Spatial puzzles are interesting domains to investigate problem solving, since the reasoning processes involved in reasoning about spatial knowledge is one of the essential items for an agent to interact in the human environment. With this in mind, the goal of this work is to investigate the knowledge representation and reasoning process related to the solution of a spatial puzzle, the Fisherman's Folly, composed of flexible string, rigid objects and holes. To achieve this goal, the present paper uses heuristics (obtained after solving a relaxed version of the puzzle) to accelerate the learning process, while applying a method that combines Answer Set programming (ASP) with Reinforcement learning (RL), the oASP(MDP) algorithm, to find a solution to the puzzle. ASP is the logic language chosen to build the set of states and actions of a Markov Decision Process (MDP) representing the domain, where RL is used to learn the optimal policy of the problem.

Product and process quality is playing an increasingly important role in the competitive success of manufacturing companies. To ensure a high quality level of the produced parts, the appropriate selection of parameters in manufacturing processes plays in important role. Traditional approaches for parameter setting rely on rule-based schemes, expertise and domain knowledge of highly skilled workers or trial and error. automated and real-time adjustment of critical process parameters, based on the individual properties of a part and its previous production conditions, have the potential to reduce scrap and increase the quality. Different machine learning methods can be applied for generating parameter estimation models based on experimental data. In this paper, we present a comparison of linear and symbolic regression methods for an adaptive parameter setting approach. Based on comprehensive real-world data, collected in a long-term study, multiple models are generated, evaluated and compared with regard to their applicability in the studied approach for parameter setting in manufacturing processes.

Ancillary software tools are developed for the analysis and response quantification of structural systems in a systematic and automated fashion. the open application programming interface (OAPI) of the structural analysis software SAP2000 is exploited for this purpose and a procedure is presented for the analysis of linear systems in conjunction with MATLAB, featuring model updating, analysis execution and extraction of the results. this is facilitated by the development of ancillary functions that complement and extend existing capabilities of the OAPI. Standalone solvers are next presented for the dynamic response evaluation of bilinear hysteretic, rigid-plastic, and rocking oscillators with arbitrary excitation force. the dynamical systems considered, are indicative of distinct nonlinear behaviour and representative of a wide spectrum of structures of engineering interest. the features at the current development stage are finally showcased on the response-surface-based reliability analysis of a truss structure and the response quantification of stochastically driven nonlinear secondary oscillators. the ancillary tools developed allow convenient simplifications in the modelling and analysis process, error tractability, and can assist learning on the subject of structural dynamics. they may find application in parametric and stochastic analysis and form the basis for the development of additional modules. © 2019 the authors.

In some colleges and universities, programming has become one of the compulsory subjects for undergraduates. However, the programming language has strict logic and grammar, which has an impact on learners' engagement, thereby affecting the learning effect. In this study, 100 freshmen who enrolled the programming design courses at a university in Beijing were selected as the research object, and the influencing factors of programming learning engagement were studied from the perspective of self-regulation. the study found that there were significant differences in motivational regulation between different genders, different professional categories, and whether they have studied programming;there was a significant positive correlation between motivational regulation, task value and programming learning engagement. Regression analysis showed that motivational regulation and task value had a good positive predictive effect on learning engagement.

Flight maneuvers can generate nonlinear and unsteady aerodynamic loading. Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) and Adaptive Neuro Fuzzy logic Inference System (ANFIS) are developed to model and predict aerodynamics coefficient under different values for angle of attack. the system is developed to model the unsteady aerodynamic normal force and the pitch moment coefficients. Based on the extensive analysis of the proposed identification methods, the artificial intelligence models showed low mean square errors in modeling and prediction results.

As the modern society utilizes various devices based on the Information, Communication Technology (ICT), the importance of the computer program has been increased. As the needs of the education of engineering increases, many researchers studied the pedagogy of the engineering education and the learning contents development. In general, the education of the programming language accompanies with the syntax learning and logic developments. the block-based programming language helps to build the logic of the students. therefore, Block-based programming languages are used in the entry course to the engineering departments. However, the block-based learning languages are limited to develop conventional applications. the application of the block-based programming language requires the particular middleware to execute, and usually, the application cannot utilize the functionalities of the hardware. therefore, students should learn the high-level programming language regardless of the block-based programming language to develop the ICT services. Unlike other pedagogy, this paper introduces the education contents and programming environment with high-level programming. Notably, this paper proposes the hybrid approaches to help students to build their programming logic and programming syntax.

this paper presents an energy and water management strategy in an autonomous multisource (photovoltaic, wind, battery) system powering hydraulic (pump and water tank) and electrical loads. the proposed strategy is based on the pump power modulation. the fuzzy logic is used to define the pump's rate power. Afterwards, a linear programing algorithm decides about the connexion status of the sources and electrical loads. the targeted goal is to cover the load needs and to efficiently use the battery. the elaborated strategy performances are evaluated by caseworks, using a load profile, a water consumption profileand real meteorological data of Gandon site in Senegal. the results show that the loads and the needs in water are covered at a 100%. Energy sources production presents an excess of 18%.the water level in the tank is always maintained above the defined critical threshold. Beyond the satisfactory water threshold in the tank, the battery is the main storage device.

Disciplines devoted to teaching programming are present in all courses in the area of information technology and traditionally they are part of the basic structure of these courses. For this reason the discipline of programming logic has been the gateway for information technology students. these disciplines have presented a high rate of students failures because it requires the students to have a high level of abstraction associated with systematized reasoning. the main objective of this article is to present an interactive environment that is seamlessly inserted in a e-course didactic material in order to expand the offer of effective learning automated mediators. this feature turns the teaching material into an interactive tool, which is more attractive to students and likely to help them in succeeding in these programming courses. the method for real time high quality video traffic management based on the fuzzy triangular numbers is proposed. Four types of high quality video traffic are investigated. the mathematical model for traffic simulation and prediction with differential equations is created. Solution is obtained using Ateb-functions. the triangular fuzzy numbers matrix based on prediction results is constructed. the matrix is used for optimal control and management in telecommunication network with quality of service criteria. Also influence of traffic self-similarity is discussed.
