designing of an IoT-based air pollution monitoring system is a proactive and impactful approach to tackle the critical issue of air pollution and its adverse effects on the environment. Such a system is instrumental in offering real-time air quality data, empowering swift responses when pollution levels exceed acceptable thresholds. the system's design encompasses various hardware components, including carefully chosen air quality sensors, a microcontroller (Arduino Mega 2560), a communication module for the network connectivity, and a sustainable power supply. On the software front, the system involves data collection from sensors, data processing with calibration and conversion to air quality parameters, secure data transmission, storage, analysis, and an alerting mechanism. User interface development facilitates real-time and historical data visualization, while stringent security measures ensure data protection. Scalability, integration, and strategic deployment in key areas further enhance the system's effectiveness. Regular maintenance and updates are vital to ensuring accurate and reliable performance. Overall, implementing an IoT-based air pollution monitoring system is an essential step toward monitoring and addressing air quality concerns in a comprehensive and timely manner, ultimately fostering environmental awareness, and driving pollution mitigation efforts. © 2023 IEEE.

Magnetic hydrodynamic drive (MHD) generates thrust by the coupling interaction of three fields: flow field-electric field-magnetic field. Because this propulsion method has no propeller or mechanical structure, it has the advantages of quiet, simple structure, easy operation, flexible layout, and difficult to detect. this is the current research hot spot. In order to meet the needs of miniaturized silent propulsion, this paper selects a linear internal magnetic thruster for research and analysis and improves the design of an I-shaped magnetic bridge structure. Firstly, the thrust and efficiency of the thruster under ideal conditions are calculated, and the thruster model is established. the conclusion is that the I-shaped magnetic bridge can increase the magnetic field intensity of the channel and significantly improve the MHD propulsion efficiency. At the same time, it is found that MHD thruster can reduce noise during operation, but the current required for propulsion is large, and seawater electrolysis will occur, which has a certain impact on the environment. Finally, the problems of small direct drive MHD propulsion are analyzed, and the future development direction of MHD propulsion is prospected. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

For new energy and DC to replace a large number of conventional units, the system's moment of inertia is reduced, and the burden of traditional frequency modulation method is increased. In this paper, VSG inertia and damping coefficient adaptive strategy is designed, and the adaptive parameters are adjusted. According to the characteristics of the wind storage system based on three dynamic frequency indexes, the day-ahead scheduling control strategy is designed, and the adjustable standby capacity of the wind storage system is obtained. Finally, when the frequency deviation exceeds the threshold value, real-time scheduling analysis of frequency parameters, considering three frequency dynamic indicators, the frequency adjustment coefficient and frequency modulation capacity of each part of the Wind energy storage system are optimized, and the optimal allocation results are obtained. In IEEE4 computer system, the adaptive inertia forward-real-time scheduling control strategy designed in this paper is compared with other frequency control strategies, and the superiority of the proposed strategy is verified. © 2024 SPIE.

the boring process in metal cutting was found to be a very widely used machining process even though chatter caused during machining is significant. In order to suppress tool vibration and to enhance performance indices like surface finish, tool wear, cutting force, etc., a smart damper was considered in this study and analyzed computationally. Accordingly, damping force obtained using magnetorheological foam was analyzed to control vibration. To improve the dynamic stability and boring operation as a whole, a series of finite element studies have been conducted on the boring tool to understand the influence of each damper on the boring operation and found to be effective in obtaining better dynamic stability. From the analysis, it was observed that the tool supported by the damper suppressed vibration effectively when compared to the tool without the damper. © 2023, the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

One of the leading causes of death is represented by respiratory disease. In this context, screening is really crucial in order to diagnose respiratory disorders early. In this paper, we propose an approach to automatically analyse respiratory audio recordings for disease detection, by converting respiratory audio recordings into spectrograms. We design a convolutional neural network aimed to classify respiratory audio recording into one of the following classes: Bronchiectasis, Bronchiolitis, Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, Upper respiratory tract infection, Pneumonia or Healthy. Moreover, the proposed method provides a kind of explainability about the model decision by highlighting the areas on the spectrogram related to a certain respiratory diagnosis, to increase confidence and trustworthiness from doctors and patients: in this way, we aim to boost the development of machine learning techniques in the real-world medical context. We present an experimental analysis including 2751 different annotated respiratory audio recordings of length varying from 10s to 90s related to 126 different patients obtaining an accuracy equal to 0.849, thus showing the effectiveness of the proposed method for explainable respiratory disease detection. © 2023 University of Split, FESB.

Due to unforeseen operation errors or natural disasters, off-station pipelines may undergo emergency shutdown operations, necessitating a focus on flow assurance during the shutdown and restart process. Moreover, energy saving and emission reduction have become the focal points in the transformation of oilfield enterprises. this paper formulates a method for predicting the flow status during shutdown and restart of off-station pipelines based on the liquid conservation law, and the characteristic equations are solved by the characteristic line method. A comparative analysis is conducted on the operation rules of shutdown and restart for oil-water mixing transportation and dewatering processes under different water cuts. A typical off-station pipeline in a transfer station is selected as the case study object. the results indicate that due to the lower station heating required for the oil-water mixing transportation process, this process saves 44.3% of costs compared to the dewatering process. As the water cut increases, operation costs decrease and then increase, with the total cost of the 50% water cut scheme being the most economical. this study provides a reference for the safe operation and energy-saving management of off-station pipelines in the future. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

this paper presents the development of an innovative software tool that utilizes digital twin technology to measure the Poisson's ratio. Traditional measurement methods often face challenges due to the small magnitude of axial and radial strains, leading to inaccuracies and insufficient data representation. To overcome these limitations, we propose a digital twin-based approach that enables the creation of a virtual replica of physical systems, allowing for real-time simulation and analysis of material behavior. this software not only facilitates precise measurement of the Poisson's ratio but also generates interactive visual representations of the data, thereby enhancing the understanding of engineers and stakeholders. Our research findings indicate that integrating digital twin technology into Poisson's ratio testing is not only feasible but also beneficial. this approach significantly improves measurement reliability and showcases visually enriched plots, making it easier for engineers and researchers to interpret complex data. the utilization of digital twins allows for real-time simulations and comprehensive data analysis, which are crucial for understanding material behavior under external loads. © 2025 IEEE.

the decarbonization of power system resulted significant change on the power transmission requirement. Renewable generation replacing traditional generation has also modified the power system network flow significantly. To meet the power transmission requirement, this article focuses on the potential usage of dynamic thermal rating for overhead lines which can increase the transmission line capacity without building new transmission corridors. Traditional method for DTR evaluation lacks the detailed wind distribution including direction and speed, especially when terrain condition is complicated where micro climate exists locally. this work is to address this challenge by perform detailed computational fluid dynamic simulation taking into consideration of complex terrain data. the terrain information is generated from the ERA5-land data and 3D model is therefore constructed within the CAD tool. Sensitivity analysis is performed to demonstrate the satisfactory result accuracy. Not only the wind speed but also the wind direction is computed, and results are analyzed. It is identified that with the proposed computational model, after terrain data is included, the flow speed in various incoming direction can be estimated, therefore support the further improvement on the DTR decisions. © 2024 SPIE.

DIgSILENT/PowerFactory has a rich component library, flexible modeling capabilities, and powerful power system analysis functions widely used worldwide. BPA software is commonly used in dispatch and planning departments, but problems exist, such as poor modeling flexibility. To automatically import the power grid model of BPA into DIgSILENT/PowerFactory, this paper analyzes the static component and dynamic controller models in BPA and DIgSLENT, provides the corresponding relationship between the data conversion of two simulation software, and uses DSL language to build the mainstream controller model of BPA in DIgSILENT. We studied the DGS file provided by DIgSILENT and the Python language API interface. We designed a conversion software for automatically importing BPA power grid models into DSILENT using Python language. Finally, taking the Maozhanyang area power grid of the Southern Power Grid as an example, the component parameters, power flow calculation results, and transient analysis results of two simulation software were compared to verify that the conversion software met the design requirements. © 2023 IEEE.

Recently, designers favored thin-walled steel sections due to their high structural efficiency and thus their high economic privilege over hot-rolled sections. However, these slender sections suffer from buckling failure which puts some constraints on the use of these sections. Direct Strength method is a recently adopted design approach that requires no effective section calculations. Instead, it depends on performing buckling analysis on members using numerical analysis methods. A newly verified analysis program (OpenFSM) developed by the authors that conducts buckling analysis using the finite strip method is introduced. It offers an alternative analysis tool with an easier interface including features that can facilitate the design process and offer more potential for conducting parametric studies and research projects. OpenFSM is utilized to investigate the behavior of the widely used hat cold-formed steel members. Moreover, several important observations are deducted. Also, equations governing local buckling stress of hat-shaped members are presented.
