Shared machines in opportunistic grids typically have large quantities of unused disk space. these resources could be used to store application and checkpointing data when the machines are idle, allowing those machines to share not only computational cycles, but also disk space. In this paper we present the design and implementation of OppStore, a middleware that provides reliable distributed data storage using the free disk space from shared grid machines. the system utilizes a two-level peer-to-peer organization to connect grid machines in a scalable andfaulttolerant ways Finally, we use the concept of virtual ids to deal with resource heterogeneity, enabling heterogeneityaware load-balancing selection of storage sites.

the existence of good probabilistic models for the job arrival process and job characteristics is important for the improved understanding of grid systems and the prediction of their performance. In this study, we present a thorough analysis of the job inter-arrival times, the waiting times at the queues, the execution times, and the data sizes exchanged at the *** cluster, which is part of the EGEE Grid infrastructure. By computingthe Hurst parameter of the inter-arrival times wefind that the job arrival process exhibits self-similarityllong-range dependence. We also propose simple and intuitive models for the job arrival process and the job execution times. the models proposed were validated and were found to be in very good agreement with our empirical measurements.

distributed cooperation work system performs more effectively than a centralized cooperation work system in many aspects. In this paper, we analyze the existing problems in cooperation work models nowadays, and then present a P2P distributed cooperation work model based on JXTA platform, which can greatly simplify the development of distributed collaboration work system and enable the system possess of better scalability, platform- -independence and flexible applicability. At last, we obtain an analysis compared to other models and make suggestions to improve the model.

the successful execution of workflows using mobile services is dependant on the services behaving as expected. the management of this behaviour in Akogrimo is achieved by a context management framework bridging boththe network and Grid Middleware. the quality of the information that passes over this link is essential to the whole Akogrimo application. In order to ensure relevant and specific context information is used in Akogrimo the development of mechanism to aid network, to middleware service to service understanding is essential. In creating such a mechanism the concept of self similarity in creating understanding between services is essential. the challenges and issues when applying this process to Akogrimo's unique mix of services are discussed in this paper.

the current trend of computing paradigm is heading toward the pervasive computing. Nevertheless, withthe rapid advancements in hardware, software, and network, the desktop computing will still prevail in the next decade. In light of this, this paper designed and implemented a platform for hosting desktop computing in a network environment, namely, GTCOM. GTCOM can transparently provide a full functionality as a desktop computer and allow computing services including operating systems to be acquired and utilized ondemand from the server. Since all management tasks are centralized on the server, GTCOM can provide user-needed services through zero-managed clients. We implemented a prototype system based on Godson-2 platform.. the experimental results demonstrate only negligible overhead is induced which shows feasibility and effectiveness of our approach.
Systems such as SETI@home [8] have proven that it is possible to make good use of massive amounts of communication and computing power that would otherwise be wasted in the leaves of the Internet. In this paper we exp...

A computational grid is a distributed infrastructure that appears to the end user as one large computing resource across organization boundaries. Grid technologies enable large-scale sharing of resources within formal or informal consortia of individuals and/or institutions, usually called virtual organizations. In these settings, the discovery, characterization, and monitoring of resources, services, and computations can be challenging due to the considerable diversity, large numbers, dynamic behavior and geographical distribution of the entities in which a user might be interested. this work explores the grid computing current state and perspectives in Latin America. In particular we describe potential grid application areas and the experiences of our group in this promising field of research. Also, considering that grid trends are showing the importance of grid services we also identify some limitations and future research directions on this domain.
