In order to investigate the part clearance leakage flow field through a variable area nozzle turbine (VANT), an experimental setup of the annular sector cascade (ASC) with eight numbers of passages is being developed. the second stage low-pressure turbine stator from Energy Efficient Engine proposed by Pratt and Whitney was selected and modified for the VANT concept. the intermediate turbine duct (ITD) - connecting the high-pressure turbine with the low- pressure turbine was inevitable to be incorporated between the wind tunnel and ASC test section for the following reasons: a) ITD will ensure the geometric continuity on the hub and casing end-walls, and b) it will provide realistic entry flow field with radial pressure gradient. the diverging shape of the ITD with continuously increasing mean radius imposes a major challenge to achieving the required inlet flow angle with periodicity at the entry of the ASC. Hence, the present study focuses on the challenging work of modifying the existing annular ITD to achieve the required inlet flow for ASC. the various geometries of the ITD, including different flow control methods, were numerically analyzed using commercial software ANSYS CFX (R). the flow field of the numerical simulations at multiple locations was analyzed using flow angle and its distribution, velocity streamlines, static pressure recovery coefficient, and total pressure loss coefficient. It was found that the IGVs direct the flow through the ITD, and approximately the required flow condition with periodicity was achieved at the entry of the test vane cascade. As an active flow control method, an opening slot was modelled on the casing end- wall at the upstream region of the test vane cascade. However, the numerical analysis shows an adverse effect on the flow angle distribution at the entry of the cascade. the change in axial spacing between IGVs and the test vane cascade shows a negligible effect on the cascade entry flow field.

As one of the causes of system vibration and noise, pressure impact is always undesired. analysis of pressure impact characteristics of a hydraulic position servo system based on a two-stage series servo valve is carried out to reduce the system impact. the influence of factors such as system flow rate, additional servo valve opening gain, external load, and system overflow pressure on the system pressure impact is analyzed. the results show that the series servo valve scheme can bring down the peak impact pressure at the inlet of the hydraulic cylinder by 8%~11% when the system flow rate or overflow pressure is low to a certain extent. In most other cases, the suppression effect of the impact peak pressure is unapparent. the impact pressure overshoot is always decreased accompanied by an easier trend to overflow for the system. At last, another new idea of application promotion with higher reliability and adaptability is proposed. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Cancer is a group of diseases with similar symptoms, all involving uncontrolled growth and reproduction of cells. With around 8 million deaths each year, it is the second leading cause of death worldwide in developing countries and the first in the developed world. In contemporary medicine, early cancer diagnosis for every known type is essential. Machine learning has the potential to completely transform the process and increase the number of lives saved. In order to make predictions, computers develop complex data models and search for patterns. Early cancer diagnosis could undergo a revolution because of machine learning. this research's goal is to outline the issue surrounding cancer diagnoses in patients and all the difficulties they experience. Asuitable strategy will be to model the risk of cancer and patient outcomes given the growing trend of employing machine learning technics in cancer research. Aspecific model has been developed that, if applied appropriately, can reduce the number of lost lives and, at the same time, increase the number of individuals capable of coping with this disease. the results indicate that the created model can be used by professionals to identify lung cancer with efficiency. If the prediction is accurate, the doctor may be able to develop a better treatment plan and provide the patient with an early diagnosis. the study's findings show that the number of patients has been rising recently, yet early detection is crucial because it can help avert serious complications.

Successive Approximation Register (SAR) Analog-to-Digital Converters (ADCs) are widely employed in low-power applications due to their high energy efficiency and moderate-speed operations. Among the key building blocks of SAR ADCs, the comparator plays a crucial role in determining the conversion accuracy, decision speed, and overall power consumption. Since the comparator is a major contributor to power dissipation, optimizing its design is essential for improving the energy efficiency of SAR ADCs. this paper presents a comparative analysis of different architectures used in SAR ADCs, evaluating their power consumption to determine the most energy-efficient design. the results of this study provide valuable insights for designing low-power SAR ADCs, with implications for energy-constrained applications such as IoT devices, biomedical sensors, and energy-efficient embedded systems.

the ongoing fourth industrial revolution, also known as Industry 4.0, was first introduced in 2011 at the Hannover Fair in Germany. Nowadays, such paradigm still represents a hot topic in the field of industrial engineering, with the aim to boot a radical transformation of the companies through the implementation of a set of new concepts and technologies, as Internet of things (IoT), Augmented Reality (AR) and Big Data Analytics. Globally, companies all over the world expect to experience relevant benefits by implementing such emerging principles in terms of technical, economic, environmental and ergonomic performances. After providing a structured definition of the Industry 4.0 and a classification and description of its main enabling technologies, the aim of this paper is to perform a critical assessment about the Industry 4.0 principles implementation focusing on the three main transport sectors: automotive, aeronautical and railway, highlighting the most widespread technologies and the developed applications. the present paper provides valuable knowledge to support researchers and business practitioners in understanding the current implementation level of Industry 4.0 principles in the aforementioned sectors, supporting them in identifying the most compelling goals to be achieved in the near future.

the bond and friction of the interface between concrete slab and steel beam can affect the shear force values of the shear studs widely-used in steel-concrete composite bridge structures. the complex bond-slip relationships of the interface make the nonlinear finite element analysis become difficult. In this paper, computer aided method was proposed for the analysis of steel-concrete composite bridge with interfacial bonding and friction considered. A new type of cohesive zone model with the cementing bond and friction included is applied to simulate the complex interfacial behavior between concrete slab and steel beam. Cohesive interface element was then developed through the user subroutine in ABAQUS software. then a continuous steel-concrete composite beam bridge model was analyzed with the proposed method. Load-deflection relationships of the steel-concrete composite structure, interfacial slips, interfacial shear stresses, and shear force of shear connectors were investigated. Results showed that the bond and friction of the interface between concrete slab and steel beam can affect the shear force distributions of the shear connectors. Numerical analysis method proposed in this study can be used for the analysis and evaluation of the shear connectors used for steel-concrete composite bridge structures. Results of this study can be further applied to intelligent testing and monitoring. It can provide theoretical support for the data analysis of intelligent infrastructure operation and maintenance.

With the development of highly swift urban transportation systems, the underground tunnel of suburban railway often needs to pass beneath the basements of large scale residential developments. the large-diameter tunnel (approx. 14 m span) of the 160 km/hr limit high speed suburban railway is required to be more than 8 m far away vertically beneath the basement raft, and the horizontal distance between the tunnel and the adjacent basement side wall has to be more than 10 m to avoid mutual disturbance. the above distance requirements result in large-span basement rafts above the railway tunnel (approx. 36 m span). In this paper, life cycle multi-state analysis and design studies are carried out considering the various internal force states, such as pressure bearing and anti-floating, that may occur in the construction and service stage of the large-span basement rafts above the underground line of to-be-constructed high speed railways. Taking a large residential community above the underground tunnel of suburban high speed railway in Shanghai city as an example, the load cases, soil and water conditions corresponding to various states were formulated, and the multi-performance design criteria corresponding to each short-term and long-term state were enacted. the controlling design states and corresponding controlling constraints of the raft schemes with different thicknesses are analyzed, and the redundancy data of the design indicators of the raft with different thickness are compared. Finally, the optimal design scheme of the long-span raft for the study case is given by comprehensively considering costs, practicability and construction convenience, which provides an beneficial example for efficient and reasonable life cycle multi-state analysis and design of similar projects. © the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

Safe disposal of coal ash slurry is a primary concern of the environment owing to the bulk generation of ash in industries, especially in any developing country. Generally, it is observed that the generated coal ash waste is disposed of into the ash ponds as slurry. Ash dyke breaches may inundate the surrounding area with toxic ash slurry, thus inducing a high environmental hazard. this article presents a study on the slope stability of ash dyke structures for different geometries, which may be constructed of various materials and are subjected to varied seepage conditions. the present analysis compares different dyke erection methodologies, namely the upstream method, centreline method and downstream method. Numerical analysis is performed using Geostudio Slope/w software. the study found that ash dyke safety increases when the dyke structures are designed with adequate drainage. Further, from this study, it can be concluded that the dyke stability not only depends on the geotechnical properties of the ash material used in its construction but also on the design of the dyke, the method of erection and the seepage through the dyke. © 2023 the Authors.

Measurement while drilling (MWD) can accurately and quickly obtain high-resolution information from the borehole to characterize the highly variable rock encountered during underground engineering excavation. However, the characterization of rock mass characteristics by different MWD parameters does not tend to be consistent, which needs further study. Based on the Xishuangbanna Tunnel Project of Yumo Railway, this paper collected a large number of measurement while drilling data in the tunnel. the MWD parameters are integrated into the first principal component by using the principal component analysis method;the relationship between the first principal component and rock mass characteristics is established and the following conclusions are drawn: (1) For the same drill, the drilling parameters monitored are not independent, but highly correlated. the first principal component analysis method proposed can correctly explain the response of drilling parameters to rocks;(2) In granite formation, when drilling into broken rock mass, the drilling rate will be increased or sharply increased in varying degrees, and the drilling pressure and rotary pressure will be temporarily reduced. the proposed principal component analysis method based on measurement while drilling parameters can realize fast and accurate characterization of rock mass characteristics, providing a design basis for tunnel excavation and support.

Since the Covid-19 pandemic was first confirmed on March 2, 2020, Indonesia has faced many crises, one of which is the economic crisis. Many companies lose profits and impose layoffs for their workers. the Indonesian government in its efforts to restore the economy in Indonesia carried out several maneuvers such as eliminating the PCR/SWAB requirement for public transportation users and increasing tourism enthusiasm in Indonesia by organizing the Mandalika MotoGP. However, this is considered insufficient by some groups of people because the prices of primary needs continue to increase. this study aims to find out public sentiment towards the government for efforts to restore the economy in Indonesia. the results of this study indicate that the Indonesian government is considered successful and has taken the right steps in efforts to recover the economy in Indonesia. this is evidenced by the high percentage margin between positive and negative sentiments of 37%. © 2022 IEEE.
