Real-time performance monitoring is an essential practice to enable sense-and-respond capability of enterprises. However, building a performance monitoring application is often arduous. We present a model-driven, systematic approach to performance monitoring based on an extended business artifact-centric process model. In this approach, business artifacts provide a means of tracking resource utilization in processes. Monitoring contexts and inbound event definitions are derived from the artifact model and can be configured for target performance measures. During process execution, inbound events are collected in a timely manner and fed into the monitoring contexts to calculate performance measures and detect situations. thus, we turn performance monitoring into an integrated part of business process modeling to achieve accelerated development.

the chemical and petroleum (oil and gas, C&P) is a fast growing and diversified industry. Various applications, from field technique equipment data exchange to business execution with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, have been deployed to manage and record operation performance. Various industry standards have been defined to create a commonly accepted nomenclature for representing structural and operational aspects of oil and gas enterprises. All of these industry standards represent valuable sources of information and industry best practice, which is accepted by large community and helps enterprise building IT systems in flexible and inter-operable way. However, the overlaps and gaps between standards bring inconsistency for implementation. this article introduces Reference Semantic Model (RSM), a key component of IBM C&P solution and basis of C&P integration framework, which pull together concepts from various standards using a semantic modeling approach, fill gaps and build bridge between the standards, and presents a uniform information model with rich context quantity for C&P enterprises. It then brought up a RSM based model driven integration solution for solving typical C&P system integration problem, which is flexible, interoperable and standards implemented.

contextual information is becoming available withthe increasing deployment of RFID tags, sensor network and mobile devices. the context information regarding user's environment can be utilized to adapt the behavior of services automatically to user's situation and need. this kind of adaptive services is called context-aware services. Despite of technological possibility, there is still lack of successful context-aware service. this paper focuses on the methodology of context-aware service design. We first define a formal model of context-aware service based on Petri net. the model is independent of sensor and implementation. then we propose a methodology of service design including three steps: transforming scenario description into initial service model; constructing context hierarchies and knowledge base; refining model. A conference assistant is designed according to this method.

Pandemic influenza has great potential to cause large and rapid increases in deaths and serious illness. the objective of this paper is to develop an agent-based model to simulate the spread of pandemic influenza (novel H1N1) in Egypt. the proposed multi-agent model is based on the modeling of individuals' interactions in a space-time context. the proposed model involves different types of parameters such as: social agent attributes, distribution of Egypt population, and patterns of agents' interactions. Analysis of modeling results leads to understanding the characteristics of the modeled pandemic, transmission patterns, and the conditions under which an outbreak might occur. In addition, the proposed model is used to measure the effectiveness of different control strategies to intervene the pandemic spread.

We propose behavioral time-domain modeling for a Sigma-Delta Modulator (ΣΔM) to sense photocurrent in a CMOS Image Sensor (CIS). the model starts from transfer function for first-order single-bit ΣΔM in discrete-time, and then adds noise sources and nonlinearities by introducing noise floor and harmonic distortion, which determine system performance. the results were compared withthe measurements of a CIS based ΣΔM circuit prototype fabricated with CMOS technology. the model showed good agreement with measurements.

the paper presents an adaptive and responsive service framework that integrates context aware techniques with an open source service oriented platform OSGi. the adoption of context aware techniques will allow the proposed service framework to dynamically and effectively manage services resources in response to in-bound tasks identified by the framework. the core services (i.e system services) of the framework maintain the basic functions and operations of the framework. these services are designed and implemented as plug-ins taking advantages of SOA support in general and OSGi services support in particular. It is through the collaborations of systems services withthe services external to the framework, business specific solutions are delivered.

this paper addresses issues of safety in pervasive spaces. We show how pervasive systems are different from traditional computer systems, and how their cyber-physical nature ties intimately withthe users. Errors and conflicts in such space could have detrimental, dangerous or undesired effects on the user, the space, or the devices. there are no support systems or programming models conscious of the issue of safety. Unrestrained programming is the model de jour, which is inadequate. We need a programming model that encourages and obligates various roles engaged in the development of pervasive spaces to contribute to increasing safety. We propose a model that utilizes role-specific safety knowledge, and that takes advantage of the rich sensing and actuations capabilities of pervasive systems to detect and handle “conflicting contexts” and prevent or detect/avert“impermissible contexts”. We present our model and discus show it mitigates overall safety risks in presence of uncertainty due to multiple independent roles.

In the context of video games design, Artificial Intelligence (AI) a broad of techniques have been used to generate the behavior of Non-Players Characters (NPC's). In this document, is explored the use of Supervisory control in Discrete Event Systems for design the behavior of NPC's, where the interaction between them it is not blocking. the modeling tool used is Interpreted Petri Nets (IPN) which are an extension of Petri Nets (PN) allow to relate input signals and output signals for PN models.

this paper presents an analysis of the behavior of an electricity market equilibrium model under a scenario with Large-Scale penetration of Wind Energy. the objective is to assess the robustness of this kind of models under the new context in which wind power is becoming increasingly important. In the model, different load level specifications are implemented as well as different scenarios of hydro conditions. the results show that the conjectural variation equilibrium model is robust to represent an electricity market with high penetration of wind energy.
