intelligence (And). this new variety in computing platforms will cause a corresponding diversity in software/hardware platforms and other context factors. component-based middleware platforms offer a uniform environment for software, but they do not take away specific context differences, such as hardware resources, user identity/role and logical/physical location. Specialised component versions and/or configurations have to be made for each computing context if that computing context is to be used to its fill extent. this is because the fine differences between component versions cannot be separated into finer components with the current component models. Aspect-oriented programming and generative programming technologies can be used to provide the fine-grained modularity that is necessary. In addition, the diversity of component-based platforms themselves form an extra reason for different component versions. We propose using a con text-driven framework for the development of And components, which is based upon a gradual refinement mechanism. this refinement mechanism can cope with the course-grained differences between component models as well as the fine-grained differences between computing configurations.

this paper presents a method to estimate voltage profiles on source distribution system using Independent component Analysis (ICA) algorithm. the profiles are estimated for 24- hours with time interval of 1 minute. the objective of this research is to reduce loss by controlling source of voltage per-unit. When voltage source is controlled, the losses occur on the system is reduced drastically. Power System Simulation for engineering (PSSTME) Software and Python programming was used in the simulation of IEEE 69 test bus system, while ICA is programmed using MATLAB R2012b version. the losses of simulation results with different tap changer and voltage set are compared and discussed in this paper. © 2013 IEEE.

this paper focuses on the development an Integer programming (IP) model for the Deterministic Wave-based Same-day Pickup and Delivery Problem (D-WSDPD), where a vehicle is allowed to leave the depot at specific time periods, called waves. Moreover, each customer request comprises of a pair of services - namely pickup and delivery - not necessarily be completed in the same wave. If the request had been picked, it must be also be delivered by the end of the day. We explored how numbers of daily dispatch waves affect major service performance metrics, including total rewards from serving customer orders and the overall service level on 20 randomly generated instances. We found that, by increasing the numbers of daily dispatch waves, all service performance metrics could be potentially improved as expected, with greater numbers of dispatched waves. However, having too frequent daily dispatch waves would not significantly improve such metrics due to limited operational interval, i.e. planning horizon. In contrast, the computational times required grow exponentially;and, thence, cautious trade-offs between the desired service performance and operational costs must be made. While our mathematical formulation is only preliminary for the practical WSDPD, with high level of uncertainty, it could be regarded as a prelude to the development of efficient heuristics and policies that will be explored in the next steps.

Medical analysis is a key component of contemporary healthcare since it helps doctors diagnose patients accurately to plan and track their treatments. Accurate identification of brain tumors is essential for doctors to treat patients swiftly and efficiently. this research investigates a novel approach to overcome the constraints imposed by scarce and sensitive medical data, generating synthetic images of brain tumors using generative Adversarial Networks (GANs). the proposed method has the potential to enhance activities involving medical processing, which will aid in making diagnoses and formulating treatment plans. the preliminary findings demonstrate its potential relevance to a wider variety of medical processing tasks, demonstrating that this augmentation method yields significant benefits. © 2023 IEEE.

the MetaBorg usage pattern allows concrete syntax to be associated with application programmer interfaces (API's). Once a concrete syntax is defined, library writers use the Stratego language to write transformations from the concrete syntax to API data and calls in the host language. the result is a compile time translator from the combined host and domain languages to the host language. this translator is not programmable at compile time, and little or none of the infrastructure can be leveraged by a program at run *** limitations make the MetaBorg pattern difficult or impractical to use in interactive programming. One possibility for adding interactivity to language assimilation is the application of the MetaBorg pattern to Stratego/XT itself. Assimilating language tools into languages, especially dynamic languages, better serves incremental and interactive development. Furthermore, language tool assimilation allows experimentation with language extension at compiler-compile time, compile time, load time and run *** paper looks at language tool assimilation and makes three contributions. First, it introduces the domain-specific optimization use case as an additional problem that Stratego and related technology might solve. Second, it "partially evaluates" the MetaBorg pattern on the domain-specific languages used in Stratego/XT. third, and finally, it generalizes the result of the MetaBorg partial evaluation, identifying several applications and application strategies. Aspect-Oriented programming (AOP) promises the modularization of so-called crosscutting functionalities in large applications. Currently, almost all approaches to AOP provide means for the description of sequential aspects that are to be applied to a sequential base program. In particular, there is no formally-defined concurrent approach to AOP, with the result that coordination issues between aspects and base programs as well as between aspects cannot precisely be *** paper presents Concurrent Event-based AOP (CEAOP), which addresses this issue. Our contribution can be detailed as follows. First, we formally define a model for concurrent aspects which extends the sequential Event-based AOP approach. the definition is given as a translation into concurrent specifications using Finite Sequential Processes (FSP), thus enabling use of the Labelled Transition System Analyzer (LTSA) for formal property verification. Further, we show how to compose concurrent aspects using a set of general composition operators. Finally, we sketch a Java prototype implementation for concurrent aspects, which generates coordination specific code from the FSP model defining the concurrent AO application. Copyright © 2006 ACM.

Model-driven engineering (MDE) techniques are increasingly being used to address many of the development and operational lifecycle concerns of large-scale component-based systems. One such concern lacking significant research deals with the validation of quality-of-service (QoS) properties of component-based systems throughout their development lifecycle instead of waiting until system integration time, which is very late and can be detrimental to project schedules and costs. this paper describes our novel MDE-based solution to address this challenge. At the core of our solution approach are (1) a set of domain-specific modeling languages that allow us to mimic component "business logic," and (2) a generative programming framework that synthesizes empirical benchmarking codefor system emulation and continuous QoS evaluation.

Optimal levels of preventive maintenance performed on any system ensures cost-effective and reliable operation of the system. In this paper a component with deterioration and random failure is modeled using Markov processes while incorporating the concept of minor and major preventive maintenance. the optimal mean times to preventive maintenance (both minor and major) of the component is determined by maximizing its availability with respect to mean time to preventive maintenance. Mathematical optimization programs Maple 7 and Lingo 7 are used to find the optimal solution, which is illustrated using a numerical example. Further, an optimal maintenance policy is obtained using Markov Decision Processes (MDPs). Linear programming (LP) is utilized to implement the MDP problem.
