An integrated computer control system for the ANU linac

One facet of the installation of the: superconducting linac at the ANU is the need for computer control of a variety of systems, such as beam transport, resonator RF, cryogenics and others. To accommodate this, a number of central interfaces (for example, analogue signals and RS232 serial lines) must be employed. Ideally, all of the systems should be able to be controlled from a central location, remote from the actual devices. To this end a system based around VAX computers and VME crates has been designed and is currently being developed and implemented. A VAXstation is used to issue control messages and perform high-level functions, while VME crates containing appropriate modules (primarily DACs, ADCs and digital I/O boards) control the devices. the controllers in the VME crates ait AEON rtVAX modules running a real-time operating system. Communication with the VAXstation is via DECnet, on a private ethernet to allow communication rates unaffected by unrelated network activity and potentially increasing the security of the system by providing a possible network isolation point, Also on this ethernet am a number of terminal servers to control RS232 devices. A central database contains all device control and monitoring parameters. the main control process running on the VAXstation is responsible for maintaining the current values of the parameters in the database and for dispatching control messages to the appropriate VME crate or RS232 serial line. Separate graphical interface processes allow the operator to interact with the control process, communicating through shared memory. Many graphics processes can be active simultaneously, displaying either on a single or on multiple terminals. software running on the rtVAX controllers handles the low-level device-specific control by translating messages from the main control process to VME commands which set hardware outputs un VME modules. Due to the existence of a large number of different brands and models of equipment and systems in the power system, the CPU control system in the power system is prone to system integration and compatibility problems. In order to ensure the smooth application of CPU control system in electric power system, the research on the application of CPU control system in electric power system based on ARM processor is proposed. the CPU control system architecture of ARM processor is established, and the irregular characteristics and task attributes of computational tasks such as sparse matrix operations in power system topology analysis are analyzed. Subsequently, a general optimization criterion for GPU parallel algorithm design is proposed. Experimental results show that the above CPU control system for topology analysis algorithms in power systems achieves a 6-fold acceleration ratio relative to the 8-threaded CPU algorithm on a 30,000-node system, and more than a 4-fold acceleration in the full process of topology analysis. © 2024 SPIE.

With the invention of Ultra-Bright LED, solid state lighting has come to something which is much more efficient and energy saving when compared to conventional incandescent or fluorescent lighting. With the use of proper driver electronics now a days it is possible to install solid state lighting systems with the cost same as that of any other lighting technology. this paper is a part of the research project we are doing in our lab, which deals with using ultra bright LEDs of different colors for lighting applications. the driver electronics are made in such a way that, the color and brightness of the lights will change according to context. For instance, if one of the users is reading a story or listening to music in a Personal computer or in a hand held device such as a PDA, the lighting systems and the HVAC (Heating Ventilation Air-conditioning) systems will change dramatically according to the content of the story or the music. the vulnerability of solid-state lighting helps to accomplish such an effect. Such a type of system will help the reader to feel the story mentally and physically as well. We developed complete driver electronics for the system using multiple microcomputers and a full software suite which uses complex algorithms to decode the context from text or music and synchronize it to lighting and HVAC information. the paper also presents some case-study statistics which shows the advantage of using the system to teach kindergarten children, deaf and dumb children and for language learning classes.

Elliptic Curve Cryptography(ECC) is widespread in practical applications because compared to other asymmetric cryptosystems, ECC can achieve the same level of security with shorter key lengths. With the development of the Internet of things(IoT), a great deal of constrained devices may require software ECC implementations. However, point multiplication, which is the most time-consuming operation, restricts the use of ECC in these devices. In order to improve the efficiency of the SM2 algorithm based on ECC in IoT, we propose an efficient and secure distributed scheme for SM2 decryption. In this proposed scheme, the SM2 private key is covertly divided into key shares of different lengths, which are then distributed to various devices to ensure the privacy of the key. Additionally, high-performance devices handle auxiliary point multiplication calculations, improving the decryption speed and alleviating the burden of local calculations. Performance analysis and experiments demonstrate that the scheme achieves nearly 3.8 times faster decryption than the standard SM2 algorithm, making it suitable for IoT applications. © 2024 SPIE.

Realistic rendering involves the creation of visually realistic images through computer graphics techniques, commonly applied in fields such as film, video games, and computer-aided design. Recent advancements in modern computer architectures and graphics cards have propelled the rapid progress of ray-traced realistic rendering. Formerly confined to offline rendering, these algorithms are now gradually transitioning into real-time computing. While rendering times and processes for realistic rendering have become more straightforward and accessible, implementing rendering algorithms remains a challenge for beginners lacking coding experience. Generic graphics APIs like Vulkan and DirectX, though powerful, demand a significant investment of time for mastery. the implementation process further involves considerations of overall architectural design, algorithm selection, and future scalability. In addition to these challenges, industrial renderers, while offering mature rendering systems, often contain low-level implementations with software-specific APIs and magic numbers. these intricacies can cause confusion and make it nearly impossible for individual developers to extend the system. To overcome these obstacles, this paper aims to enhance accessibility for rendering enthusiasts by constructing a ray-traced realistic rendering engine based on OpenGL. the engine exhibits characteristics such as strong extensibility and ease of use. Furthermore, a clear and efficient CPU-GPU data transfer framework is designed. © 2024 SPIE.

this LNCS volume contains the papers presented at SEAL 2008, the 7th Int- nationalconference on Simulated Evolutionand Learning,held December 7–10, 2008, in Melbourne, Australia. SEAL 2008 received 140 paper submissions from more than 30 countries. this paper present a novel blockchain CP-ABE (Ciphertext-Policy Attribute-Based Encryption) data ciphertext sharing scheme, leveraging decentralized proxy re-encryption. It utilizes Ethereum blockchain and zero-knowledge proof technologies to develop a blockchain key management system for multiparty secure computation. this system aims to mitigate heavy computation and key leakage risks associated with traditional centralized CP-ABE systems. the approach begins with the design of a distributed master key generation and distribution protocol within the data ciphertext access control, deploying the UMBRAL-based proxy re-encryption technology on blockchain for key management system. Moreover, the paper uses ERC1155 to mint transferable NFTs for blockchain transactions in data sharing and access control. through simulation experiments, our scheme demonstrates improved scalability in blockchain ciphertext data transactions and storage, alongside a significant decrease in the Gas costs of on-chain data asset transactions. Furthermore, our methodology not only augments the safety of distributed key management but also realizes high computational efficiency and swift query response, particularly in scenarios of high concurrency. © 2024 SPIE.

the need for workflow management is apparent from the recent increase in the number of products (Lotus Note, SAP Business Workflow, Workmanager) that aim to support various business workflow features. However, a conceptual modeling or specification of workflow is paramount if workflows are to be managed. the authors propose using two distinct constructs to model workflow, the transaction and the task. the transaction deals with the specification of the communication aspects of workflow, while the task deals with the required adaptability of workflow systems. they demonstrate conceptual modeling of workflow using a real-life system in a hospital.

engineering design applications require the support of long transactions in cooperative environments the problem of the existing copy/update/merge approaches is that the partial effects of a committed transaction may be not part of the merged version. the paper introduces a new cooperative transaction model, which allows updates to be progressively notified or propagated into other transactions accessing the same object. To support incremental update propagation and notification, the authors use the term dynamic dependency to define the intertransaction dependency relationships among all the objects checked out from the public database. Consistency in multiple copies of the same object is achieved by a two-phase delta-merge protocol. the model provides a synchronization of cooperative updates performed in several workspaces without using locking mechanisms.
