About ten years ago, a novel graph edit distance framework based on bipartite graph matching has been introduced. this particular framework allows the approximation of graph edit distance in cubic time. this, in turn, makes the concept of graph edit distance also applicable to larger graphs. In the last decade the corresponding paper has been cited more than 360 times. Besides various extensions from the methodological point of view, we also observe a great variety of applications that make use of the bipartite graph matching framework. the present paper aims at giving a first survey on these applications stemming from six different categories (which range from document analysis, over biometrics to malware detection).

Genetics has known an extraordinary development in the last years, with a reduction of several orders of magnitude in the costs and the times required to obtain the sequence of nucleotides corresponding to a whole genome, leading to the availability of huge amounts of genomic data. While these data are essentially very long strings, several graphbasedrepresentations have been introduced to perform efficiently some operations on a single genome or on a set of related genomes. In this paper we will review the most important types of genetic graphs, together withthe algorithmic challenges and open issues related to their use.

Skeleton-based action/gesture recognition has already witnessed excellent progress on processing large-scale, laboratory-based datasets with pre-defined skeleton joint topology. However, it's still an unsolved task when it comes to real-world scenarios with practical limitations such as small-scaled dataset sizes, few-labeled samples, and various skeleton topologies. In this paper, we work on the recognition of micro-gestures, which are subtle body gestures collected in real-world scenarios. Specifically, we utilize contrastive learning to heritage the knowledge from known large-scale datasets for enhancing the learning on fewer samples of micro-gestures. To overcome the gap caused by various domain distributions and structure topologies between the datasets, we compute skeleton representations from augmented sequences via momentum-based efficient and scalable encoders as additional inductive priors. Importantly, we propose an effective dense-graphbased unsupervised architecture that resorts to a queue-based dictionary to store positive and negative keys for better contrast with queries to learn substantially efficient and discriminant patterns in the feature space. Together with cross-dataset experimental results show that our model significantly improves the accuracies on two micro-gesture datasets, SMG by 7.4% and iMiGUE by 18.41% advocating its superiority.

this paper deals withthe structural recognition of symbols on the documents. We have based our system on a combination of local and global structural approaches. the global approach groups the connected components together according to some closeness and connection constraints. the local approach splits up each connected component into a graph of geometrical objects (vectors, arcs, curves). the extracted graphs are matched thanks to a structural classifier, which permits graph-subgraph and exact-inexact matching. the system adaptability is obtained thanks to the scenarios use. A XML data representation is used, allowing the data manipulations and the graphic representations of results.

Irregular pyramids are made of a stack of successively reduced graphs embedded in the plane. Such pyramids are often used within the segmentation and the connected component analysis frameworks to detect meaningful objects together withtheir spatial and topological relationships. the graphs reduced in the pyramid may be region adjacency graphs, dual graphs or combinatorial maps. Using any of these graphs each vertex of a reduced graph encodes a region of the image. Using simple graphs one edge between two vertices encodes the existence of a common boundary between two regions. Using dual graphs and combinatorial maps, each connected boundary segment between two regions is associated to one edge. Moreover, special edges called loops may be used to differentiate a special type of adjacency where one region surrounds the other. We show in this article that the loop information does not allow to distinguish inside and outside of the loop by local computations. We provide a method based on the combinatorial pyramid framework which uses the orientation explicitly encoded by combinatorial maps to determine inside and outside with local calculus.

In this paper we describe modifications of irregular image segmentation pyramids based on user-interaction. We first build a hierarchy of segmentations by the minimum spanning tree based method, then regions from different (granularity) levels are combined to a final (better) segmentation with user-specified operations guiding the segmentation process. based on these operations the users can produce a final image segmentation that best suits their applications. this work can be used for applications where we need accuracy in image segmentation, in annotating images or creating ground truth among others.
