Astronomy is one of the sciences that attracts a large number of people, because of the celestial bodies and phenomena that can be observed, such as the moon, planets, constellations and the sun during the day. Telescopes, the main observation tool employed for astronomical observation, are often not very accessible for the majority of the population, due to their cost. this problem has been addressed through the design of low-cost three-dimensional printed telescopes or the use of digital cameras and cell phones with filters suitable for this purpose. this work describes the components and building of an automatized light tracker that can be coupled to a digital camera, protected by a white light filter, to emulate a low-cost solar telescope. the resulting device can also be operated manually, serving as a teaching tool for astronomy that illustrates how mechatronics and programming can be employed for scientific outreach. Aided by a digital camera, the robotic solar tracker was used by students to observe and record the 2019's Mercury transit. © 2020 Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Peak Ground Velocity (PGV) is one of the most important ground motion parameters that has been widely used as a damage potential indicator, as well as in seismic design of structures and assessment of buried pipelines and liquefaction potential analysis. therefore, estimating a precise value for this parameter is of great importance. In this paper, Genetic programming (GP), a well-known artificial Intelligence method is utilized to develop an attenuation relationship for PGV based on the strong ground motion database released by Pacific Earthquake engineering Research center (PEER). Different PGV attenuation relationships are proposed for strike-slip, normal, and reverse faulting mechanisms as functions of earthquake magnitude, source to site distance, and local site geotechnical condition. the values of coefficient of determination, root mean square error and mean absolute error are calculated for the developed PGV attenuation relationships and reveal the accuracy of proposed model. Results of the parametric study demonstrate that PGV is higher for larger earthquake magnitudes while it is lower for sites which are located farther from the source and have lower shear wave velocities. © 2019 Associazione Geotecnica Italiana, Rome, Italy.

the traditional empirical tuning method of Linear Active Disturbance Rejection Control (LADRC) parameters is obtained without considering the actuator rate limit. Once the actuator rate is limited, then the input and output signals of the actuator cannot be synchronized. Considering that there is no efficient strategy for tuning LADRC parameters when the actuator rate is limited. And the parameters tuning method of LADRC is complex and difficult. Taking the traditional LADRC parameter tuning value as the benchmark and combining with the Pigeon Inspired Optimization (PIO) algorithm, a LADRC parameter tuning method is proposed by constructing the quadratic objective function and changing the weight factor of the control increment. the simulation results show that the LADRC parameters optimization method based on PIO can keep the input and output signals of the actuator synchronized.

In recent years, the continuous rise of social networks has promoted the research of maximizing influence. therefore, it is more and more important to mine a group of users with the largest influence range in social network, which is also of great significance for the promotion of some products. To solve the above problems, this paper studies the influence maximization in microblog social network, and proves that the problem is NP hard, and the objective function of the problem satisfies monotonicity and submodule. An effective algorithm is proposed to solve this problem. the algorithm fully considers the nature of microblog social network and microblog users, and measures the influence of users themselves with activity, communication power and coverage. Based on the independent cascade model, a communication model is designed according to the influence of users and the interaction times between users. through the experiment on the real microblog data set, it is proved that the algorithm has good performance in the propagation range and operation efficiency, and the propagation effect is more in line with the reality.

Microgrids bring in various benefits to power systems such as improvement in reliability, security, efficiency and cost reduction. they are also capable of integrating Demand Response (DR). therefore, precise modeling of DR is an important issue. In this paper, a composite DR model, based on price elasticity of demand and customer benefit function, is employed in the microgrid energy management. this model helps with more realistic and accurate modeling of DR by considering different groups of customers having different load profiles and energy use habituates. Regarding the energy management, two-stage stochastic programming is used for modeling the optimization problem. Various distributed energy resources along with uncertainties are also taken into account. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed method helps with more accurate modeling of DR. It is also shown that the implementation of Time of Use (TOU) program resulted in about 10% decrease in peak demand, around 3% reduction in energy consumption and about 5% decrease in the total operational cost of the microgrid. © 2019 IEEE.

Under the traditional machine learning that optimizes overall accuracy, the accuracy of a model for similar classes tends to be lower than for other classes. In this paper, we propose a method that can improve the accuracy of such problematic similar classes by adopting the concept of slices. the proposed method can improve the accuracy of slices effectively without degrading the overall accuracy.

the authors present an adaptive dynamic programming-based (ADP-based) scheme to solve the tracking control problems of flexible joint manipulator, which can be transformed to solve the Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman (HJB) equation. For the nominal error system, a critic neural network is established to approximate the value function and an online learning algorithm is proposed to update the weight of the critic neural network. the weight update of the critic neural network occurs at the same time as the system is running. the dynamics of the weight estimation error and the tracking error are proven to be uniformly ultimately bounded via Lyapunov method. Finally, a numerical example is given to illustrate the performance of the present method.

Computer programming is one of the basic abilities developed in computing science students, but it is important to note that programs are the product of generating code from software design. this work presents the results of examining the design products of students in different stages of their degree program. We have replicated some experiments reported in the literature but a difference between these works and ours is that we analyze the design work of students at all levels of their degree programs. We find results that indicate that the design abilities do not necessarily show a continuous improvement during the passage of time in their studies and we explore possible causes of this and outline future research in this line of investigation.

Various state-of-the-art automated reasoning (AR) tools are widely used as backend tools in research of knowledge representation and reasoning as well as in industrial applications. In testing and verification, those tools often run continuously or nightly. In this work, we present an approach to reduce the runtime of AR tools by 10% on average and up to 20% for long running tasks. Our improvement addresses the high memory usage that comes with the data structures used in AR tools, which are based on conflict driven no-good learning. We establish a general way to enable faster memory access by using the memory cache line of modern hardware more effectively. therefore, we extend the standard C library (glibc) by dynamically allowing to use a memory management feature called huge pages. Huge pages allow to reduce the overhead that is required to translate memory addresses between the virtual memory of the operating system and the physical memory of the hardware. In that way, we can reduce runtime, which in turn decreases costs of running AR tools and applications with similar memory access patterns by linking the tool against this new glibc library when compiling it. In every day industrial applications, runtime savings allow to include more detailed verification tasks, getting better results of any-time optimization algorithms with a bound execution time, and save energy during nightly software builds. To back up the claimed speed-up, we present experimental results for tools that are commonly used in the AR community, including the domains ASP, hardware and software BMC, MaxSAT, and SAT. © 2020, Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

Gastritis is a condition when the stomach lining becomes irritated, inflamed or eroded. Based on the period of development of symptoms, the gastritis is divided into two, namely acute (developing quickly and suddenly) and chronic (developing slowly). Symptoms that commonly appear are pain, discomfort in the upper abdomen, nausea, vomiting, and indigestion. If the condition is considered erosive gastritis, the patient will experience black stools or vomit blood. Most people do not understand the types of diseases that people suffer. this is because people do not have the existing knowledge about a disease. People who suffer from disease generally rely on doctors to deal with diseases that people suffer. But for people who are less costly and also difficult to go to hospitals far from their homes, this is a big obstacle. therefore researchers recommend a system that can help people to be able to diagnose gastritis. the system that the researcher uses is an expert system. However, to diagnose gastritis, a method is needed that can be applied to expert systems. therefore, researchers propose the Certainty Factor method. By using Visual Basic 2010 programming language and storage using SQL Server 2008 databases, it can be created an application Expert System to Diagnose Gastritis Disease Using Certainty Factor Method. © 2019 IEEE.
