Withthe considerable amount of data and the diversity of the user's needs, the personalization of information becomes a real challenge in web-based information systems. this paper presents a personalized access technique, based on a profile modeling. this technique requires two steps: 1) building user's profile and 2) using profile content for filtering information. the first step consists in modeling a global profile which can be used for different and independent requirements of personalization. the profile modeling takes into account the user's context when defining user's profiles. We describe a global profile in three levels: meta-description level, description level for a specific domain, instances (data). the second step consists in selecting the profiles rules which correspond to the user and his current context and to filter information accordingly.

At present the agent paradigm is often used for computational modeling of human behavior in an organizational setting. However, not many of the existing computational approaches make use of a rich theoretical basis developed in social science. therefore, often mathematically sound models are invalid in practice. this paper proposes a formal approach for modeling of characteristics and behavior of agents in organizations, diverse aspects of which are represented using an expressive formal framework. the approach is based on the theoretical findings from social science and enables analysis of how different organizational and environmental factors influence the behavior and performance of agents. the approach is illustrated by a simulation case study.

there has been increasing interest in using games for education, but little investigation of how to model student learning within games [cf. 6]. We investigate how existing techniques for modelingthe acquisition of fluent skill can be adapted to the context of an educational action game, Zombie Division. We discuss why this adaptation is necessarily different for educational action games than for other types of games, such as turn-based games. We demonstrate that gain in accuracy over time is straightforward to model using exponential learning curves, but that models of gain in speed over time must also take gameplay learning into account.

In philosophy, the term ontology has been used since the 17th century to refer both to a philosophical discipline (Ontology with a capital "O"), and as a domain-independent system of categories that can be used in the conceptualization of domain-specific scientific theories. In the past decades there has been a growing interest in the subject of ontology in computer and information sciences. In the last few years, this interest has expanded considerably in the context of the Semantic Web and MDA (Model-Driven Architecture) research efforts, and due to the role ontologies are perceived to play in these initiatives. In this paper, we explore the relations between Ontology and ontologies in the philosophical sense with domain ontologies in computer science. Moreover, we elaborate on formal characterizations for the notions of ontology, conceptualization and metamodel, as well as on the relations between these notions. Additionally, we discuss a set of criteria that a modeling language should meet in order to be considered a suitable language to model phenomena in a given domain, and present a systematic framework for language evaluation and design. Furthermore, we argue for the importance of ontology in both philosophical senses aforementioned for designing and evaluating a suitable general ontology representation language, and we address the question whether the so-called Ontology Web languages can be considered as suitable general ontology representation languages. Finally, we motivate the need for two complementary classes of modeling languages in Ontology Engineering addressing two separate sets of concerns.

In this paper, we present a novel classification method for eye location. It is based on image context analysis. there is general accord that context can be affluent derivation of information about an illumination, character and diversity of object. However, the problem of how to customize contextual influence is not yet solved clearly. Here we describe a naive probabilistic method for modeling and testing the images of eye patterns. the proposed eye location method employs context-driven adaptive Bayesian framework to relive the effect due to uneven condition of face image. Based on an easy holistic analysis of face images, the proposed method is able to exactly locate eye position. the experimental results show that the proposed approach can achieve superior performance using various data sets to previously proposed methods.

Intrusion Detection Systems (IDSs) have the reputation of generating many false positives. Recent approaches, known as stateful IDSs, take the state of communication sessions into account to address this issue. A substantial reduction of false positives, however, requires some correlation between the state of the session, known vulnerabilities, and the gathering of more network context information by the IDS than what is currently done (e.g., configuration of a node, its operating system, running applications). In this paper we present an IDS approach that attempts to decrease the number of false positives by collecting more network context and combining this information with known vulnerabilities. the approach is model-driven as it relies on the modeling of packet and network information as UML class diagrams, and the definition of intrusion detection rules as OCL expressions constraining these diagrams. the approach is evaluated using real attacks on real systems, and appears to be promising.

One of the problems associated with complex systems engineering is identifying the system knowledge relevant to build system implementation. System operations are an essential part of this knowledge. Software and system engineering standards highlight the importance of system operations;templates for a concept of operations document are available from different standard bodies in the context of requirements engineering and specification. However, specific guidelines for operations modeling are not usually provided. this paper introduces an approach to systematically model system operations. the cornerstone for this is an operations metamodel;this metamodel is presented within this paper and has been defined using UML 2.x. the baseline for the metamodel is a schema, also introduced within the paper, which formalizes system operations in terms of commands acting on systems, inputs to the system, and different kinds of outputs classified into responses, notifications and alarms. Operations models, as presented here, comprise system knowledge essentials from a functional point of view but reduced in size compared to the whole system specification. they can be deployed in several ways;this paper presents their use as drivers for system development and validation from early lifecycle stages.

the human long-term memory is astonishingly powerful but fallible at the same time. this makes it very easy to forget information one is sure one actually knows. We propose context-aware augmented memory systems as a solution to this problem. In this paper, we analyse the user interface and interaction design challenges that need to be overcome to build such a system. We hope for fruitful interdisciplinary discussions on how best to address these challenges.

Today, we observe a wide use of geospatial databases that are implemented in many forms (e.g. transactional centralized systems, distributed databases, multidimensional datacubes). Among those possibilities, the multidimensional datacube is more appropriate to support interactive analysis and to guide the organization's strategic decisions, especially when different epochs and levels of information granularity are involved. However, one may need to use several geospatial multidimensional datacubes which may be heterogeneous in design or content. Overcoming the heterogeneity problems in a manner that is transparent to users has been the principal aim of interoperability for the last fifteen years. In spite of successful initiatives and widespread use of standards, today's solutions do not address yet geospatial datacubes. this paper aims at describing the interoperability of geospatial datacubes, defining the semantic heterogeneity problems that may occur when using different geospatial datacubes, and proposing a conceptual framework to support semantic interoperability of these datacubes.
