the design of a multi-storied steel building requires a lateral load resisting system in addition to the gravity load system, as these are the governing factors in the design and affect its service-life performance. this study aims to demonstrate the impact of several bracing systems in multi-storied steel buildings. Since most multistorey structures comprise reinforced concrete (RC) frame construction, ensuring the design is safe against lateral loads is essential. Steel bracing is mainly used to resist these lateral loads in designing a tall building. Due to its high rigidity, strength, and lateral load-resisting capacity, steel bracing is an excellent alternative for providing lateral support in a high-rise building. the bracing element in a structural design offers additional rigidity, which helps the structure resist earthquake forces. Because of its ease of manufacture and low cost, concentric bracing is one of the most used lateral load-resisting measures in building frames. this study presents the analysis results of various types of bracing (X-bracing, V-bracing, K-bracing and Diagonal bracing) in a structural system using STAAD Pro software and a comparison is presented in terms of maximum lateral displacement, shear forces and bending moments observed due to the application of lateral loads. Tall buildings having 34 storeys with different bracing patterns were analyzed. this study concludes that using bracing units in a structural design significantly alters and improves the structural response of a high-rise building under seismic and wind loads. © 2023 the Authors.

Finite element studies on welded joints require a three-dimensional thermal analysis with special considerations like moving heat sources, temperature-dependent material properties, transient heat transfer analysis, etc. However, it is often approximated using a two-dimensional analysis for computational reasons. this work aims to investigate the difference in temperature profiles obtained by two-dimensional and three-dimensional numerical analyses of welded joints using finite element method. A transient 3D finite element analysis is performed using ABAQUS software, and the results are compared with that presented in literature. A cross-sectional 2D model is developed, and the temperature profile obtained is compared with that of 3D analysis. the simulation results suggest that the heat flow along the welding direction has a significant effect on the temperature profiles in the welded plate, and the 2D analysis predicts a lower peak temperature, thus resulting in non-conservative predictions. © 2023, the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

the emergence of artificial intelligence (AI) has brought about a significant change in the way skin cancer is diagnosed, as it is a common and potentially dangerous ailment. this survey article thoroughly examines the significant impact of artificial intelligence (AI) in the detection of skin cancer. It does so by analyzing more than 10 research papers based on the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) standards. the review covers many aspects, such as the utilization of sophisticated image processing techniques, machine learning algorithms, and deep learning methodology specifically designed for dermatological purposes. the text examines the incorporation of clinical data, the metrics used to evaluate models, and the difficulties related to obtaining diverse and representative datasets. the survey explores the intricacies of real-time detection systems, the collaboration between humans and artificial intelligence in the field of dermatology related to the usage of Artificial Intelligence for diagnosis. the study also examines the comprehensibility and clarity of AI models, investigating the influence of transfer learning in the field of dermatology and the effects of IoT and wearable devices on the detection of skin cancer. this analysis covers the topics of telemedicine applications, data privacy, and security concerns. It also includes an evaluation of the economic consequences and cost-effectiveness of AI-driven diagnostics compared to traditional methods. the paper continues by providing a future-oriented viewpoint on worldwide patterns, approaches to involving patients, and upcoming technologies that influence the future of artificial intelligence in the field of dermatology. this survey offers a thorough comprehension of the changing terrain of artificial intelligence in the identification of skin cancer, establishing the groundwork for future progress and enhanced therapeutic procedures. © the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springe

In modern Very-Large-Scale Integration (VLSI) technology, managing information loss is a critical challenge. Conventional logic gates, such as AND, OR, and NOT, are prone to data loss during operations, reducing their efficiency for sophisticated applications. Reversible logic gates, which have an equal number of inputs and outputs, offer a solution by preserving data integrity. this paper presents the design and FPGA implementation of an efficient and high-speed full adder circuit utilizing reversible logic gates, namely Feynman, Toffoli, and Peres gates. the design focuses on improving computational efficiency and thermal performance. An analysis of the circuit's quantum cost, garbage outputs, and ancillary inputs reveals its advantages over traditional designs. Proposed design has been realized using Verilog and Synthesize and simulations performed using Xilinx Vivado and Xilinx ISE tools, confirms the functionality and efficiency of the proposed full adder. FPGA implementation of the design has been done using NEXYS A7 (Artix 7 series). the results show that the circuit has a quantum cost of 10, with two garbage outputs and one ancillary input, underscoring its potential for use in low-power, high-performance computing systems and quantum computing applications. © 2025 IEEE.

With the increasing circuit complexity of chip design, wafers are prone to defects in the production process. Since different defects have their causes, post-analysis is important to wafer production. However, the sample size is not balanced, and the effect of classical residual networks is limited. this article uses a Split-Attention network (ResNeSt) with which feature maps will be input into k-base groups, each consisting of r groups. thanks to the large receptive field, image features can be obtained better. We add channel attention and give higher weight to the effective feature channels to improve network performance. Compared with the classical residual network, the new network has an improvement of 43.06%, 32.73%, and 10.86% in handling Scratch, Near-full, and Local defects, respectively. © 2024 Institute of Physics Publishing. Geosynthetic reinforced soil-integrated bridge systems (GRS-IBS) are gathering huge importance for their ease of construction, reduced construction time, and cost-effectiveness. these systems employ a type of mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) wall to support single-span and multi-span bridges. A typical GRS-IBS structure comprises of three essential components: (1) Reinforced Soil Foundation(RSF), (2) GRS Abutments, and (3) Integrated Approach. the bridge superstructure is supported directly by GRS abutments, made up of closely spaced layers of geosynthetic reinforcement and compacted granular backfill. In this study, the efficiency of GRS-IBS in terms of lateral displacement of facing and the maximum tension developed in the reinforcement with respect to the depth of the abutment is investigated. Numerical simulations were performed using the finite element program, PLAXIS 2D, under the plane strain condition. A parametric study was then performed to study the behaviour of GRS-IBS under live traffic load considering different values for reinforcement stiffness, reinforcement spacing, and friction angle of backfill soil. the results from numerical analyses showed that stiff reinforcement and backfill with high friction angle contribute towards enhancing the performance of the GRS IBS;however, reinforcement stiffness is found to have insignificant effect on the design components when compared to the effect of vertical reinforcement spacing. © the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

Heterogeneity in traffic poses challenges in the analysis of traffic data for future forecast planning and design of highway facilities. Of the various parameters that are essential for the data analysis, lane adherence is an important parameter that plays a vital role in mapping traffic characteristics of a stream, in terms of capacity, safety, etc. there is a common perception that lane adherence of mixed traffic is poor. It is learnt from studies that the speed range of motorized vehicles is becoming narrower and attempt to stick to a lane is on the rise. Lane adherence needs to be promoted for better discharge at intersections in urban areas and safe travel. the improved design and construction of roads to standards are encouraging drivers to follow lane discipline. there seems to be pattern in selection of lane according to the speed of travel and size of vehicles. Automatic classified counting sensors have facilitated recording the position of vehicles with respect to cross section of the road. Precise information of vehicle position recording helps in study of lane adherence at a section. Daylong continuous data recording was carried out with infra-red-based sensor, TIRTL on three intercity roads. Apart from information about vehicle position from the edges of road, data such as speed, flow, headway and vehicle category was obtained. the traffic flow characteristics on the three intercity roads (two-lane undivided, four-lane and six-lane divided highways) and lane adherence observed are reported in this paper. the results indicate lane adherence of heterogeneous traffic flow is observed. the results could help planners and engineers to decide deployment of sensors for data collection and to plan optimal traffic management. © 2023, the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.
