Hierarchical phrase-based translation is a state-of- the-art model. However, it does not consider the linguistic knowledge deeply as pure syntax-based model. In this paper, we propose a novel head-annotated synchronous context-free grammar for hierarchical phrase- based translation model. Our model contains several nonterminals in the synchronous rules. It can integrate some linguistic knowledge from head-modifier relationships of the words in source language. the experimental results obtain significant improvements in BLEU score over the NIST-05 task.

Changes that are operated by autonomic networks and systems may generate vulnerabilities and increase the exposure to security attacks. We present in this paper a new approach for increasing vulnerability awareness in such self-managed environments. Our objective is to enable autonomic networks to take advantage of the knowledge provided by vulnerability descriptions in order to maintain safe configurations. In that context, we propose a modeling and an architecture for automatically translating these descriptions into policy rules that are interpretable by an autonomic configuration system. We also describe an implementation prototype and evaluate its performance through an extensive set of experiments.

Citizen science refers to voluntary participation by the general public in scientific endeavors. Although citizen science has a long tradition, the rise of online communities and user-generated web content has the potential to greatly expand its scope and contributions. Citizens spread across a large area will collect more information than an individual researcher can. Because citizen scientists tend to make observations about areas they know well, data are likely to be very detailed. Although the potential for engaging citizen scientists is extensive, there are challenges as well. In this paper we consider one such challenge - creating an environment in which non-experts in a scientific domain can provide appropriate and accurate data regarding their observations. We describe the problem in the context of a research project that includes the development of a website to collect citizen-generated data on the distribution of plants and animals in a geographic region. We propose an approach that can improve the quantity and quality of data collected in such projects by organizing data using instance-based data structures. Potential implications of this approach are discussed and plans for future research to validate the design are described.

In this paper, the development of a closed captioning system for Filipino TV news programs is discussed. the researchers tested the system for offline captioning and evaluated the performance of the system based on word error rate (WER). Carnegie Mellon University's open-source speech recognition system, Sphinx-III, was used as the primary training and recognition engine. A Filipino News Corpus was built consisting of speech and text data obtained from Filipino news videos. Training and testing sets were generated and from this, different training and decoding parameters of Sphinx were evaluated. usingthe word error rate (WER) computation, the highest average recognition accuracy achieved in developing for the test set was 57.36% using flat start context-dependent models and a language model with absolute discounting applied. this project is a first step towards establishing the baseline accuracy for future development of the system.

Virtual Reality based surgical simulators have become quite common for training of surgeons for different surgical skills. Simulators have been widely used particularly in minimal invasive surgery. In this paper we find parameters that would be required to create a real time working simulation for exercises given in the Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Surgery curriculum. We use peg transfer exercise as our example in this work and create simulations for parameter analysis using SOFA, an open source surgical framework [1]. the parameters we choose are generic and can be used to create other more complex simulations like cholecystectomy [2] (gall bladder removal) and appendectomy (appendix removal). We show the implementation of these parameters and their behavior in a virtual reality surgical simulation. this work can be used by researchers and developers to choose the right parameters in the context of the simulation they are developing. It also shows the cost and behavior of achieving good visualization (frames per second), physical characteristics and a realistic behavioral model to be used in simulations for training purposes.

From the perspective of trust theory, this essay established a model of inexperienced consumers' window shopping behavior in China context. the results indicate that most Chinese inexperienced consumers only do window shopping, at least partly, because they perceived low trust during e-shopping which induce them to stop more involving. the study also proved that uncertainty is negatively related to trust in the process of online shopping. Mobility is probably the most important ongoing revolution in the information society of today. the outstanding achievements made in computing and networking during the last decades (which have been available using personal computers at homes and workplaces) are progressively permeating all aspects of life thanks to the plethora of mobile devices at the disposal of the users, including netbooks, PDAs and smartphones. these are also increasingly intelligent and powerful, allowing for rich user interfaces and complex operations and software. On the other hand, the advance of the Internet has given birth to a converged Web which offers a myriad of different services just with a couple of clicks. However, in order to lower the barriers for accessing these services, a platform for ubiquitous service delivery and management is still required, and a viable alternative is presented along this work.
