Diabetic retinopathy lesion segmentation in fundus images is challenging, due to the existence of the scale variation, similar lesion appearances, and foreground-background imbalance. the previous semantic segmentation approaches primarily address scale change without sufficiently tackling the other two specific challenges of fundus image segmentation. To solve the aforementioned problems, this paper presents a novel approach, named the HFM-Seg network, aimed to enhance lesion segmentation using a hybrid foreground modeling network. It consists the relation-based and the optimization-based foreground modeling. the relation-based part of the HFM-Seg network uses the cene-context enhancement module to learn the foreground-background relationship to associate the foreground-related multi-scale context, so as to enhance the discrimination of foreground features. And the relation-based part of the HFM-Seg network adopts the adaptive foreground enhancement optimization, which pays attention to both foreground samples and background difficult samples in the training process, achieving balanced optimization. the mAUC values of HFM-Seg on the IDRiD, DDR, and E-optha datasets surpass the average of six other advanced methods by 7.76%, 15.09%, and 13.51% respectively, demonstrating HFM-Seg's effectiveness. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

Machine Learning (ML) is used in many Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications to solve the complex problems. Concurrently, conceptual modeling is frequently used to generalize such real-world activities to the appropriate degree of detail, thereby capturing and representing the criteria for creating an effective information system to enable an application. AI is now pervasive in both personal and work lives. this study discusses some real-world risks associated with black-box artificial intelligence, the resulting demand for explainability, and earlier work on Explainable AI (XAI) in data science. Additionally, this study covers the definition of XAI, overall XAI goals, stakeholder categories, and excellence standards for personalized explanations. © 2023 IEEE.

Dialogue segmentation plays a crucial role in various dialogue modeling tasks. Semantic coherence-based methods are a major trend, but previous methods have tended to take fixed-size units in assessing semantic coherence, which may suffer from semantic loss or noise introduction, thus obtaining inaccurate coherence scores. In this paper, we propose a simple but effective approach for dynamically assessing semantic coherence, which can improve the accuracy of coherence scoring by dynamically expanding the assessment unit from a single utterance to a semantically related context. Experimental results on three benchmark datasets in English and Chinese demonstrate that our proposal can achieve competitive performance over strong baselines.

this study aims to assess the impact of the Port Community System (PCS) on users’ organizational performance. In the case of Moroccan ports, the PCS is evaluated using Mc Delonne’s theoretical model by the Structural Equation modeling (SEM) method via SPSS AMOS software, applied to the sample of 226 valid responses obtained from the Moroccan port community. the peculiarities of the port sector, the instability of the global environment and the importance of digital management persuaded us of the importance of a port-specific evaluation trial to highlight the contribution of PCS to organizational performance. the main finding of this study is that social-technical aspects do have an impact on the success of a PCS, and that satisfaction is determined solely by the quality of the information and the actual use of the PCS. © the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

With the expansion of renewables in the electricity mix, power grid variability will increase;hence, the system needs to be robust to guarantee its security. To anticipate the design of new tools and processes, Transmission System Operators (TSOs) must conduct analyses to simulate the future operation of power systems. then, these simulations are used as inputs in decision-making processes. In this context, we investigate using deep learning models to generate energy production and load forecast trajectories. We adapt autoregressive networks and normalizing flows to capture the spatiotemporal correlations in these multivariate time series, demonstrating their effectiveness against the current copula-based statistical approach. We conduct extensive experiments on the French TSO RTE wind forecast data and compare the different models with ad hoc evaluation metrics for time series generation.

Aiming at the problems of lack of emotional resonance and unsatisfactory anthropomorphic effect in the responses generated by the existing dialog models, a dialog generation model based on the prediction of emotional intent is proposed. the model predicts the intention information of the context to obtain fine-grained emotion information to construct a high-quality dialog generation system, combines with an emotion classifier to identify the emotion category of the input utterance, and generates corresponding empathetic replies based on the emotion comparison mechanism according to the different intention information and emotion information. the experimental results show that compared with the traditional dialog generation model, the proposed model can recognize the user's emotional intent and emotion information, generate responses that are more in line with the user's expectations and adapt to the context, and realize a more empathetic emotional dialog process. © 2024 SPIE.

Multimedia data, including videos, audio, images, and electronic documents, often contains sensitive information that must be protected from a wide range of security threats. Traditional cryptographic methods, while effective, may not always provide sufficient robustness against evolving attacks, especially in the context of multimedia content. Chaos-based cryptography has emerged as an innovative and promising approach to address these challenges, offering unique advantages in terms of unpredictability, complexity, and sensitivity to initial conditions. this article explores the potential of chaos-based encryption as a superior alternative to conventional techniques, highlighting key advantages such as enhanced security, greater computational efficiency, and adaptability to various multimedia formats. We also define several important metrics and evaluation methods for assessing the reliability and effectiveness of chaos-based encryption systems, including key sensitivity, entropy, and resistance to cryptanalysis. Finally, we provide a comprehensive comparison of recent advancements in chaos-based audio encryption, analyzing different encryption schemes, their strengths, and limitations, to offer insights into future developments in this cutting-edge field. © 2024 IEEE.

this study aims to reevaluate the role of the N 400 component in language processing from the perspective of predictive coding theory and investigate the impact of surprisal on N400 amplitude. An ERP experiment was conducted using three surprisal conditions (Best Completion, Unrelated, Implausible) with a BERT-based model optimized for Japanese contexts. Analysis of EEG data revealed distinct N400 amplitudes and brain connectivity patterns across the surprisal conditions. Notably, changes in alpha-band phase synchronization reflected cognitive processes related to the degree of mismatch between predicted and actual input in each context. these findings suggest that higher levels of surprisal lead to increased cognitive load, manifesting as dynamic changes in brain network activity. © 2024 IEEE.

this paper aims at improving the performance of a DC Microgrid System, by introducing different control strategies and testing the performance of each. the components of this system are PV-source, power converters, and storage systems. the overall system will first be designed to be able to test the improvement of using the control strategies. Simulink will be used to implement the system modeling and testing. Different control schemes could be used in this context, such as fuzzy logic controller. © 2023 IEEE.
