A novel intelligent patient call system based on surface electromyography recognition is proposed to improve the performance of existing call systems which have the issues of fixed location, inconvenient calling and lack of real-time monitoring. the system uses the STM32 as the main control chip. Firstly, the overall scheme of the call system is designed. Secondly, the hardware of the call system is designed, consisting of the surface electromyography recognition module, basic vital signs detection module, and ZigBee wireless information transmission module. then, the software process of the call system is designed. Finally, the experiment tests of the call system are carried out. the experiment results show that when using the point-to-point working mode, the data transmission success rate reaches 100% from the slave to the host, and when using the broadcast communication mode, the data transmission success rate is 95%, both of which meet the design specification requirements. the novel intelligent call system designed in this paper features straightforward calling operations. It can monitor the physical condition of the patients in real-time, and can transmit data to the control center wirelessly for analysis and processing, which can facilitate medical staff to grasp the condition of the patients in real-time. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

Lamella modules are the principal components of sedimentation tanks applied to water purification systems. the design of lamella modules determines the efficacy of the sedimentation process. this paper examines the efficacy of sedimentation tanks in the removal of solids suspended in wastewater within the pulp and paper industry. A comprehensive three-dimensional computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis was conducted to examine the influence of design parameters on the flow field and settleability of suspended particles in four distinct lamella module designs. the calculations were performed using the discrete phase model, which was supported by Ansys Fluent. therefore, it can be concluded that the high sedimentation efficiency of the Lamella module, which is designed with two layers, makes it a suitable treatment for the wastewater produced by the pulp and paper industry in particular, at high flow rates and with small particles. Based on these results, there are significant practical implications for the advancement of wastewater treatment technologies. © the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

this research paper introduces a perspective for the design of a power converter to test batteries and evaluate their performance under realistic operational conditions based on sinusoidal ripple current. A design of a mission profile emulator (MPE) is proposed to generate battery test scenarios by implementing signals from real-world applications, such as a Modular Multilevel Converter (MMC) or a single-phase inverter. the proposed MPE is based on a synchronous buck converter in conventional and interleaved versions. the proposal is validated through PLECS simulations and Hardware-in-the-Ioop (HIL) experiments. the research investigates the relationship between control bandwidth and harmonic tracking capability for emulation purposes. this analysis centers on optimizing the converter design and enhancing comprehension of the battery's behavior, particularly when the current exhibits sinusoidal components. HIL experiments explore four distinct scenarios, illustrating behavior in simple buck converter systems and demonstrating bandwidth extension and ripple reduction in interleaved systems. the study validates these findings by examining Total Harmonic Distortion (thD) and current ripple across various conditions. © 2023 IEEE.

Excavation face stability and controllable shield attitude are two core issues in slurry shield tunneling. Given the complex interactions between various control systems and their environment, achieving both face stability and controllable shield attitude simultaneously presents a significant challenge. Current methods, which rely entirely on human experience, pose potential risks to construction safety and quality. For this reason, we put forward the idea of coordinating the tuning shield control parameters based on reinforcement learning. After an in-depth analysis of the control system, we design a coordinated control algorithm based on Soft Actor-Critic reinforcement learning and establish a comprehensive evaluation index system for shield construction, which realizes the coordinated control of the tunneling working face pressure and the tunneling speed. Experimental results demonstrate that this model can offer practical and effective guidance for slurry shield tunneling construction, fulfilling the objective of coordinated control over settlement and controllable attitude parameters. © 2023 IEEE.

this article describes how the authors apply and implement teaching methods using design thinking approaches to train in IoT (Internet of things). the purpose of this study is to determine how well of design thinking with IoT topics to teachers and students, and how we could improve teaching or coaching strategies. Participants in this study are the researcher as the trainers, 20 to 30 teachers from different schools and 20 to 30 on each high school student (Grade 9 to Grade 12) as the trainee perform group projects. By collecting observations from trainee's activity outcome on each step of design thinking approach to deliver problem solving projects with IoT, the researcher applies narrative analysis to interpret patterns or characters on each activity. Each approach involved with activities which develop teachers or students to make their own learning and understanding problem and complete their IoT prototype projects within 4-5 days. Not only electronics devices and embedded systems and programming are used but also recycled materials. LEGO alike blocks are setup for learning activities corresponded to levels of students and available school resources. Different sets of learning activities in this article are adjusted attributable to education levels and individual school resources. From the analysis after the trainings, the conclusion shows how the researcher can improve by applying appropriate hardware/software in learning activities on different education levels and apply the design thinking more efficiently in teaching or coaching teachers and student in schools. © 2023 IEEE.

the development of future autonomous vehicles will become a challenging task, especially concerning the integration into a smart city context. Nowadays, vehicles must communicate with the surrounding environment to provide efficient driving features that prevent crashing and thus save passenger lives. However, the constant information exchange with the vicinity leads to growing attack surfaces of vehicles, which endangers the functional safety of vehicles in particular. Security-by-design seems to be a promising approach to overcoming security challenges and will become essential for the development of automotive architectures in the future. therefore, the standard ISO-21434 was invented providing guidelines on how to tackle cybersecurity in the automotive context. One proposed method by this standard is the threat analysis and Risk Assessment (TARA) process used for analyzing cybersecurity threats. Nevertheless, no tools or approaches exist that provide full automation of the TARA process from an ISO-21434 perspective. therefore, this paper proposes a concept to automate the TARA method by combining the security pattern engineering process with the Automotive Reference Architecture Model (ARAM) to enable a multi-layered security-by-design approach for the development of secure system-of-systems (SoS) architectures in conformity with ISO-21434. © 2023 University of Split, FESB.

Intelligent bridge maintenance is an important means to improve the efficiency and level of bridge maintenance work. this article proposes a knowledge graph based intelligent bridge maintenance method to address the problems of traditional bridge maintenance methods, such as strong subjectivity, low accuracy, and difficulty in information sharing. Based on technologies such as NLP and keyword feature matching, knowledge content retrieval and interactive Q&A in the graph are achieved. Decision support for intelligent diagnosis of bridge disease causes is achieved using machine learning algorithms. Realize intelligent management and sharing of bridge maintenance information. this method not only improves the efficiency and accuracy of bridge maintenance work, but also enables big data analysis and application of bridge maintenance information, providing strong support for the long-term safe operation of bridges. © 2023 IEEE.

A brand new concept of 'Corner Drive System, CDS' has been proposed by this conference paper, that is, a single-wheel module integrating wheel hub motor, wire control brake, wire control steering and semi-active suspension (SASS), which can realize its 'plug and play' function on the skateboard chassis. As an important link between the body and the road, the suspension system's configuration optimization design and control strategy are very critical. First, the configuration design is carried out. this paper conducts topological configuration design and optimization of the hard point coordinates of key components of SASS based on the kinematic principle and the quadratic optimization principle to complete its configuration design. Secondly, the control policy is designed. According to the principle of model predictive control (MPC), the paper came up with the control strategy to study the method of real-time control of the CDC vehicle damper to output the optimal damping force, so as to achieve the optimal control of the vertical vibration of SASS, thereby the driving smoothness of the vehicle receives significant ameliorate. Finally, the control strategy simulation verification is carried out. Based on a variety of typical driving conditions, the dynamic analysis of the SASS equipped with the MPC control strategy is carried out. the results reveal the consequence of uncontrolled and PID controlled groups, the MPC control strategy designed in this paper significantly improves the vertical vibration index of SASS. © 2024 IEEE.

the Generative Artificial Intelligence chatbots (GAI chatbots) have emerged as promising tools in various domains, including higher education, so this study aims to investigate the role of Bard, a newly developed GAI chatbot, in higher education. English tweets were collected from Twitter's free streaming Application Programming Interface (API). the Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) algorithm was applied to extract latent topics from the tweets. User sentiments were extracted using the NRC Affect Intensity Lexicon and SentiStrength tools. this study explored the benefits, challenges, and future implications of integrating GAI chatbots in higher education. the findings shed light on the potential power of such tools, exemplified by Bard, in enhancing the learning process and providing support to students throughout their educational journey. © 2023 IEEE.
