Addressed in the present paper are the underlying causes for the emergence and development of cracks in specific areas of diesel engine cylinder heads. Reconsidered, from the authors' point of view, are some frequently recurring regularities of failure occurrence in a particular type of engine using fuel injection system. Examined further is the impact of the distinctive characteristic features of the design, and the thermocyclic effect on the structure of the aluminum alloy during the process of combustion. © 2022 IEEE.

the growth of traffic is significant to the planning and development of the transportation system, as it aids in the identification of future investments. Traffic forecasting is defined as an evaluation of traffic capacity and the number of vehicles that will use a specific type of transportation facility in the future. this method uses appropriate assumptions to estimate overall average traffic, giving adequate weight to traffic growth in figures, considering the volume of design services as recommended by IRC: 64 for various road types, for the following three decades, this model is used to forecast future traffic volumes in PCU/day. After analyzing several research publications, a methodology based on the elasticity method is adopted to determine the overall traffic growth rate. To develop the future traffic prediction model, the vehicle registration figures are collected from the RTO-Shillong, correlated with the help of GDP, per-capita income, and population of the Meghalaya to generate the growth rates as per IRC recommendations. the model of traffic forecasting might be quite subjective and approximate due to the lack of adequate data and the volatility of the expanding economy. thus, proposing lanes required after ten, twenty, and thirty years for smooth serviceability of different roads classified based on location and function as per IRC recommendations will be obliging. © 2023, the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

Cyber-physical systems (CPS) make a critical contribution in various domains, including smart grids, industrial control systems, and autonomous vehicles. this paper offers a thorough survey and analysis of various intrusion detection frameworks specifically designed for CPSs from 2023 to 2019. the study aims to provide an in-depth understanding of the existing techniques, methodologies, and challenges associated with intrusion detection in CPS environments. this paper examines the key components and functionalities of intrusion detection frameworks, including data collection mechanisms, feature extraction techniques, and classification algorithms. this paper analyzes the impact of different design choices on the holistic effectiveness and proficiency of the frameworks. this study endeavors to aid scholars, system designers, and practitioners through a comprehensive summary of the latest frameworks for intrusion detection in CPSs. Bridge isolation using laminated rubber bearing has been widely used for seismic safety and reduces response displacement of substructures during earthquake. But in recent large earthquakes in Japan, damages at girder ends of steel girder bridges prevented an easy repair and an early recovery of traffic. then the authors focused on a bridge deck isolation of the steel girder bridge having deck system for damage mitigation and seismic redundancy and have conducted feasibility studies of the system. this paper presents application examples of the bridge deck isolation into a steel I-shaped girder bridge and its seismic responses through dynamic response analysis. the analytical results indicate that the bridge deck isolated by using a low frictional sliding surface over the steel girder and supported laterally by buffers effectively reduces reaction forces of bearings. Structural plans to enhance repairability and maintainability are also taken into the application examples.

Free-fall lifeboat (FFLB) launch is necessary for safe marine evacuation, especially for fast leave extreme maritime accidents. this study presents a retrospective review of the FFLB launch by content analysis approaches. the overview and legal foundation of FFLB for evaluating dynamic response criteria is investigated. the classify the existing method for assessment of the dynamic motion of FFLB during launching and after water entry is studied. the effects of skid angle and skid height on the water entry impact of lifeboat design are analyzed and discussed. Skid angle and skid height have a significant effect on the trajectory and the acceleration of the FFLB, it is especially important to determine these influencing parameters, because it can help the FFLB to move away from the hazardous area and reduce the risk of an accident during launch. Further research is needed in the topics of the performance of FFLB during the evacuation process such as examination of the best dropping angle and safe seat orientation for each possible FFLB's launch task under disruptive environmental conditions. © 2023 IEEE.

With the construction sector being responsible for about 40% of the energy and material use, the sector has a great responsibility for lowering the consumption if we are to succeed in our global pursuit for the green transition. However, buildings must still comply with the demands of users. For long-span, open-space lightweight, multi-storey buildings, this provides a potential risk related to annoyance caused by vibration and structure borne noise. this paper addresses the multilateral effects of building typology in terms of the vibroacoustic performance and the environmental impact. Based on an automized digital framework, multi-storey buildings made of cross-laminated timber and/or concrete are modelled and compared. Finite-element analysis is used for the dynamic structural analysis, and the architectural design tool Rhino is used for material take-offs and visualisation. the aim of the paper is to provide insight into the advantages and disadvantages of different building typologies to be used for informed decision making in the early stages of design.

Guaranteeing human-specified performance in robot control subject to complex uncertainties is challenging. this study takes time-varying (possibly fast), bounded with unknown bounds uncertainties into consideration in controlling an uncertain robotic manipulator system (URMS). We employ an adaptive law to on-line estimate the unknown bounds for uncertainty compensation, and prescribed transient and steady state performance (TSSP) are guaranteed by using a state transformation technique. As a result, a class of adaptive robust control with prescribed TSSP is proposed. Simulation results are provided to validate the effectiveness of the proposed approach. © 2023 IEEE.

Today, Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV) robots are integral to many factories. One of the basic problems of these robots is accurate navigation, which, in addition to creating security in performing tasks, it helps the robot to manage the battery power and energy and move on a predetermined path. Over the various method, the visions are based on good performance, recently been widely used. In this research, a simple but effective fusion method as the combination of vision(camera) and infrared (IR) sensors with the minimum number of sensors is proposed and implemented. the proposed method has been simulated and evaluated using the Vrep simulator with real dimensions of our previous design AGV system named Hongma and the Python API. In the simulation, the proposed method was carried out. In the experiment, five paths named Circle, Elliptical, Spiral,8 shapes, and Special path, different paths with different complexity were tested, and the experiment aimed to find the maximum speed at which the proposed algorithm and the vision sensor (camera sensors) can track the path with a 100% success rate. the results obtained in the experiment show the fusion method's effectiveness over the five mentioned scenarios in tracking the planned path compared to the routine vision method. © 2022 IEEE.

In many developing nations, most formal educational facilities are designed and built without active ventilation to reduce costs, relying solely on passive cooling. In spite of this trend, the influence of plan shapes on the effectiveness of passive cooling in educational facilities situated in warm humid tropics has not been thoroughly researched. the research objective is to examine the impact of building plan shape on the desired natural ventilation required for thermal comfort in the classroom buildings of government owned primary schools located in Enugu city, south-eastern sub-Saharan Nigeria. A hybrid research design, encompassing both experimental and survey methods, was implemented to evaluate the outdoor and indoor climates of sixty school structures in the metropolitan area, utilizing two thermo-anemometers (AZ 9871). the selection of these structures was based on a stratified random sampling technique. To analyze the data, the global ventilation coefficient (G), building total opening wall area (TOA) to floor area (FA) ratio standards, and linear regression analysis were employed. the findings of this study indicate a significant correlation between classroom plan shape and effective natural ventilation. Furthermore, the results demonstrated that 25% was the mean TOA/FA of all classroom buildings examined, falling within the recommended range of 20%–30%. these ratios positively influenced effective natural ventilation and ultimately impacted their thermal conditions. the study surmises that the design of classroom buildings should adequately prioritize square plan shape and wall openings to ensure optimal natural ventilation. © the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

this paper conducts an analysis and investigation of outage performances and ergodic sum capacity for different users within each cluster in downlink non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) systems. Analytical expressions for outage performance and ergodic sum capacity are derived and analyzed. the analysis and simulation demonstrate that NOMA systems with more users in one cluster exhibit higher performance with lower average channel gains, while NOMA systems with fewer users in one cluster exhibit higher performance with higher average channel gains. this suggests the need for different user grouping strategies under varying signal-to-noise ratio conditions, and the fixed user grouping schemes for NOMA systems are inadequate to adapt to complex environments and diverse services. Consequently, this paper brings in the mixed user grouping NOMA systems, which offers greater advantages comparing to orthogonal multiple access (OMA) and conventional NOMA. Finally, this study provides pathways for further research on mixed user grouping in downlink NOMA systems. © ICST Institute for Computer Sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications engineering 2025.
