Application of Structural Integrity Concepts to RF NPP piping and equipment have started in Russia in the beginning of 1990s from requirements to Leak Before Break (LBB) calculation studies adopted by regulatory body. Results of first practical LBB Concept application to RF NPP piping have been reported at Lyon LBB conference in year 1995. Experience of LBB Concept practical application in Russia during 1990s formed strong basis for issuing comprehensive guideline RD 95 10547-99 which stated LBB Concept basic principles and requirements applicable to RF NPPs with Light Water Reactors (LWR) at all stages of Life Cycle: design, commissioning and operation. Requirements of RD 95 10547- 99 guideline have been in good correspondence to classic LBB principles used in many European countries, USA, Japan and to IAEA Technical Documents as well. RF NPP piping operation experience analysis have revealed necessity of producing more general methodology - Break Preclusion (BP) Concept - to substantiate structural integrity of piping potentially susceptible to active degradation mechanisms like Flow Accelerated Corrosion (FAC), Intergranular Stress Corrosion Cracking (IGSCC), etc. BP and LBB Concepts are based on the same major principles: (a) quality of design, manufacturing, assembling, (b) monitoring of degradation and operating conditions, (c) enveloping loading conditions with respect to maximum design loads, (d) calculation and experimental substantiation of failure according to LBB scenario. LBB Concept requires full implementation of principles (a)/(d) and BP Concept allows to achieve balance in implementation of principles (a) and (b) while principles (c) and (d) should be fully implemented. Memorandum of 8th International Scientific and Technical conference "Safety of VVER NPPs" in year 2013 stated as a 1st priority goal to substantiate structural integrity of main components for Long-Term Operation (LTO) during 60-80 years. the engineering systems design and analysis (esda) conference was started by the then Petroleum Division of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (asme). Petroleum Division was, and still is under the umbrella organization International Petroleum Technology Institute of asme International, one of the very active, forward looking, and entrepreneurial group of engineers whose sole purpose is to serve their membership through technical activities that will benefit society at large. their leaders have always been very creative, open minded, and helpful to the engineers they served as well as all who needed their expertise. It was under this type of leadership that esda was born in 1992. In 2000, after the 5th biennial conference in Montreux, Switzerland, a meeting was held by the Petroleum Division Chairman, the General and Technical Program Chairmen of esda 2000, two staff members from the Petroleum Division, the Chair of the Swiss Section, and the asme Region XIII Vice President where it was decided to turn over the responsibilities for future conferences of esda to the international region of asme, Region XIII. thus, this, the third conference since then, has become the premier conference for this region of asme and is still thriving at this the 8thbiennial conference in Torino. An observer for controlled suspension is presented in this paper based on acceleration measurements. the proposed observer allows to estimate the system states and can be profitably used in a state-derivative feed-back control. this kind of control, designed in the reciprocal-state-space framework (RSS), is based on the optimal control theory and consists in minimizing the derivative of the state vector instead of the state vector itself.

this paper describes how a hydraulic power steering system with increased flexibility, Active Pinion, can be applied as the actuator to an automatic parking system, Parking Pilot. the requirements on the actuator from the parking system and how the actuator's performance translates into parking maneuver performance is studied. the system have been installed in a test rig and in a demonstrator car. this paper addresses to static and dynamic problems of multilayered plate and also embedded piezoelectric layers by means of finite element methods (FEM). Formulation on the basis of Principle of Virtual Displacements (PVD) and Reissner Mixed Variational theorem (RMVT) are considered. A series of hierarchic, two-dimensional plate elements are presented within the "Unified Formulation" recently introduced by the first author. Finite element matrices are derived for static and dynamic problems of piezoelectric laminates. Numerical solutions are compared to available ones to assess mixed and classical finite elements in both case of Layer-Wise (LW) and Equivalent-Single-Layer (ESL) variable description. the superiority of RMVT applications with respect to classical ones based on Principle of Virtual Displacements (PVD) has been confirmed by the conducted numerical investigation. this paper investigates a new robust model based neural controller for active suspension system's vibrations via feedback control approach. the proposed model reference adaptive control system consists of a neural controller, a robust feedback controller, a third-order linear reference model and dynamics of active suspension system. the simulation examples with various standard input signals are included to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed control method and show significant improvement over the existing PID controller method. the robustness of the proposed neural controller is also analyzed with white noise disturbances on the suspension system. It is shown that the control system is robustly stable for all road disturbances. Finally, this kind of control approach could be employed in real time vehicle applications. In this paper a fuzzy-based controller to improve the roll stability in a single unit heavy vehicle is proposed. the controller, consisting of active anti-roll bars, provides the adequate roll moments to the vehicle to improve its performance. the main advantages of fuzzy method are its simplicity, its good performance to control non-linear systems and it is a free-model control. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed control system during different manoeuvres (J-turn and change line). Copyright © 2006 by asme.

Taking advantage of the quasi-three-dimensional (quasi-3D) solution of the energy equation in the lubricant film presented in a previous work, a new method for analyzing the lubrication of dynamically loaded bearings is proposed. Cavitation is taken into account with a mass-conserving formulation of the hydrodynamic problem, where viscosity variations through the oil thickness are considered. the heat exchanged by the lubricant film with the bearing and the shaft is computed. Hence the thermo-elastic expansion of both the journal and the sleeve can be considered, together with the mechanical deformations of the bearing.
