this paper presents the development of a soft robot for finger rehabilitation driven by a dielectric elastomer (DE) air pump. the focus is on patients with stroke-induced loss of hand movement function, who require specific rehabilitation training. the working mechanism of the DE air pump is thoroughly explained. A FE simulation of DE film under prestretching using ABAQUS is conducted, and the mechanical behavior of DE under biaxial and equiaxial stretching is obtained. the study also includes transient dynamic analyses of the DE film, including modal analysis and harmonic response analysis, which demonstrate favorable mechanical properties at the simulation level. Performance experiments of the end effector validate that the developed soft robot effectively meets the performance requirements for finger rehabilitation. the findings from these investigations hold significant implications for the development and optimization of soft robotic systems in the context of medical rehabilitation applications. © 2023 IEEE.

this paper presents a parametric study of beams resting on elastic foundations having nonlinear cubic stiffness properties. An analytical study is conducted using the expansion method and a numerical study using Finite Element analysis (FEA) in Abaqus to achieve the work. Both free and forced beam vibration responses are investigated. the objective of the study is to understand better how the frequencies of the beam are influenced by (i) cubic-nonlinearity of the stiffness of the foundation (compared with the response of the beam on a linear-elastic foundation) and (ii) external excitation amplitude. Furthermore, the effects of these parameters on the amplitude of vibration of the beam are explored. As expected, the natural frequencies of the beam increase as the stiffness parameter increases. then, the extent to which the nonlinear foundation modifies the beam’s vibration characteristics is also revealed. Finally, numerical results are compared to analytical results for validation, and conclusions are drawn related to engineering practice. this work was supported by the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD) Fellowships, the Swedish International Development Corporation Agency (SIDA), and the International Students’ Scholarship from the University of Cape Town. the authors would like to acknowledge all these sources of financial support and express their sincere gratitude. © 2022 the Author(s).

Centrifugal compressors are key elements in turbochargers and small gas turbines, making their performance evaluation essential for system efficiency and energy savings. this paper outlines creating and validating a specialized experimental setup designed for in-depth research on centrifugal compressors. the setup allows for the study of various impeller and diffuser configurations, flow-field analysis using Particle Image Velocimetry, and the investigation of inlet distortions, among other future research topics. the paper details the approach used to build the setup and validates its functionality through a case study featuring a research compressor with a vaneless diffuser. A characteristic map generated using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is used as a benchmark for comparison with experimental data. Initial results show a strong correlation between the CFD and experimental data in terms of flow rate and pressure ratio, validating the setup's effectiveness. the overall performance aligns with existing research, confirming the setup's value as a reliable platform for future studies on centrifugal compressors.

With the development of domestic aircraft models in China, this paper reviewed the existing airport facilities and analyzed the parameters of new aircraft design, as well as proposing airport compatibility assessment content and safety operating margins for new aircraft design. the main airport facilities include runway, taxiway, visual aids, apron, emergency rescue and clearance planning. through both qualitative and quantitative analysis, the system and content of airport compatibility assessment were proposed. the research results is helpful to improve the reliability development of aircraft design in China. © 2024 SPIE.

the third-generation nuclear power unit has become the mainstream of construction of nuclear power plants worldwide. According to the historical operation experience, for vertical natural circulation steam generators, deposits on the upper surface of tubesheet must be removed during the outage to prevent the excessive accumulation of deposits (sludge) from triggering problems such as degradation and breakage of the tubes. Based on the HPR1000 unit BWC-97 steam generator, this paper describes high-efficiency automatic hydro-lancing equipment design scheme, including the design principle analysis, distributed control system design, hydraulic parameters calculations and other content. Field application shows that the design scheme can meet the actual needs of steam generator lancing during the outage of the HPR1000 units, and has further application value for third-generation nuclear power units. © 2024 SPIE.

the 3D digital design and the delivery of 3D digital models for substations have been widely carried out around the world. However, the current 3D display systems cannot reflect the the real-time operating data and status of the equipment. In this paper, a 3D real-time monitoring and display system for substations is proposed, which can dynamically monitor the operating data and status of equipment in a 3D visualization environment. © 2023 SPIE.

UHV AC transformer is an important equipment in 1000kV UHV substation, and its importance is self-evident. In this paper, the characteristics of fault current in UHV main transformer are analyzed combined with the UHV main transformer trip event caused by abnormal discharge of a combined electric appliance. And the transformer fault recorder is used to realize the quick location of main transformer by phase difference. According to the analysis results, it was determined that the primary fault point was in the B phase gas chamber of 50121 switch on the 500kV side. the gas component test results on site were consistent with the analysis results, which verified the effectiveness of the fault location method. © 2023 IEEE.

Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) denotes a stage of cognitive decline that could indicate an increased vulnerability to developing Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia. Timely identification of MCI is crucial for intervention and monitoring, potentially delaying or preventing further cognitive decline. this study aims to devise a method for early MCI detection using electroencephalogram (EEG) signals. the EEGNet model, a specialized neural network architecture tailored for EEG data analysis, is employed. the EEG data undergoes preprocessing, involving the application of a bandpass filter to isolate relevant frequency components, and segmentation into shorter epochs. these epochs are subsequently classified as either HC or MCI using the EEGNet model. the model achieved a remarkable accuracy rate of 99%, underscoring the potential of leveraging EEG data to enhance diagnostic capabilities and enable early interventions for individuals at risk of cognitive decline. © the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

Adders play a central role in arithmetic computations as well as digital signal processing. Besides addition, adders are used in multiple operations in processors. Based on our requirements upon variegated parameters our choice on adders can also be changed. Most digital systems, such as processors or computers, have 32-bit architecture, which includes 32-bit integers, registers, and memory locations, among other things. As a result, optimising 32-bit adders minimises total latency and thus enhances speed. In this work, performance analysis of 32-bit adders is compared by the Verilog programming language. 32-bit adder design is highly crucial as its architecture is widespread and used widely, and it is so hard to design. designing several adders of 32 bit such as carry save adder (CSA), carry look ahead adder (CLA), ripple carry adder (RCA), modified carry select adder (MCSA), carry skip adder (CSKA), kogge stone adder (KSA) and carry select adder (CSLA), are explained in this work based on memory usage and delay. Discussions on adder types are made that aids in reducing the time usage on tedious tasks. CLA and CSKA were compared. Synthesis and simulation are done using Xilinx ISE tool. the simulation results help in the determination of the attributes that were assorted. © 2022 IEEE.

With the establishment of the national "carbon peak"and "carbon neutral"goals, the state clearly proposed to increase the development of clean energy, including the development of variable speed pumping and storage units, at present, Germany, Japan and other countries have earlier development of variable speed pumping and storage units, technical capabilities, application performance are wider, there is a greater reference significance. this paper discusses several technical routes for the key generator design of variable speed pumping and storage units, and puts forward a concrete optimization scheme[1]. © 2023 IEEE.
