there is only that much space in the CS curriculum, and there are always new subjects that should be accommodated by the curriculum. For instance, in our community, we would want all graduates to leave university with a modest background in technical spaces, software languages, and meta-programming;also, with conceptually informed and reasonably timeless skills to efficiently master related programming techniques and technologies. In reality, the curricula of few CS departments meet this expectation. In this talk, I will discuss such curricula-related expectations of our community and the suboptimal situation at CS departments-as I perceive them. More importantly, I will allude to a revision of the CS curriculum that could optimize matters and may stand a chance for mid-term adoption.

Microtrips are the key in driving cycle, and the base for constructing a driving cycle. For the construction of a modal driving cycle, the study firstly used principal component analysis to reduce the dimensions of the index data of microtrips, then a multi-objective optimization model was established with the goal of minimizing the deviation between the feature of the vehicle modal driving cycle and the actual vehicle operating feature. the non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm-II (NSGA-II) was designed to save the optimization model. Based on the correlation test of actual data, the designed method can obtain highly representative solutions.

With the widespread availability of multi-core processors, running multiple diversified variants or several different versions of an application in parallel is becoming a viable approach for increasing the reliability and security of software systems. the key component of such N-version execution (NVX) systems is a runtime monitor that enables the execution of multiple versions in parallel. Unfortunately, existing monitors impose either a large performance overhead or rely on intrusive kernel-level changes. Moreover, none of the existing solutions scales well with the number of versions, since the runtime monitor acts as a performance bottleneck. In this paper, we introduce VARAN, an NVX framework that combines selective binary rewriting with a novel event-streaming architecture to significantly reduce performance overhead and scale well with the number of versions, without relying on intrusive kernel modifications. Our evaluation shows that VARAN can run NVX systems based on popular C10k network servers with only a modest performance overhead, and can be effectively used to increase software reliability using techniques such as transparent failover, live sanitization and multi-revision execution.

RGB color detection is a fundamental component of computer vision with a wide range of applications, including image processing, object recognition, industrial automation, and design. this article provides a comprehensive overview of RGB color detection in Python, a popular and versatile programming language, with the aim of accurately identifying and analysing colors in digital images or video streams in a real-time context. this approach uses Python’s powerful libraries and packages, like OpenCV or NumPy, to quickly and easily access and process image data. It uses the RGB color space to represent and detect colors. the process includes getting the image, setting the color threshold, and segmenting the objects to identify and track specific colors in the image or *** experimental results show how powerful and fast the RGB color detection system is. It’s really good at picking up pre-defined colors in different lighting conditions and different color palettes. It’s really useful for tracking objects, recognizing gestures, and sorting colors, so it’s great for research and industry. this research is not only useful for computer vision, but it’s also a great resource for Python developers and researchers who want to use RGB color detection in their projects. It’s a great way to explore and come up with new ideas for color-based apps, and it shows how important color detection is in modern tech and automation. © the Institution of engineering & Technology 2023.

this paper investigates the employment of a Genetic Algorithm to optimally configure the parameters of a neural network architecture. Specifically, the issue of optimising the input connectivity or "connectivity map" for a class of weightless artificial neural networks is investigated by employing a genetic algorithm to intelligently 'search' the significantly large problem space, thereby reducing the potential for poor results based solely on a bad network layer group. this study takes as its example the mapping of independently produced solutions to programming exercises from a diverse range of specifications to the specification from which the implementation was derived. An important component of this technique lies in the crossover and mutation algorithms within the genetic algorithm, which have been specifically designed for this system. the results show significant promise for what is a novel and challenging problem domain for artificial neural systems.

Model-driven engineering (MDE) techniques are increasingly being used to address many of the development and operational lifecycle concerns of large-scale component-based systems. One such concern lacking significant research deals with the validation of quality-of-service (QoS) properties of component-based systems throughout their development lifecycle instead of waiting until system integration time, which is very late and can be detrimental to project schedules and costs. this paper describes our novel MDE-based solution to address this challenge. At the core of our solution approach are (1) a set of domain-specific modeling languages that allow us to mimic component "business logic," and (2) a generative programming framework that synthesizes empirical benchmarking code for system emulation and continuous QoS evaluation

A new graphical simulation package, which is capable of interoperability with other extensive programs, is proposed. A built-in LISP interpreter based on COMMON LISP allows a user to model and manipulate the robot while the result is displayed on a three-dimension graphical display. Other programming languages that are compatible with the component object model (COM) interface can also be applied to the modeling and simulation. the simulation package provides many useful features such as collision detection, inverse kinematics, matrix transformation operations, and several graphical user interfaces. the simulation objects are built based on a triangle strip model to form primitive objects such as a box, cone, sphere, etc. these primitive objects are combined to construct the robot that may contain several serial or parallel links so that many possible types of robots can be modeled.

Context-aware computing refers to a computing paradigm in which the behavior of individual components is determined by the circumstances in which they find themselves to an extent that greatly exceeds the typical system/environment interaction pattern common to most modern computing. the environment has an exceedingly powerful impact on a particular application component either because the latter needs to adapt in response to changing external conditions or because it relies on resources whose availability is subject to continuous change. In this paper we seek to develop a systematic understanding of the quintessential nature of context-aware computing by constructing a formal model and notation for expressing context-aware computations. We start with the basic premise that, in its most extreme form, context should be made manifest in a manner that is highly local in appearance and decoupled in fact. Furthermore, we assume a notion of context that is relative to the needs of each individual component, and we expect context-awareness to be maintained in a totally transparent manner with minimal programming effort. We construct the model from first principles, seek to root our decisions in these formative assumptions, and make every effort to preserve minimality of concepts and elegance of notation. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2004.
