the research background of this paper is the research on the waist beam of the support system during the shaft construction stage of the subway tunnel construction. Because there is less comprehensive analysis and research at present, a standard design principle is needed to guide the actual construction. therefore, according to the characteristics of the fabricated shaft and its waist beam, this paper constructs models with different spacing and size in combination with Xi'an Metro Line 8 Project. this paper analyzes the variation characteristics of displacement and stress under different factors, puts forward the design principle of the waist beam, reveals the variation characteristics of the displacement and internal force of the whole system with the depth of the shaft excavation process, and provides an important reference for the theoretical research and engineering design of the prefabricated shaft in the underground subway section. the conclusion shows that the displacement and stress increase gradually with the increase of the distance, reaching 50%, when the distance between the waist beams of the shaft changes between 2-6m, which indicates that the recommended value range of the subway shaft of this size is 4-6m.

Data preparation is the process of normalizing, cleaning, transforming, and combining data prior to processing or analysis. It is crucial for obtaining valuable results from data analysis. However, designing the most effective data preparation pipeline is often one of the biggest challenges for data analysts, consuming up to 70-80% of their time. the work illustrated in this paper is the first step toward designing a framework that simplifies the selection and validation of data preparation tasks. It proposes an environment with diverse levels of assistance and autonomy, accommodating varying data analysts' skills and expertise. the requirements for the design of this new framework were elicited through in-depth interviews and think-aloud sessions involving a sample of data analysts, which highlighted understandability, explainability, and continuous learning as fundamental factors. the paper discusses alternatives to enhance these factors, also considering strategies that adopt Large Language Models.

Recent years have witnessed rapid growth in knowledge graph embedding (KGE). KGE aims to improve knowledge acquisition, integration and reasoning skills, but there is less research on this aspect of uncertain knowledge graphs (UKG). While some existing research on uncertain knowledge graph embedding uses human labor and domain knowledge to enhance performance, it ignores that semantic-based modeling approaches are capable of modeling knowledge graphs for multiple relational patterns, including equivalence, symmetry, antisymmetry, composition, etc. therefore, we propose some uncertain knowledge graph representation learning models based on classical semantic matching methods, and conduct experimental analysis on them. In order to ensure the fairness and scientificity of the experiments, we propose and design a unified model training framework to control variables. We use three public uncertain knowledge graph datasets and repaired the unreasonable ones. the experiment was conducted through three tasks, i.e. link prediction, confidence prediction, and relational fact ranking. We find that our proposed U ANALOGY model can combine the advantages of other models and can model the uncertainty knowledge graph well. Likewise, the proposed approach achieves the best tradeoff between performance and accuracy of uncertain knowledge graph embedding and inferring. Web Search Engine Results Pages (SERP) are one of the most well-known and used web pages. these pages have started as simple "10 blue links" pages, but the information in SERP currently goes way beyond these links. Several features have been included in these pages to complement organic and sponsored results and attempt to provide answers to the query instead of just pointing to websites that might deliver that information. In this work, we analyze the appearance and evolution of SERP features in the two leading web search engines, Google Search and Microsoft Bing. Using a sample of SERP from the Internet Archive, we analyzed the appearance and evolution of these features. We found that SERP are becoming more diverse in terms of elements, aggregating content from different verticals and including more features that provide direct answers.

Currently, there are many different types of orthoses designed to be made using additive manufacturing methods (3D printing), in which numerous pattern structure are used. these structures are mainly intended to reduce the weight of the orthosis and consequently reduce the material needed for printing. Unfortunately, the arrangement of these structures is often random and does not result from strength analyses. this work presents the design of a customized wrist orthosis containing open areas whose shape and location were determined based on the results of topological optimization. For this purpose, a modified 3D scan of the upper limb was used, based on which a 3D model of a typical (full) wrist orthosis was created. this model was used to perform topological optimization for 4 different load cases corresponding to movements performed in the wrist joints. the results obtained in this way were used to design ventilation areas in the orthosis model, taking into account protective areas necessary from medical point of view. then, 3D models of the full orthosis structure and the orthosis after optimization were subjected to Finite Element analysis (FEA). the results of FEA provided information about the necessary corrective changes were made to the geometry of the orthosis in order to improve its strength - e.g. widening the material strip in critical areas. the final 3D model of the wrist brace obtained in this way was verified in terms of meeting the adopted design assumptions and strength requirements.

Adaptation to climate change is crucial for Critical Transport Infrastructures (CTIs) due to their proximity to completing their life cycle and the lack of design considerations for weather extremes. Considering the insufficient financial resources during the ageing periods of such infrastructure, investment is necessary to support their resilient and sustainable maintenance. the potential need for investment is examined in this paper by utilizing a novel data-driven methodology and a Life Cycle Cost (LCC) analysis to assess the CTIs’ resources resilience. Further to this, the effectiveness of the mitigation measures on the infrastructures’ adaptative capacity is estimated with the Adaptation Index (AdI), which considers resilience and sustainability levels. Resilience is accounted for three different components related to structural integrity, functionality, and resources. Sustainability is indirectly assessed by weighting the distinct ageing periods of the asset’s life cycle and the calculated resilience levels. To document the proposed methodology, a case study Reinforced Concrete (RC) highway bridge in the Netherlands is considered. the results of this research aim to inform owners and stakeholders about the operation level and the effectiveness of adopted policies for the bridge’s management as well as assist in decision-making for a rapid and reliable data-driven adaptation analysis of the asset. © the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

In recent years, super multi-lane expressways such as two-way ten lanes and twelve lanes have become a new trend of highway reconstruction and expansion in our country. Due to the limitations of terrain conditions, land use scale and investment in expressway reconstruction and expansion, some adjacent interchange is set as compound interchange because of the small net distance between them. In this paper, the combination of adjacent interchange with auxiliary lanes is taken as the research scenario, and by combining theory and simulation analysis, the length selection method of the weaving area of the composite interchange of super multi-lane expressway (one-way five-lane and six-lane) is proposed, which can provide reference for related engineering design practice. © 2024 SPIE.

the paper analyzes the distribution capacity design method and concludes that the traditional demand coefficient or estimation method based on simultaneity factor shall lead to high distribution capacity with an increased initial investment and operation and maintenance costs of transformers, due to the fluctuations in renewable energy as well as in loads. In order to improve the economy of the system, a concept of thoughtful planning of distribution capacity with an additional energy storage system in distribution grid has been proposed. By taking into consideration of dual electricity pricing mechanism, this paper provides an optimal method for electricity cost calculation and its optimal load fluctuation range. For the distribution grid with capacity cost optimized by energy storage system, a comprehensive formula has been envisioned for the calculation of returns on investment. In addition to comparisons of system costs and benefits of three types of energy storage batteries, a configuration scheme of energy storage system has been designed in this paper to achieve the optimal fluctuation rate of different types of batteries. the economy analysis shows that within a specific load fluctuation range, the lithium iron phosphate energy storage system has a higher return on investment. © 2023 IEEE.

As space agencies again turn their sights to lunar exploration, they will find a dearth of modern technologies at TRL 7-9 for the lunar environment. As a remedy, NASA is enabling new commercial testing services in tandem with commercial partners to provide a path for achieving TRL 8 or 9 through technology demonstrations on the lunar surface, including two from Aegis Aerospace, Inc. Transport to and operation on the Moon require survival of thermal extremes, extended radiation exposure, hard vacuum, pervasive dust, and other lunar peculiarities. In addition to environmental considerations, practical size, weight, and power (SWaP) considerations require systems to balance mass and structure, design electronics and software for power and bandwidth restrictions, and devise intelligent operations and ground systems. In combination with traditional verification and validation, several comprehensive tests are appropriate for lunar operations, including dusty TVAC, orbital demonstrations, and integrated mission lifetime testing at the payload and system levels. However, it is impossible to fully replicate the lunar environment, resulting in residual risk that cannot be fully mitigated with testing in simulated environments. While the lunar environment harbors many unknowns, this paper provides information for successfully designing, developing, and testing the technologies that will be integral to establishing a constant presence on the Moon.

In the machine building industry, producing parts from materials with high mechanical properties typically demands considerable energy consumption during machining. As part of our research, we focused on optimizing the machining process for cutting high-strength aluminum alloy 2024 semi-finished products, crucial for the aerospace industry. Our aim was to reduce energy consumption by exploring novel designs for cutting tools. In this context, the study measured forces in the three primary directions of a cutting process (Fc, Ff, Fp) for three different design variants of cutting tools, along with the associated power consumption. the improved design of cutting tools results in a significant reduction in cutting forces, approximately by 30%, according to the study’s findings. Statistical analysis highlights the benefits of using the enhanced version of the tool, especially in material removal processes, where the decrease in cutting forces is most pronounced. Overall, these findings advocate for the use of the improved cutting tool variant to optimize performance and reduce operational costs. © the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.
