the near-far object tracking (NFOT) problem concerns the tracking of an extended object consisting of a set of resolvable sources that, due to finite sensor resolution, appears as a single point when at long range from the sensor. A Gaussian mixture filter for this problem is presented for the case of a linear object comprising a known number of sources. the filter structure is a combination of the probabilistic data association (PDA) filter and the multiple simultaneous measurement filter. the filter takes into account the uncertainty concerning the object's structure and orientation, as well as the presence of false alarms. Simulations for an open-loop pursuit scenario are presented that compare the performance of the filter with another Gaussian mixture filter that does not consider sensor resolution

Usage of automated teller machines (ATMs) is confined to financial transactions in the present world scenario. Multimedia usage for finance is inhibited by several factors including security and lack of flexible user interface models to proliferate the public environment usage criterion. Financial services become more attractive when the user obtains a plurality of services over existing access methodology using personalized web pages, animated and other customized mobile agents to mimic the usage patterns. We present an intelligent and novel approach to facilitate and propel financial and non-financial services for public environments that seamlessly integrate wireless multimedia applications and digital content over the financial services network. Our design is based on the embedded ATM access point that uses secure software architecture with V2oIP stack to facilitate the usage and creation of a multitude of new services. Dynamic and adaptive context-sensitive GUI with animated icons forms the trend for the next generation of compact ubiquitous devices that proliferate the home network and public environment

modeling (LM) has been successfully applied to Information Retrieval (IR). However, most of the existing LM approaches only rely on term occurrences in documents, queries and document collections. In traditional unigram based models, terms (or words) are usually considered to be independent. In some recent studies, dependence models have been proposed to incorporate term relationships into LM, so that links can be created between words in the same sentence, and term relationships (e.g. synonymy) can be used to expand the document model. In this study, we further extend this family of dependence models in the following two ways: (1) Term relationships are used to expand query model instead of document model, so that query expansion process can be naturally implemented;(2) We exploit more sophisticated inferential relationships extracted with Information Flow (IF). Information flow relationships are not simply pairwise term relationships as those used in previous studies, but are between a set of terms and another term. they allow for context-dependent query expansion. Our experiments conducted on TREC collections show that we can obtain large and significant improvements with our approach. this study shows that LM is an appropriate framework to implement effective query expansion. We present the Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) approach in the context of a musculoskeletal model of the thumb. With special consideration for the complexities of biomechanical modeling, we present this approach as an alternative to standard parameter estimation techniques that produce a single, in some way optimal, set of parameter values. In contrast, MCMC methods are derived from a Bayesian philosophy, in which each "true" model parameter is actually a random variable with its own probability distribution. With MCMC we can (1) address challenges of model parameter estimation that are difficult for gradient-based methods to meet, (2) estimate the inherent biomechanical capabilities of a specific "model topology" for large, variable parameter spaces (e.g. 50-dimensional for the assumed thumb model), and (3) determine the functional consequences of the unavoidable anatomical variability across subjects in a population. usingthe MCMC approach with a Metropolis-Hastings sampling algorithm we explored a 50-D musculoskeletal parameter space and successfully achieved convergence. We found the relatively small subspace of the expansive 50-D space that, for a hinged serial linkage model of the thumb, predicts functional outcomes that best-fit the experimental data.

Past research in deception detection at the University of Arizona has guided the investigation of intent detection. A theoretical foundation and model for the analysis of intent detection is proposed. Available test beds for intent analysis are discussed and two proof-of-concept studies exploring nonverbal communication within the context of intent detection are shared.
