Recent developments in microprocessor design show a clear rend towards multi-core and many-core architectures. Nowadays, processors consisting of dozens of general-purpose cores are already available in the market, and with the rapid development of semiconductor technology and increasing computing demand, it will be very common to have a processor consisting of hundreds or even thousands of cores in the near future. this kind of processors is commonly referred as many-core processors. In the many-core processor era, however, exploiting all the advantages offered by these processors will not be trivial. In this paper, we focus on studying and analyzing several typical parallel programming models for many-core systems, and summarize the common performance-optimized problems faced by current parallel programming models. © 2013 IEEE.

In this paper, the significant development, current challenges and future opportunities in the field of chemical product design using computer-aided molecular design (CAMD) tools are highlighted. With the gaining of focus on the design of novel and improved chemical products, the traditional heuristic based approaches may not be effective in designing optimal products. this leads to the vast development and application of CAMD tools, which are methods that combine property prediction models with computer-assisted search in the design of various chemical products. the introduction and development of different classes of property prediction methods in the overall product design process is discussed. the exploration and application of CAMD tools in numerous single component product designs, mixture design, and later in the integrated process-product design are reviewed in this paper. Difficulties and possible future extension of CAMD are then discussed in detail. the highlighted challenges and opportunities are mainly about the needs for exploration and development of property models, suitable design scale and computational effort as well as sustainable chemical product design framework. In order to produce a chemical product in a sustainable way, the role of each level in a chemical product design enterprise hierarchy is discussed. In addition to process parameters and product quality, environment, health and safety performance are required to be considered in shaping a sustainable chemical product design framework. On top of these, recent developments and opportunities in the design of ionic liquids using molecular design techniques have been discussed. (C) 2015 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Active imaging techniques have been, and will remain relevant as an integral part of the sensor network needed in mobile robotics navigation, most commonly with the use of LiDARs. For close range applications, time-of-flight (TOF) cameras are an alternative to more expensive LiDARs. the Kinect v2 (Kinect for XboxOne) has been used frequently as a range imaging camera in machine vision research because of its low cost and good performance. For mobile robotics applications moving at low speed, a larger field of view than the original (70 degrees X 60 degrees) would be desirable to increase awareness of the surroundings, and also detect other moving objects in the trajectory. Our main goal is therefore to increase the Kinect v2 field of view while keeping its main feature of depth measurements. A simple but effective solution consists in using a conversion lens to increase the ray collection angle before the rays enter the IR camera. Depth measurements remain possible from each pixel using TOF with the Kinect v2 modulated signal, provided the field of illumination matches the field of view. A trade-off has to be made between accuracy of depth measurement, optical performance and field of view/illumination enhancement. therefore, we modified a Kinect v2 to characterize its optical performances and evaluate its relevancy for applications requiring accurate knowledge of the 3D surroundings. A field of view improvement of the Kinect v2 and other similar TOF cameras could offer an alternative at minimal cost for depth measurements in machine vision, specifically in mobile robotics research where object detection and mapping tasks are frequently carried out.

Magnetorheological finishing (MRF) is a computer controlled polishing (CCP) technique for high precision surfaces. the process uses a magnetorheological fluid which stiffens in a magnetic field and thus acts as the polishing tool. A standard MR fluid consists of magnetic carbonyl iron (CI) particles, nonmagnetic polishing abrasives and liquid. To delaying oxidation of the iron particles and avoiding agglomeration the liquid consists of water completed with stabilizers. For the material removal and smoothing of the surface mostly cerium oxide or diamond is used. the materials to be polished may tend toward to different sedimentations of the MR fluid on the machined surface. these sedimentations result from the machining and may develop a polishing layer with MR fluid components. At the University of Applied Sciences Deggendorf analysis of the machined surface are made by the scanning electronic microscope (SEM) to determine the sedimentations of the finishing. the results of the research display the influence for the surface properties due to developing polishing layer by magnetorheological finishing.

We study the imaging properties of windows that rotate the direction of transmitted light rays by a fixed angle around the window normal [A. C. Hamilton et al., J. Opt. A: Pure Appl. Opt. 11,085705 (2009)]. We previously found that such windows image between object and image positions with suitably defined complex longitudinal coordinates [J. Courtial et al., Opt. Lett. 37, 701 (2012)]. Here we extend this work to object and image positions in which any coordinate can be complex. this is possible by generalising our definition of what it means for a light ray to pass through a complex position: the vector from the real part of the position to the point on the ray that is closest to that real part of the position must equal the cross product of the imaginary part of the image position and the normalised light-ray-direction vector. In the paraxial limit, we derive the equivalent of the lens equation for planar and spherical ray-rotating windows. these results allow us to describe complex imaging in more general situations, involving combinations of lenses and inclined ray-rotating windows. We illustrate our results with ray-tracing simulations.

In this paper, the design and implementation of a high speed optical ring topology based free space optical interconnect is described. this interconnect system operates at 500 MHz and consists of 16 laser transmitters, a four channel free space interconnect, and a fast speed receiver. A Nearest Neighbor interconnect has been successfully demonstrated. At the data rate of 500 MHz, the total system throughput is 8 Gbps. the system can easily be operated at much higher data rates since the rate was only limited by the electronic circuitry. A discussion is given about device issues such as optical switching devices and practical system design issues such as integration and interface with current electronic systems is considered. this interconnect is very promising in the implementation of ultra fast massively parallel SIMD machines.

A thyristor flexible control strategy based on zero sequence current update control is proposed to solve the problem of flexible arc suppression of single-phase faults in distribution networks. Based on the innovation graph theory, the zero sequence current innovation characteristics before and after feeder fault are analyzed, and the zero sequence current innovation line selection method for single-phase fault of distribution network is proposed. A master-slave arc suppression coil compensation device is improved, and a control strategy of arc suppression coil is proposed with the amplitude of zero-sequence current innovation as the trigger condition. ADPSS simulation program is used to verify the effectiveness of the method, which provides a theoretical basis for the flexible arc suppression method of single-phase ground fault in distribution network. © 2023 SPIE.

Over the last two decades solid immersion objectives have been developed for various applications, offering the opportunity to achieve a higher resolution than is possible for conventional air objective lenses. For semiconductor applications hemispherical solid immersion lenses (SILs), incorporating tips fabricated in semiconductor materials with a high refractive index (up to n = 3:5 for silicon, for example) are commonly used. With such high refractive index materials it is possible to design an objective with a numerical aperture of NA = 3:2. An apochromatic color correction is mandatory if a broad spectral range from lambda = 1200 nm to lambda = 2000 nm is required. It is well known that glasses with anomalous partial dispersion must be used to realize apochromatic color correction. It will be shown that the anomalous partial dispersions of some glasses in the IR range differ from the known behavior in the visible region. therefore, glass selection plays a significant role for the design of a high NA broadband IR objective and will be discussed. Monte Carlo tolerance analysis shows that even with state of the art manufacturing capabilities the tolerance induced aberrations of an objective with NA = 3:2 will lead to a dramatic loss of image performance, indicated by a significant drop in the Strehl-ratio. this becomes even worse when the interface of the exchangeable hemispherical SIL tip with the main objective is considered. With the aim to manufacture such objectives within a stable production process it makes no sense to overload the requirements regarding the NA. therefore, due to manufacturing issues the numerical aperture of this objective has been restricted to NA = 2:9. Wave front measurements of the manufactured objectives shows Strehl-ratios of SR > 97 % which guarantees a diffraction limited resolution.

this paper proposes a remote control model for a submerged submarine robot utilizing two acoustic converters, while optical waves and radio signals are not effective as they debilitate unequivocally in an intricate domain, for example, water. Submerged robots can be constrained by links restricted by separations and ecological conditions, not adaptable. In this manner, it is important to build up a remote control framework for submerged robots. the robots are utilized to find and research natural boundaries under waterways, trenches and sea shores. this paper incorporates two primary parts: submerged contact and control. Correspondence is structured with a transmitter and a recipient. the transmitter gets orders from a control station and afterward creates sound wave signals, where the suitable frequencies are 8-16 kHz. the collector gets acoustic signals the force connector and in the wake of preparing, it is changed over to beat signals. Two techniques for encryption to convey It is the recurrence and heartbeat coding that is proposed and contrasted with survey its focal points and hindrances. Decoded beat signals are utilized to control the submerged robot. the miniaturized scale controller is proposed to control the profundities, titles and bearings of the submerged robot. the aftereffects of the analysis show that the sign is all around prepared and the robot can run submerged adequately. In the cases of high range and because all these limitations used the wire technique, the future work is overcome for the limitation and increase the range with technique wireless. Satisfactory results were obtained in practical installation which improves the system design as reliable design.

Physical modelling is an important tool in the armoury of the geotechnical engineer, particularly for complex offshore engineering problems. It is used in both the research environment and in the commercial sector. Physical models can provide insight into new phenomena, aiding theoretical developments, and providing a benchmark for design equations. they can also add value to the design process by helping to mitigate risk. In constructing the experimental testing program there must be careful consideration of scaling issues, as it is not usually possible (or desirable) to carry out full scale testing in the laboratory (or in the field). Dimensional analysis allows the key variables controlling the problem to be determined, from which the scalability of the problem can be judged. Often scaling all aspects of the problem is not possible and so engineering judgement is needed to assess what the important issues are. this paper explores contributions made by physical modelling on the laboratory floor, and focuses on problems related to offshore geotechnical engineering. the paper looks at complexity of testing as it moves from one degree of freedom through to six degrees of freedom. the paper concludes by describing some of the current challenges in experimental modelling, and theoretical interpretation, for offshore problems. © 2010 Taylor & Francis Group, London.
