It has become increasingly common to see that supercomputing applications harness the massive parallelism of graphics cards to speed up computations. In this study, an analysis concerning to the time necessity for four different implementations of parallel matrix multiplication is presented. the execution time of parallel matrix multiplications in Compute Unified Device Architecture (CUDA) can be increased to about 10 times than Matlab implementation, 100 times than Java thread, 300 times than C++ by using duo core Central Processing Unit (CPU) and 600 times than C++ by using single core CPU respectively by our method, as compared with using the fastest tools of GPU-only case or CPU-only case. the goal of this study is to show how to offload parallel computations to the graphics card, when it is necessary, and to give some idea of how to think about code running in the massively parallel environment.

the long lifecycles of many scientific applications tend to surpass multiple generations of Grid technologies opening an increasing gap developers need to bridge. Automatic adaptation and migration of software to newer environments remains therefore as interesting research question. Most existing state-of-the-art solutions are Grid middleware services that execute programs based on provided descriptions forcing clients to use a generic and non-problem-centric interface. this short paper outlines the Otho Toolkit for synthesis of Grid application wrapper services based on specifications of scientific legacy programs. the generated output are service source codes that are either automatically built and packaged into a ready-to-deploy services or taken by developers for manual refinement. the services are customised and tailor-made for a specific application, service hosting environment and computational infrastructure. To increase their benefit they can be enhanced with supplemental functionality such as security credential management or filestaging. We applied the Otho Toolkit recursively to itself to synthesise a sophisticated Factory service that creates application-specific Grid services on-demand.

With the rapid development and popularization of CFD technology, requirements on data amount and computing speed have also increased a lot. the computing ability of single CPU is unable to meet the requirement. therefore, iteration and parallel computation are the most important methods for CFD problems with large grid scales. this paper introduces the most popular iteration methods, classical iteration methods and their parallel computation strategies. On the basis of it, the parallel computing simulation environment is also constructed. It comprehensively applies symmetric multi-processing and distributed technologies and Windows XP 64 bit system. Research on CFD has focus on the parallel computation, which can meet the practical demand for computer capacity and computing time.

China's high-speed railway construction is making remarkable achievements. the increasing EMUs are approaching the overhaul cycle, which has brought great pressure to the existing 7 overhaul bases. With the increasing expansion of high-speed rail network, it is of significance to reasonably arrange the maintenance plan of EMU overhaul base under the joint scheduling mode between multiple EMUs. Aiming at improving the maintenance throughput and the utilization rate of key equipment, the current overhaul bases are adopting the parallel maintenance mode of multiple EMUs. To optimize the repair process of multiple parallel mode, this paper constructed an optimization model with the goal of minimizing the invalid maintenance fragment time of key equipment, under the dual constraints of the BOM of EMU parts to be repaired and the topology of maintenance process. In view of the nonlinearity of the model, the topology diagram of cooperative advanced repair of multiple EMUs was constructed, and then the max-min ant colony algorithm was designed to optimize the model, so as to obtain the optimal solution of the model. the model and algorithms were validated by an actual problem of the overhaul (Level 3) process of multiple EMUs. © 2021 IEEE.

Floorplanning is an important problem in Very Large-Scale Integrated-circuit (VLSI) design automation as it determines the performance, size, yield and reliability of VLSI chips. From the computational point of view, floorplan area minimization is an NP-hard problem. this paper presents a parallel genetic algorithm (GA) for floorplan area optimization. the parallel GA is based an island model with an asynchronous migration mechanism, and is implemented using Web services and multithreading technologies. the parallel GA is compared with a sequential GA that the parallel GA is based on. Experimental results show that the parallel GA can produce better results than the sequential GA when they use the same amount of computing resources. In addition, since the number of islands and migration interval are two important parameters that directly affect the performance of island-based parallel GAs, the impact of the two parameters on the performance of the parallel GA are empirically studied in this paper

In the big data world, recommendation system is becoming growingly popular. In this work Apache Spark is used to demonstrate an efficient parallel implementation of a new hybrid algorithm for User Oriented Collaborative Filtering method. Dimensionality reduction techniques like Alternating Least Square and Clustering techniques like K-Means are used in order to overcome the limitations of Collaborative Filtering such as data Sparsity and Scalability. We also tried to alleviate the cold start problem of Collaborative Filtering by correlating the users to products through features (tags). (C) 2016 the Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V.

this paper presents JOIN, a Java-based software platform to construct massively parallel grids capable of executing large parallel applications. the system is designed to be scalable by allowing computers in the grid to be separated in independent sets (called groups) which are managed independently and collaborate using a logical interconnection topology. JoiN provides advanced fault tolerance capabilities that allow it to withstand failures both in computers executing parallel tasks and in computers managing the groups. the parallel applications executing in the system are formally specified using a rigorously defined application model. JoiN uses a dynamic, flexible scheduling algorithm that adapts to changes in resource availability and replicates parallel tasks for fault tolerance. the platform provides an authentication/access control mechanism based on roles which is embedded in the inner parts of the system. the software architecture is based on the concept of services, which are independent pieces of software that can be combined in several ways, providing the flexibility needed to adapt to particular environments. JoiN has been successfully used to implement and execute several parallel applications, such as DNA sequencing, Monte Carlo simulations and a version of the Traveling Salesman Problem. With the rapid development of network technologies, many applications require transferring data faster in a wide area environment such as Grid and the data possibly passes through a wireless network or a lossy network until they reach the destination. the static parallel data transfer scheme such as GridFTP, or the dynamic parallel data transfer scheme such as GridFTP-APT (Automatic Parameter Tuning) increase the bandwidth utilization, and aggregates higher throughput by creating multiple TCP connections between two-endpoints. However, both schemes do not consider the packet loss, which may degrade the throughputs of applications in a lossy network. this paper proposes a dynamic parallel data transfer scheme for a lossy network. When a packet loss is detected, the proposed scheme stores the records before the packet loss occurs. When the packet loss is relieved, it continues with the stored records, and ignores the records during the packet loss. We compare the performance of the proposed scheme with that of GridFTP-APT and show that the proposed scheme outperforms the GridFTP-APT in a lossy network. © 2012 AICIT.
