this paper deals with the numerical solution of financial applications, more specifically the computation of American and European options derivatives modelled by boundary values problems. In such applications we have to solve large-scale algebraic linear systems. We concentrate on synchronous and asynchronous parallel iterative algorithms carried out on peer-to-peer networks. the properties of the operators arising in the discretized problem ensure the convergence of the parallel iterative synchronous and asynchronous algorithms. Computational experiments performed on peer-to-peer networks are presented and analyzed. © 2011 IEEE.

this paper describes the architecture of a reconfigurable Complex Programmable Logic Device (CPLD) designed for structured ASIC technology. the proposed architecture adds the feature of reconfiguration to structured ASIC with both static and dynamic reconfiguration options. Static reconfiguration is realized using the possibility to reprogram the SRAM based look-up tables at power-up while dynamic reconfiguration uses embedded memory to implement a multi-context device. Dynamic reconfiguration is realized by storing sixteen CPLD configurations in on-chip memory. this inactive on-chip memory is distributed around the chip allowing single cycle configuration change and it can be accessed either from offchip or from internal logic. Implementation results on structured ASIC validated the solution from both area and timing perspective.

the present paper puts forward a proposal for computer music (CM) composition system on the Web. Setting off from the CM composition paradigm used so far and on the basis of the current computer technology shift into cloud computing, a new paradigm is open for the CM composition domain. An experience of computer music cloud (CMC) is described: the whole music system is split into several web services sharing an unique music representation. MusicJSON is proposed as the interchangeable music data format based on the solid and flexible EvMusic representation. A web browser-based graphic environment is developed as the user interface for the Computer Music Cloud as music web applications.

the continuing launch of various multi-core processors backs parallel computing for gaining higher performance;however, it also exerts pressures on software developers concerning how to make full use of the multiplicity of resources to get the required benefits due to high coupling of parallel programs to specified hardware. In this paper, we propose SVP, a micro-threading based concurrency model, as an alternative to efficiently program on and manage multi-core, even many-core systems. SVP isolates programming from executing resources so that programs are compiled once and execute regardless of actual cores available, not only numbers, but also properties to achieve scalable speedup. Such lower coupling, better flexibility and portability in parallel applications are highly appreciated. To investigate SVP, tool chains and a fully functional software simulator of an SVP many-core chip have been developed for test and verification. Using this infrastructure, we are able to show how much we can gain from SVP and how speedup is scaled by running the same binary code of Game of Life on a scalable many-core platform. © 2011 IEEE.

Within the framework of the acoowee-project we want to improve the programming of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) by using and adapting the expressiveness of UML2 Activity Diagrams (UADs) to specify the behavior of the WSN. We expect that our proposal can simplify the way of programming the functional behavior of a WSN and so bring the programming closer to domain experts. We develop the acoowee-framework for Sun SPOTs (spots). the user of the acoowee-framework visually programs UADs and saves them. Afterwards, these UADs are converted into scripts and deployed to the spots e. g. over the air. Finally, the interpreter that runs on the spots executes the scripts. In this demo we present the usage of the acoowee-framework by means of a network consisting of 5 spots and a host with a connected base station. We present all steps listed above. Additionally, we show a rule based manipulation of already deployed scripts and give the attendees the possibilities to try this kind of programming by themselves.

With increasing complexity of sensor network applications, the trade-off between node-local processing and transmission of data to a central node for handling becomes more significant. For distributed structural health monitoring applications (SHM), we consider different realization choices of the underlying wireless sensor network and implement a key part of the application (a high-order filter) on the novel HaLoMote architecture, a reconfigurable wireless sensor node (rWSN) with FPCA-based processing capability. We compare different tool flows supporting development of algorithms above the RTL regarding to achievable area and energy efficiency and outline the advantage of rWSN over traditional MCU- and DSP-based sensor systems in this scenario.

We present a distributed algorithm for computing a combined solution to three problems in sensor networks: localization, clustering, and sensor suspension. Assuming that initially only a rough approximation of the sensor positions is known, we show how one can use sensor measurements to refine the set of possible sensor locations, to group the sensors into clusters with linearly correlated measurements, and to decide which sensors may suspend transmission without jeopardizing the consistency of the collected data. Our algorithm applies the "Occam's razor principle" by computing a "simplest" explanation for the data gathered from the network. We also present centralized algorithms, as well as efficient heuristics.

Given a set of sensor nodes V where each node wants to broadcast a message to all its neighbors that are within a certain broadcasting range, the local broadcasting problem is to schedule all these requests in as few timeslots as possible. In this paper, assuming the more realistic physical interference model and no knowledge of the topology, we present three distributed local broadcasting algorithms where the first one is for the asynchronized model and the other two are for the synchronized model. Under the asynchronized model, nodes may join the execution of the protocol at any time and do not have access to a global clock, for which we give a distributed randomized algorithm with approximation ratio O(log(2) n). this improves the state-of-the-art result given in [14] by a logarithmic factor. For the synchronized model where communications among nodes are synchronous and nodes can perform physical carrier sensing, we propose two distributed deterministic local broadcasting algorithms for synchronous and asynchronous node wakeups, respectively. Both algorithms have approximation ratio O(log n).

Recent advances in wireless/mobile communication and body worn sensors, together with ambient intelligence and seamless integrated pervasive technology have paved the way for applications operating based on social signals, i.e., sensing and processing of group behavior, interpersonal relationships, or emotions. thinking in large, it should be apparent that modeling social systems allowing to study crowd behavior emerging from individual entities' (agents') condition and/or characteristics is, in fact, a challenging task. To address the heterogeneity, analytical agent-based models (ABMs) are gaining popularity due to its capability of directly representing individual entities and their interactions, unfortunately, ABMs (in which each agent has unique behavior) are not very well suited for large populations, expressed by exponentially rising simulation time. To solve this problem, the questions (i) how does the parallel execution of such models scale with capabilities of both the machine (number of cores, cluster size, etc.) and agents (behavioral adaptation function, interaction extent, etc.) and (ii) what is, in comparison, the performance coefficient applying the approach of model execution on graphical processors (GPUs) with its different pipelining architecture, need answers. To this end, we have performed simulation runs with parameter variation on a real parallel and distributed hardware platform using Cilk as well as on a GPU employing OpenCL. Simulation efficiency for two realistic models with varying complexity on a scale of 107 agents has shown the usefulness of both approaches. © 2011 IEEE.
