Cavitation may occur in the runner bucket of the Pelton turbine, which could lead to cavitation erosion on the bucket surface. In this paper, three types of bucket were selected to carry out transient multiphase flow simulation at the same operating point of a model Pelton turbine. the hydraulic performance and cavitation characteristics of different buckets were analysed. the 3 bucket models were developed for Pelton turbines operating under the middle-high and the high-water head range, respectively. Results showed that the participation of cavitation model in simulation would slightly affect the working process of the bucket. the cavitation on the front surface of three buckets all happened at the beginning stage of jet inflowing the bucket, among which bucket C had the most serious cavitation on the front surface. this work showed different cavitation characteristics among various types of bucket, and the relevant result suggested comprehensive design considering cavitation characteristics should be done on the front surface of the bucket for a specific range of water head. © 2024 Institute of Physics Publishing. We review towards zero and zero carbon remote community energy systems using wind and solar electricity generation combined with battery and thermal energy storage systems. systems are modelled in the context of the Xeni Gwet’in First Nation Community located in the Nemiah Valley in British Columbia, Canada. the community has a population of 200 residents, most of whom are connected to the local microgrid. the goal of this research was to (1) investigate how low-cost thermal energy storage impacts the levelized cost of energy of these systems, and (2) assess the sensitivity of unmet energy capacity of the system at varying storage costs. Electrical and thermal load profiles for the community were developed and determined to average a combined annual load of 2 GWh with a peak of 900 kW. A model of the proposed system was built in HOMER Pro® and sensitivity analysis of PV, wind, and hybridized energy storage costs was conducted. Results indicate that as wind and PV costs are projected to decrease, minimizing the levelized cost of energy of the energy system is less dependent on thermal energy storage cost.; this correlation decreases as unmet capacity increases. Moreover, the analysis suggests that these systems yield greater than 70% curtailment of solar and wind energy, regardless of energy storage costs.

Based on the machinery industry characteristic background of school of mechanical and electrical engineering in Wuhan University of technology, combined with the use of industrial engineering experiment resources in Wuhan University of technology and related brother colleges, this paper analyzes the current situation and problems of experiment resource sharing, and studies the utilization efficiency of industrial engineering experiment resources at home and abroad. Using expert analysis, data mining, intelligent optimization operation and other methods, the reasons for this phenomenon were analyzed. Discusses on how to use programming language to develop and build a web-based industrial engineering experiment resource sharing management system. the following whole process management from the open experimental design, process control, experimental effect, experimental resource life and other processes of industrial engineering was carried out, in order to optimize the allocation of industrial engineering experiment resources sharing, and make full use of different experimental resources. Improved utilization rate of industrial engineering experimental resources would thus be obtained, so as to further adapt to the requirements of cultivating high-quality compound new engineering talents with strong engineering practice ability, strong innovation ability and international competitiveness. © 2022 IEEE.

Since the Covid-19 pandemic was first confirmed on March 2, 2020, Indonesia has faced many crises, one of which is the economic crisis. Many companies lose profits and impose layoffs for their workers. the Indonesian government in its efforts to restore the economy in Indonesia carried out several maneuvers such as eliminating the PCR/SWAB requirement for public transportation users and increasing tourism enthusiasm in Indonesia by organizing the Mandalika MotoGP. However, this is considered insufficient by some groups of people because the prices of primary needs continue to increase. this study aims to find out public sentiment towards the government for efforts to restore the economy in Indonesia. the results of this study indicate that the Indonesian government is considered successful and has taken the right steps in efforts to recover the economy in Indonesia. this is evidenced by the high percentage margin between positive and negative sentiments of 37%. © 2022 IEEE.

Safe disposal of coal ash slurry is a primary concern of the environment owing to the bulk generation of ash in industries, especially in any developing country. Generally, it is observed that the generated coal ash waste is disposed of into the ash ponds as slurry. Ash dyke breaches may inundate the surrounding area with toxic ash slurry, thus inducing a high environmental hazard. this article presents a study on the slope stability of ash dyke structures for different geometries, which may be constructed of various materials and are subjected to varied seepage conditions. the present analysis compares different dyke erection methodologies, namely the upstream method, centreline method and downstream method. Numerical analysis is performed using Geostudio Slope/w software. the study found that ash dyke safety increases when the dyke structures are designed with adequate drainage. Further, from this study, it can be concluded that the dyke stability not only depends on the geotechnical properties of the ash material used in its construction but also on the design of the dyke, the method of erection and the seepage through the dyke. © 2023 the Authors.

the shape memory alloy (SMA) actuator comprising SMA wire and kapton polyimide was fabricated. the actuation characteristics were analyzed using the open-loop programmable power supply. the maximum displacement at different parameters was analyzed. the actuator showed a two-way shape memory effect during analysis without the tedious process of training. Two different diameters of wire were used during the actuator fabrication. the composition analysis of two different diameter wires revealed that there is a slight variation in composition percentage. the differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) analysis showed the austenite transformation temperature for both the diameter wire (0.5 mm and 300 µm) lies in between 70–80 ℃ temperature range. the actuator of dimension 7 × 2 cm2 showed a maximum displacement of 3 cm and 5 × 2 cm2 reached a maximum displacement of 1.2 cm for 300 µm SMA wire. © 2023, the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

With the increasing demand for fast and dependable wireless communication, 5G technology has emerged as a highly promising solution. this study addresses the critical objective of enhancing gain and bandwidth performance in 5G wireless communication systems, with particular emphasis on utilizing Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) techniques. To achieve our objective, we propose an optimized 2 × 1 microstrip antenna array design tailored for 5G applications operating in the FR1 frequency range. the antenna array consists of rectangular patch microstrip antennas, with each element measuring 9.6 mm × 13 mm. For accurate simulation and analysis, we employ the HFSS software at a frequency of 6.8 GHz. the selected substrate material is F R4, known for its favorable characteristics, including a relative permittivity (ϵef f) of 4.4. Our main goal is to leverage the advantages provided by the proposed design of the antenna array to enhance both gain and bandwidth. By doing so, we aim to optimize the performance of 5G wireless communication systems. the antenna array showcases a significant gain improvement of 6 dB, resulting in expanded bandwidth at 540 MHz. these enhancements are essential for achieving superior coverage, increased data rates, and improved overall system efficiency in the demanding 5G environment. © the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

Understanding the performance characteristics of software systems is particular relevant when looking at design alternatives. However, it is a very challenging problem, due to the complexity of interpreting the role and incidence of the different system elements on performance metrics of interest, such as system response time or resources utilisation. this work introduces JSIMutate, a tool that makes use of queueing network performance models and enables the analysis of mutations of a model reflecting possible design changes to support designers in identifying the model elements that contribute to improving or worsening the system's performance.
