this paper delves into a comprehensive analysis of fault-tolerant memory systems, focusing on recovery techniques modelled using Markov chains to address transient errors. the study revolves around the application of scrubbing methods in conjunction with Single Error Correction and Double Error Detection (SEC-DED) codes. It explores three primary models: 1) Exponentially distributed scrubbing, involving periodic checks of memory words within exponentially distributed time intervals;2) Deterministic scrubbing, featuring regular, periodic word checks;and 3) Mixed scrubbing, which combines both probabilistic and deterministic scrubbing approaches. the research encompasses the estimation of reliability and Mean Time to Failure (MTTF) values for each model. Notably, the findings highlight the superior performance of mixed scrubbing over simpler scrubbing methods in terms of reliability and MTTF. © 2023 IEEE.

the surge in renewable integration and escalating loads has posed significant challenges for distribution system operators (DSOs), resulting in increased congestion within distribution networks (DNs). this paper aims to analyze the impact of the new legal procedure to manage congestion in the Netherlands and optimize grid utilization for connecting new customers. Based on the comprehensive analysis, two optimization problems are formulated to address these challenges. Firstly, consumers share their demand forecasts with DSOs, who analyze the data to identify congestion points. In response to congestion, the DSOs employ the first optimization problem to optimize non-firm capacity limits, minimizing the cost of load curtailment. Subsequently, a second optimization problem is formulated to maximize grid utilization for connecting new customers. this problem identifies optimal loads that can be connected to each node in the DN. To solve these optimization problems, a hybrid genetic and pattern search algorithm is employed. the effectiveness of the proposed framework is evaluated using the IEEE 33-node test feeder. the results demonstrate a reduction in congestion and maximized grid utilization achieved by connecting new loads at each node of the DN. © 2024 IEEE.

this paper addresses the metal detection problem in wireless charging automation systems and investigates the detection probe structure by means of an external foreign object detection method. Typical core structures were compared in terms of magnetic field distribution, magnetic field direction, etc. Based on the results of the comparative analysis, the core structure and winding method with certain advantages are selected. this method can realize the reasonable configuration of the external detection probe of the wireless charging guide plate, which provides an important basis for the design and trial production of the subsequent inspection system. © 2023 IEEE.

It is widely recognized that hydrogen can play an important role in the decarbonization of sectors where emissions are hard to abate such as the mobility sector. the widespread use of hydrogen-based mobility technologies requires the development of hydrogen distribution infrastructures, the scale-up of which is crucial for planning their distribution across an area. In this context, the goal of this study is to evaluate the current European refueling infrastructure and its ability to meet the increasing hydrogen mobility demand, as well as to provide a preliminary design of small, medium, and large-size hydrogen refueling stations (HRSs) basing on estimates of daily demands of hydrogen passenger cars. Starting from the total number of registered hydrogen passenger cars in Europe in 2022 and taking into account the extension of the European Central Road, the number of HRSs (related to different sizes), needed to refuel the road-going vehicles, is evaluated. For a more comprehensive analysis, results are compared with the current European infrastructure of HRSs. To accomplish this, the HRSs size, for each considered scenario, is designed according to a cascade storage system, considering the refueling of cars with a tank capacity of 5 kgH2 at 700 bar and assuming a working time of 6 h/day per HRS. © 2024 IEEE.

Cyber security threats to power systems are constantly evolving, and traditional security protection means are difficult to cope with new and complex attacks. this paper proposes a global situational awareness system for IT terminals based on artificial intelligence, which realizes real-time monitoring and early warning of IT terminals and networks through intelligent analysis and active defense. the system adopts a global data collection method to comprehensively monitor user operational behavior and network traffic through a user behavior data collection tool based on browser plug-ins and a network traffic collection tool based on agent software. To address the issues of user operational behavior deviation and network traffic security, the system introduces a user behavior analysis model based on graph matching algorithm and a network security situational awareness model, which can effectively identify abnormal user behavior and potential risks of the power grid, and significantly improve the system response capability. the system has been applied in the power grid industry and has shown excellent protection effects in the complex and changing network environment. © 2024 Copyright held by the owner/author(s).

this paper presents a novel approach for creating real-time, secure and interactable Digital Twins of industrial robots. this approach diverges from previous approaches that relied on Digital Twin Definition Language (DTDL). the proposed method uses Robotics Operating systems (ROS) and the Unity Game Engine to build the Digital Twins. the prototype built to showcase this approach comprises 4 sub-systems namely Data Acquisition sub-system, Cloud sub-system, Digital Client subsystem, and Remote-Control sub-system. the methodology focuses on real-time data synchronization using cloud-based communication services like IoT servers. there are also multiple security measures employed to secure the data- like passing data through proxy and end-to-end encryption of data. the prototype made using Niryo Ned 2 Robot and a Raspberry Pi 3b+ showcases accurate physical-Digital Twin and effective remote control. Key findings highlight the system's ability to overcome latency, security and data accuracy, which in turn helps improve human-robot collaboration and interactions. this research contributes to the Digital Twin field by providing a modular and scalable framework that can be adapted for various robots and systems. this paper not only provides the general idea for implementation and problems faced during development but also suggests pathways for future work, like - optimization of message rates, integration of machine learning for maintenance and other purposes.

this research introduces a new approach to radon detection in homes utilizing Decision Trees (DTs) enabled by the cloud in real-time. High radon levels, a natural radioactive gas, are dangerous to human health. Quick evaluation and mitigation efforts are hindered by the long processes required by traditional detection systems. Using DTs, a machine learning methodology, the proposed method sorts of radon levels according to variables, including building materials, ventilation systems, and geographic location. these trees may handle both numerical and categorical data and provide interpretability. Fast processing of massive data sets and real-time analysis across varied residential areas are made possible by integrating cloud computing, increasing efficiency and scalability. Stakeholders may remotely access crucial information due to the solution's accessibility and flexibility. Results from controlled experiments demonstrate that this method can accurately identify radon levels in the air in real time, allowing for preventative actions to lessen potential health hazards. People living in areas prone to radon may benefit from this practice in terms of their health. © 2024 IEEE.

Addressing greenhouse gas emissions and climate change is vital for global sustainability. Decarbonizing energy systems and shifting to cleaner sources require significant investments. Energy distribution is moving towards decentralized models with small to medium-sized plants. Local energy communities enhance efficiency and aid the transition, as defined by the Renewable Energy Directive. Implemented in Italy in 2020, it regulates Energy Communities, dependent on local renewable resources and willingness to share electricity production. this work aims to identify a preliminary design of a Carbon Neutral Energy Hub (EH). To accomplish this, a methodology is proposed as a first step for the creation of a Digital Twin of the real scenario. For this purpose, a dynamic model will be constructed to assess the viability of renewable energy production and the energy requirements of the test sites, aiming to evaluate the comprehensive energy equilibrium. this analysis lays a solid foundation for political decisions concerning energy in different areas, including the potential establishment of a Renewable Energy Community program. In this paper, a case study is presented on the Italian territory. Achieving a balance between production, imports, and energy exports is crucial to ensure the reliability and sustainability of the energy supply, consequently reducing emissions of climate-altering gases. © 2024 IEEE.
