Monitoring our biosignals has become critical recently, especially since the COVID-19 pandemic. Although, due to a shortage of supplies, many do not have access to health kits. In the wake of progress and development in electronic devices available to the public in addition to increasing healthcare costs, resulting in the culmination of the e-health enterprise which is the integration of medical science with engineering theories and practices. the incorporation of technologies such as electronics and communications along with computer sciences combined with the healthcare industry inquired the possibilities to develop a system that utilizes all the available medical knowledge resources and produces accurate, reliable, affordable, and efficient healthcare services to not only aged people in need and patients with illness and disabilities but also to people working odd hours who lack time. this paper sheds light upon the existing techniques available for healthcare applications, and the benefits and importance of IoT-based medical systems and the benefits of IoT in healthcare are discussed. Our aim is to provide a systematic review of the latest research on IoT-based health care by reviewing this literature. the proposed project is to design and build an intelligent healthcare system that is based on IoT which functions by collecting the medical data of the patient from the multiple sensors and transmitting the data that has been processed and analyzed to both the patient and their doctor. Our approach introduces a novel method for assessing the difficulty of visual questions in Visual Question Answering (VQA) that does not depend on human annotations. Rather than using human-provided responses to real-world situations, as previous studies have done, we evaluate the performance of various VQA models to determine the level of question difficulty. We combine the predicted response distributions of three models: a baseline model that considers both images and questions, and two modified models that incorporate image and question inputs. We group visual questions in the VQA v2 validation set into clusters using k-means clustering and use advanced techniques to calculate accuracy and entropy values for each cluster. Each cluster corresponds to a specific level of visual question complexity, eliminating the need for explicit labeling of difficulty. Our approach effectively identifies clusters of challenging visual questions that even state-of-the-art tools struggle to answer. We conducted a thorough analysis of the VQA v2 dataset and found that all methods performed poorly on the most challenging cluster (with around 10% accuracy), and the accuracy of different models’ predictions diverged as the question difficulty increased. We also observed a strong correlation between entropy and accuracy values for each cluster. Our method can evaluate visual question complexity without depending on ground truth data. By clustering visual questions in the test set, we can inspire the development of new research approaches and techniques. © the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

A computational model is described to simulate the magma-driven formation of dike and sill structures. this analysis can provide a number of forensic insights into the stress conditions that may exist in deep level mining operations or in the extraction of oil or gas reserves within a specific geotechnical environment. the paper describes the numerical simulation of a vertically propagating dike sheet and the subsequent intersection and fluid branching of magma into a horizontal plane of weakness (sill). this study represents a preliminary exploration of the intersection problem using a uniform fixed grid mesh which allows some insights to be gained into the field stress conditions that control the dike propagation through the plane of weakness or which can lead to the deflection of the magma flow and subsequent sill structure formation. An approximate method is introduced to represent the crack tip opening shape assuming zero toughness at the dike edges. Some future extensions to an unstructured moving element mesh representation are noted.

the fatigue strength of the machined structure is significantly affected by the surface roughness because the surface topography creates the stress concentration in valleys of the surface topography. the surface roughness usually illustrates the micro-geometric appearance variation of the machined structure. the investigated surface indices are the average surface roughness, root-mean-square height, maximum peak height, maximum valley depth, and surface flatness. this paper applies the neural network to determine the most significant surface texture that is affected by the fatigue damage. the results show that the best NN model is the surface flatness model, with (up to) 87.5% accuracy.

Cable winding devices are becoming increasingly widely used in aerospace applications. In this study, a cable winding device consisting of a pulley set, a tension sen sor assembly, a buffer assembly, and a winch assembly is designed. the controlled tension loading of cables is achieved by combining cable winding devices with a controlled tension control system, which enables the loading of autonomously controllable tension on cables, equivalent to adding load to cables to simulate some special scenarios. the cable winding device realizes the real-time measurement of the cable tension through the tension-measuring component, and the stability of the tension-measuring component under the maximum load is investigated through finite element simulation of key components. In this paper, based on the design of the controlled tension control system, the experimental platform of the controlled tension control system is built. Firstly, the real-time loaded tension is regulated by feedback using the PID algorithm as the control strategy. then, the optimal PID control parameters are found through Simulink simulation, and feed-forward compensation control is introduced. Finally, controllable tension loading experiments are conducted on the cables to verify the performance and stability of the system.

Nonlinear Finite Element analysis (NLFEA) is currently available in many commercial programs. At the same time computing power has increased to the level that routine use of NLFEA for structural analysis became feasible. Structural concrete shows distinctly nonlinear behaviour and thus the available constitutive models, within FEA packages, include considerations for nonlinear material constitutive behaviour, damage, plasticity and concrete-reinforcement interactions. However, the results of FEA of concrete structures, depend on the choice of numerous modelling parameters making them susceptible to errors in assumptions, and dependent on decisions of the modeler regarding meshing, boundary conditions, and constitutive models for concrete. this paper presents a discussion of how to rationally approach NLFEA of structural concrete with the example of concrete slabs susceptible to punching shear failure. the analyses are done using the concrete damaged plasticity (CDP) model available in ABAQUS. the importance of rational choices of modelling parameters and the calibration of the FEA models based on experimental results is discussed. the paper shows specific examples where NLFEA was used to expand the existing experimental databases, perform detailed parametric studies and propose improvements in the design formulas available in the codes.

Intelligent bridge maintenance is an important means to improve the efficiency and level of bridge maintenance work. this article proposes a knowledge graph based intelligent bridge maintenance method to address the problems of traditional bridge maintenance methods, such as strong subjectivity, low accuracy, and difficulty in information sharing. Based on technologies such as NLP and keyword feature matching, knowledge content retrieval and interactive Q&A in the graph are achieved. Decision support for intelligent diagnosis of bridge disease causes is achieved using machine learning algorithms. Realize intelligent management and sharing of bridge maintenance information. this method not only improves the efficiency and accuracy of bridge maintenance work, but also enables big data analysis and application of bridge maintenance information, providing strong support for the long-term safe operation of bridges.

this paper presents an analytical formulation to complement considerable experimental and numerical programs conducted to propose a new timber-based retrofit technique for masonry walls. the formulation is based on the static analysis of an idealised structural scheme adopted in previous experimental tests, and it obtains the bending moment equation which predicts the maximum failure load and its location on both plain and retrofitted masonry walls. thereafter, the expected failure load in the masonry wall is analytically estimated from the moment of resistance of both the plain and retrofitted walls using ultimate section analysis. the results show that the analytical formulation correctly evaluated the capacity of both the plain and retrofitted masonry wall to within 5% variation. It thus concluded that the developed analytical model can be extended into more complex models and thus fit for a parametric analysis to analyse further the efficiency of the proposed timber masonry retrofit technique.

the city of Jakarta, including its 146.66 square kilometer South Jakarta district that serves as the administrative center, is preparing for the launch of 5G technology. this study aims to design a 5G New Radio (NR) network operating at 2.3 GHz with a 100 MHz bandwidth. the goal is to estimate the required gNodeB units that telecommunications operators must deploy to provide 5G services, leveraging existing 4G infrastructure. Network capacity projections for 2025 are used to calculate the gNodeB units needed. the findings demonstrate that implementing an Open Radio Access Network (Open RAN) for 5G necessitates a total of 389 gNodeB units. the Open RAN architecture also requires 9 Centralized Units (CU) and 130 Distributed Units (DU) to meet capacity demands. Open RAN can effectively utilize the 389 gNodeB units by dividing the Baseband Unit (BBU) function, thus providing the necessary midhaul and backhaul connectivity. Compared to a traditional RAN, Open RAN delivers these capabilities with a 38.30% reduction in Capital Expenditures (CAPEX). In summary, Open RAN's centralized, cloud-based architecture unlocks 5G network scalability in Jakarta in a cost-effective manner. © 2023 IEEE.

Research on follow-current interruption characteristics of gas discharge tube and protective measures

If the follow-current interruption time of gas discharge tube is too long, it will lead to short circuit trip of equipment, even breakdown and damage. In order to mitigate the phenomenon and propose corresponding protective measures, the follow-current interruption characteristics of gas discharge tube are studied under different power frequency voltage amplitude and lightning phase polarity in this paper. Required by international standard IEC61000-4-5, the 1.2/50 mu s and 8/20 mu s lightning surge combination waves are used to conduct impulse test on gas discharge tube. For the most rigorous experimental results, the method of series connection with varistor is used in order to suppress the follow-current phenomenon of gas discharge tube. through the analysis of the experimental results, it is found that: the initial rising rate of voltage and follow-current interruption time are positively correlated with the power frequency voltage amplitude;the initial rising rate of voltage and follow-current interruption time increase in the first half cycle and decrease in the latter half cycle with the increase of the lightning pulse phase in each half power frequency cycle;the initial polarity of the follow-current glow voltage is consistent with the polarity of the lightning pulse, and the initial polarity of the follow-current arc voltage is consistent with the polarity of the power frequency period of the pulse;it can effectively suppress the follow-current phenomenon and reduce the residual voltage that using gas discharge tube in series with varistor whose voltage is less than its direct-current breakdown voltage. the conclusion of this paper has a certain guiding role for the parameter selection of gas discharge tube.
