the paper describes how hypertextual access structures can be formed to support the maintenance of C programs. the access structures are formed automatically based on the HyperSoft model and method developed earlier. the automatic creation is based on syntactical fragmentation of program text and on relationships between these fragments. the access structures are transient, meaning that instead of storing them permanently they are created on user request. HyperSoft enables flexible navigation between the program parts which are relevant to a certain maintenance situation. the HyperSoft system currently supports C language and five access structures: occurrence lists for variables and functions, forward and backward calling dependence structures, intraprocedural backward slices, and interprocedural forward slices. Access structures are represented to the user as a set of highlighted nodes and graphical links on top of the original program text. the HyperSoft system has been developed in co-operation with the four largest software houses in Finland. © 1996 IEEE.

this paper is concerned with issues and methods for reusing document pieces in the process of constructing other document. Asserting that the practice of reuse deserves a central role in the process of document creation, the authors present a document reuse model (DRM) that captures the essential aspects of document reuse. In order to explore and demonstrate the basic functions necessary to implement the model, they build a prototype for the System for Document Reuse (SDR), and use it in constructing actual documents, including this paper. the core idea is that if one can find a good enough reuse model and implement a prototypical system that demonstrates its principles, then one can suggest a shift of focus in the traditional authoring habits for many kinds of documents. that is, from the beginning an author will be writing for reuse, and will be constructing document pieces as the main activity, as opposed to just writing the single document that is needed for now. the model presents the concept of a reuse library, that contains previously written material about some knowledge domain. For the purpose of reuse, the material is divided into independently managed document pieces that are linked to one another. A writer constructs new documents by reusing document pieces from the library and by writing new material that also goes into the library. SDR enables the writer to create, catalog, retrieve, manipulate and link document pieces. As a test of the ideas presented, the tool was used to write this paper, a software maintenance manual, and a seminar, based on the same material. this experience enabled us to explore and understand document reuse, and find better ways to reuse existing material. © 1996 IEEE.

With the increased interest in workstation networks for parallel and high performance computing it is necessary to reexamine the use of process migration algorithms, to improve the overall utilization of the system, to achieve high performance and to allow flexible use of idle workstations. Currently, almost all programming environments for parallel systems do not use process migration for task assignments. Instead, a static process assignment is used, with sub-optimal performance, especially when several users execute multiple processes simultaneously. the paper highlights the advantages of a process migration scheme for better utilization of the computing resources as well as to gain substantial speedups in the execution of parallel and multi-tasking applications. the authors executed several CPU and communication bound benchmarks under PVM, a popular programming environment for parallel computing that uses static process assignment. these benchmarks were executed under the MOSIX multicomputer operating system, with and without its preemptive process migration scheme. the results of these benchmarks prove the advantages of using preemptive process migrations. the paper begins with an overview of MOSIX, a multicomputer enhancement of UNIX that supports transparent process migration for load-balancing, and PVM. they then present the performance of the executions of the benchmarks. their results show that in some cases the improvements in the performance of PVM with the MOSIX process migration can reach tens or even hundreds of percents. © 1996 IEEE.

In this work we discuss a number of issues for the design of hypertext systems in an agent-based model of computation. We examine how the ''traditional'' fundamental concepts which are at the basis of the design of hypertexts can be re-visited under a new perspective of collaborative expert agents. the paper presents how some principles of high-level concurrent programming are applied as new methodologies for the design and development of complex software, such as hypertext systems. By adopting an agent-based framework, we gain powerful control on version management that presents considerable difficulties for the development of hypertext systems;a general distributed version control mechanism is applied, without significant differences, both in single-user and in collaborative multiuser mode. In both cases, the underlying hypertext architecture is defined in terms of computational agents interacting each other in order to accomplish common goals. In this paper we present a first-level prototype implemented in a concurrent object-oriented language, realized on the top of the Common Lisp Object System.

Geographically Distributed Development (GDD) has now become a prominent software development paradigm. software companies are increasingly adopting geographically distributed development approaches to produce high quality software [1]. geographically distributed development 's popularity has attracted some research, but research work related to global distributed software development performed in Israel is limited. this contrasts with the relatively large-scale distributed software development conducted in Israel or by israeli companies. therefore, this work aims at better understanding the success factors of geographically distributed development in Israel. the research is done using triangulation and comparison of success factors identified by the literature and the opinions of software development practitioners, experts, and managers in Israel. Our findings show that in addition to worldwide common geographically distributed development success factors, some success factors are unique to Israel. © 2021 ACM.

As database technology advances rapidly, there are usually heterogeneous databases (hierarchical, relational or object-oriented databases) used by different departments in an enterprise. On the other hand, the object-oriented technology is becoming the dominant application development paradigm. thus, there is a data modeling gap between applications and heterogeneous databases. In this paper we present different architecture aspects of the system VHDBS1, which has been developed by an ongoing research project. this architecture provides a way to support cooperative access to distributed heterogeneous databases and to fill the data modeling gap in a distributed heterogeneous environment.

Music can relieve people's stress and is an indispensable element in modern life. there are already many music systems that can meet people's needs for listening to songs. Still, people have to download and update the corresponding software to use them, which is undoubtedly tedious and frustrating. With the rapid development of mobile Internet technology, WeChat applets are easy to spread, easy to use and easy to access. As a result, they have become an inseparable part of our life, work and business activities. this research aims to design and implement a music-playing system based on WeChat applets. Although there are many music software, the quick and easy-to-use features of WeChat applets make it necessary to develop music applets. When people want to listen to music, they need to open the app and select the music they like to play. In addition to the basic functions such as music playing, the app also has functions such as video square and song list. © 2024 SPIE.

Tracking various tasks and operations in a manufacturing environment and notifying appropriate personnel when problems arise has traditionally been managed manually, with collected data retained in books at each tool. Often, particular information would be missing, inaccurate or illegible, making it difficult for manufacturing, engineering and maintenance to use in any systematic way. this paper describes a software tracking and notification system that acts as a common front-end for all of its programs and interfaces with other information systems on the manufacturing floor. this system, called Save Hours On Paperwork (SHOP), is readily accessible from either in or outside of the product fabricator and incorporates more than 50 separate functions for manufacturing, engineering and maintenance by automatically performing tracking and notification tasks. SHOP has eliminated the need for manual, time-consuming record keeping and significantly reduced human error.

this paper proposes a sound recognition algorithm for home environment based on deep learning. this algorithm uses the fusion feature extraction method to fuse the two feature extraction methods GFCC and FBank, and uses the fused feature value as the input of the ResNetSE network. Compared with related research, this method is optimized at the model input layer. By fusing two feature extraction methods, it replaces the traditional MFCC feature extraction method and improves the model's classification accuracy for home environment sounds. Experimental results show that the classification accuracy of the FBank-GFCC ResNetSE model proposed in this paper reached 97.4% on the Urbansound8K public data set. Compared with related work, the accuracy is improved by 6.4%. this shows that the algorithm has better performance in home environment sound classification tasks, and provides a more accurate and reliable solution for applications such as security monitoring in smart home systems. © 2024 SPIE.
