Knowledge services technology is becoming the important means to realize Business Intelligence and Knowledge-Based Systems. Based on the development of Grid and Web Services technologies, using Service-Oriented Architecture to build knowledge services is mentioned by many researchers. In this paper, a multi-perspective Knowledge Service Description Model (KSDM) for overall knowledge service modeling is proposed. the model pays attention to the executable part such as the dynamics, process, functionality and context of knowledge within knowledge service, which have not been addressed in existing knowledge service methods. Besides the basic configuration part, the model emphasizes definition of the knowledge contents part from four main perspectives that are Domain Knowledge, Inference Knowledge, Task Knowledge and context Knowledge. For the application in real systems, a task-oriented architecture based on KSDM is proposed. And an implementation of mine resources evaluation knowledge service on Spatial Information Grid is introduced.

In this paper, we present our newly developed face expression modeling system for expression analysis and identification. Given a face image at a front view, a realistic facial model is created using our extended topographic analysis and model instantiation approach. Our facial expression modeling system consists of two major components: (1) facial feature representation usingthe coarse-to-fine multiscale topographic primitive features and (2) an adaptive generic model individualization process based on the primal facial surface feature context. the algorithms have been tested using both static images and facial expression sequences. the usefulness of the generated expression models is validated by our 3D facial expression analysis algorithm. the accuracy of the generated expression model is evaluated by the comparison between the generated models and the range models obtained by a 3D digitizer

We investigate the use of topic models, such as probabilistic latent semantic analysis (PLSA) and latent Dirichlet allocation (LDA), for word completion tasks. the advantage of usingthese models for such an application is twofold. On the one hand, they allow us to exploit semantic or contextual information when predicting candidate words for completion. On the other hand, these probabilistic models have been found to outperform classical latent semantic analysis (LSA) for modeling text documents. We describe a word completion algorithm that takes into account the semantic context of the word being typed. We also present evaluation metrics to compare different models being used in our study. Our experiments validate our hypothesis of using probabilistic models for semantic analysis of text documents and their application in word completion tasks.

Four papers by learning scientists engaged either in design research or cognitive-developmental studies consider concreteness, context, content, pedagogy, and situativity and their implications for design that fosters opportunities for students to learn subject matter through experiencing authentic scientific/mathematical inquiry. the authors furnish boththeoretical considerations and recent classroom- and laboratory-based empirical findings to question prior interpretations of students' capacity to model and abstract from situations, to generate examples, to transfer, and to make insightful connections. the papers jointly suggest that even simple objects may nevertheless undergird emergent situativity that provides sufficient context to which learners can bring diverse personal resources. Model-based design may be as intellectually honest, culturally respectful, cognitively generative, and scientifically/mathematically authentic as learning that draws more directly on students' out-of-school resources. the authenticity of 'authentic inquiry' may depend more on engagement and reasoning it enables than on specific content and a priori "good-science" practices it recruits.
Many applications require ordering of instances represented by high dimensional vectors. Despite the reasonable quantity of papers on classification and clustering, papers on multidimensional ranking are rare. this pa...

Two-hemisphere model driven (2HMD) approach assumes modeling and use of procedural and conceptual knowledge on an equal and related basis. this differentiates 2HMD approach from pure procedural, pure conceptual, and object oriented approaches. the approach may be applied in the context of modeling of a particular business domain as well as in the context of modelingthe knowledge about the domain. In educational domain there are twofold application possibilities of 2HMD approach; firstly, in terms of modeling of knowledge to be taught and, secondly, in terms of modeling of educational process aimed at providing a particular knowledge reflected by the two-hemisphere model. modeling of educational process by 2HMD approach gives an opportunity to transparently analyze and compare knowledge to be provided and knowledge actually provided by courses belonging to a particular study program, and, thus, to identify and fill the gaps between desirable and actual knowledge content

the objective of this article is to study and model the annotation context, to be used as a basis to design context- aware annotation functionalities dedicated to the teacher into the MemoNote tool. MemoNote tool is a semantic and personal annotation tool dedicated to teachers,. Starting from a specification of context and more precisely annotation context, we define how to capture it from elements of the teaching situation and to model it with ontologies. Annotation context can then be used by the two MemoNote annotation functionalities, manual annotation and pattern-based annotation.. It is done by selecting a set of ontologies and patterns suited for the current context.
