the critical slenderness ratio of concrete columns reinforced using fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) bars in ACI 440.1R is based on a deterministic approach and a failure criterion of 5% drop in axial capacity. there is an urging need to quantify the safety associated with the recommended slenderness ratio for the purpose of optimizing the design of FRP reinforced columns. A research program developed by the authors is currently underway to develop a novel reliability-based approach to recommend slenderness ratios for possible inclusion in ACI 440.1R. In the proposed approach, recommended slenderness ratios are formulated based on achieving a predefined target reliability index as opposed to the current deterministic approach of setting a failure criterion of 5% drop in axial capacity. the approach is aligned with the general philosophy of limit state design adopted by North American codes and standards in which failure limit states are established based on reliability principles and not deterministically. In this paper, some aspects of the proposed approach are described while limited preliminary analysis results are included. the preliminary results showed a range of 3.59–3.95 reliability indices for slenderness ratios ranging between 17 and 22 based on the limited parameters considered in this study. Considerable future research is needed to complete the proposed approach and bring it to a level suitable for application in calibrating code slenderness ratio limits. © 2023, Canadian Society for Civil engineering.

Based on the shield tunnel engineering in weathered granite stratum in Xiamen, Stochastic calculations, by combining the random field theory and the finite difference analysis together with Monte Carlo simulation, are used to carry out the change law of the characteristics of surface deformation curve and surface deformation model. Results show that with the increase of the vertical scales of fluctuation, the decrease of the transverse scales of fluctuation or the increase of the coefficient of variation, the low peak distribution characteristics of the location of the maximum surface settlement induced by shield tunneling become more obvious, and the randomness and chaos of the shape of surface deformation curve gradually increase. the diversity of surface deformation model is affected by parameter correlation and randomness. Under the condition of small transverse scales of fluctuation and large vertical scales of fluctuation, the sensitivity of coefficient of variation to surface deformation mode is limited.

Identification of bottlenecks is a challenge for researchers to detect and deal with as soon as possible so as not to affect the implementation of business processes in the actual situation. the complexity of business processes can make it difficult for analysts to identify bottlenecks in a business process. Process mining is a technique to detect bottlenecks using event logs. However, many studies still use event logs from the system resource activities. therefore, identification cannot be made before implementation. the researcher proposes bottleneck detection using the Discrete Event Simulation (DES) hierarchical process model. the hierarchical process model is divided into Top-level and Bottom-level process models. DES is used to simulate a hierarchical process model that can generate event logs. the event log was analyzed using ProM with the Inductive Miner method and performance analysis. this research indicates that activities that occur bottlenecks at the Top-level can represent a group of activities that occur bottlenecks at the Bottom-level. therefore, the bottleneck identification results in the hierarchical process model can provide an overview of bottlenecks in general (Top-level) and specifically (Bottom-level). © 2022 IEEE.

the energy need is highly expanding day by day. this offers substitute energy resources. Renewable energy is an example of numerous powerful solutions in facing the growing energy need. It supports decreasing global carbon emissions, and whereby reduces contradictory results on the environment. It additionally decreases the pressure on the grid and the requirement for fossil fuels. Solar energy is a developing portion of our energy production mix, and it will perform a crucial purpose in the eternity of energy production. Generating energy with solar energy has an extensive influence beyond fossil fuels and has been discovered cost-effective. Grid-Connected Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Rooftop system supports power into the grid and produces power from the PV modules to satisfy their private demands. the residential sector meets an energy crisis because of load shedding in the grid. this paper manifests the optimal configuration and economic aspects of Grid-Connected Solar PV) Rooftop system configuration for 900 VA households;a comparative study is also made for an on-grid PV system. For the PV system's recommended optimum design, the HOMER (Hybrid Optimization of Multiple Electric Renewable) software tool is utilized. © 2022 IEEE.

To solve the cost loss caused by the low recovery efficiency of pipe pile residual slurry, as well as the pollution of the environment during discharge, a control system of pipe pile residual slurry recovery equipment is designed. the equipment is controlled by PLC (Programmable Logic Controller), aiming at the problem that the traditional PID (Proportion Integration Differentiation) cannot modify the parameters in real time to meet the accuracy requirements of the residual slurry density. the fuzzy PID controller algorithm is proposed, and the simulation analysis is carried out by MATLAB at the same time. through PLC selection, PLC I/O allocation, electronic control system design, program writing, and HMI (Human Machine Interface) establishment, the information interaction is achieved between equipment and people while monitoring the production process. through on-site production tests, the equipment is proved to be reliable and efficient, which can make the residual slurry recovery utilization rate reach more than 90%, and reduce the production cost of pipe piles. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Artilleries are crucial in the defense of national interests. the barrels of these guns must be able to withstand very high pressure (propellant gas pressure) and it would require a very thick barrel. While a larger barrel thickness would result in a heavier barrel, for the reasons of mobility and economy, a gun barrel should be as light as practically possible. While it is possible to reduce the weight of the gun barrel by going for prestressing either by considering the compound gun barrel or by autofrettage of the barrel, it is also possible to reduce the weight of the barrel by choosing appropriate lightweight and thermally stable metal matrix composite as the material of the barrel. In this paper, a monobloc 122 mm bore gun barrel having a large weight of 1050 kg is considered to be redesigned, to reduce its weight for the sake of better mobility. Two alternate designs are considered. In the first design, a 50% thickness of the monobloc gun barrel, from the outside, is replaced by the lightweight fiber-reinforced titanium matrix composite laminate that has resulted in the saving (reduction) in weight of 54.3%. In the second design, the inside steel core is made of shrink-fitted compound barrel, and on the outside of which a fiber-reinforced titanium matrix composite laminate jacket is considered. this has resulted in a saving (reduction) in weight of 63%. Symmetric laminate [02/-602/02/602/02] s is considered for the composite laminate, and the Tsai–Hill failure criterion is applied to check the induced stress on each of the laminate. © 2023, the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

this study aims to design an assessment instrument to assess students' cognition in computer networking lessons. the design and design of the test instrument followed the ADDIE model, from the analysis stage to determine student targets and characteristics, then the design stage, determining learning objectives, learning material design, and question grids, at this stage the number of Subject Matter Experts (SME) was also determined as many as 6 people, for 6 Subject Matter Experts (SME), the minimum acceptable Content Validation Ratio (CVR) is 0.99, while the Content Validation Index (CVI) is 0.83. At the development stage, 81 items were designed as a draft assessment instrument. At the implementation stage, the Subject Matter Experts (SME) assessed each item on the draft assessment instrument. this study uses a quantitative content validity approach from the Lawshe model with a 3-point scale as follows: essential, useful but not necessary, and non-essential. Each Subject Matter Expert (SME) was given an instrument to assess each item in the test instrument. the Subject Matter Expert (SME) will determine whether an important question is given, normal or normal, or whether the question is not important given to students. At the evaluation stage, the Subject Matter Expert (SME) assessment of the draft test instrument will be compiled and the Content Validation Ratio (CVR) value and the Content Validation Index (CVI) value calculated to determine content validity. © 2022 IEEE.

the distribution characteristics and evolution law of initial in-situ stress field in deep tunnel are the important basis for the stability analysis of surrounding rock and the design of support and reinforcement scheme. Taking a deep-buried high geostress diversion tunnel as the study object, this study used the hydraulic fracturing method to measure the geostress and explore the distribution law of the geostress field in the deep-buried diversion tunnel area. Based on the measured data, we constructed a geological model of the tunnel area, and employed the finite element regression calculation analysis theory to run the initial inversion calculation of the geostress field in the deep-buried diversion tunnel area. the results showed that the average stress at the tunnel axis was around 23 MPa, and the maximum horizontal principal stress was 46.32 MPa, which belongs to a high geostress tunnel. the triaxial principal stresses can be ordered as sigma H>sigma z>sigma h, indicating that the initial geostress field was a sigma Hz type and dominated by the horizontal tectonic stress. the difference between the maximum and minimum principal stresses at the tunnel axis was significant. According to the Mohr-Coulomb criterion, there is large shear stress at the critical surface of the tunnel excavation, which is likely to cause rock explosions in the tunnel. the inversion results of the initial geostress field were basically consistent with the measured results. therefore, this study can provide a theoretical basis for the characterization of the geostress field in similar deep-buried high geostress tunnel projects, as well as the design and construction of the cavern.

Implementation of natural ventilation as a method of air supply and cooling of a building has the potential of reducing the amount of energy that must be consumed to serve this purpose by traditional mechanical devices. the optimization of this method is heavily influenced by the decisions taken during the initial design phase of a building project. through building performance simulation, the selection of parameters and the design decisions are more asserted to an optimal goal performance, however, methods such as sensitivity and correlation analyses provide a deeper understanding of the interactions that many of these parameters have between each other and with the expected output of the simulation. therefore, the present research combined both methods to identify the most significant variables and parameters involved in the thermal dynamics of a naturally ventilated single-story building under the climate conditions of Panama City, Panama. Results showed that combining these two approaches opens the possibility of developing a sufficient analysis regarding the influence that many secondary parameters have on the most influential ones over the output performance, therefore strategic changes can be elaborated furtherly.

In this paper, through the statistics of Yalong River Basin environmental climate data in the past 30 years. Firstly, the statistical method of the number of freeze-thaw times was determined;secondly, the research was carried out from the temperature, solar irradiation, elevation and cooling rate, and the influence on the annual average number of freeze-thaw cycles in the basin was analyzed one by one, and it was found that there was a good correlation between the temperature, solar irradiation and elevation and the number of freeze-thaw cycles;finally, the average atmosphere temperature of the coldest month and the average irradiation of the unit elevation were selected for regression analysis, and the quantitative model of the number of freeze-thaw cycles in the basin was obtained. Finally, the average atmosphere temperature of the coldest month and irradiance per unit elevation were selected for regression analysis, and a quantitative model of the freeze-thaw cycle in this basin was obtained, which is more practical and has higher prediction accuracy than the traditional model, and can better guide the design of concrete engineering in Yalong River basin. © 2023 the Authors.
