optical transport networks have been considered as one of the dominant energy consumers in the modern Internet, wherein the design toward green communication with awareness of energy saving has received growing attention from both industry and academia. this article reviews green designs in the Internet optical transport backbone, particularly on the current progresses in the development of various energy-saving strategies, such as optical bypass configurations and turning off (or sleeping) equipments, as well as the impact on network survivability and security, and renewable energy use. the article will also discuss how the network control plane should be extended to support the energy-saving functionality in the context of Generalized Multi-Protocol Label Switching (GMPLS).

Comparator-controlled power switch has been widely used to improve power efficiencies of discontinuous-conductionmode (DCM) buck regulators. Some major design challenges are capabilities oy the comparator to operate at low voltage and dissipate low power for low-voltage DCM buck regulators having high power efficiencies under light-load condition. this paper presents a new comparator with current-controlled dynamicallybiased preamplifiers. current-controlled dynamic biasing (CCDB) is developed to lowe. the required supply voltage for realizin. the autozeroing technique i. the preamplifier, thereby allowin. the proposed comparator to operate at lower supply voltage compared to that using conventional preamplifiers. the proposed CCDB technique also minimize. the current consumption oy the comparator under different input amplitudes. Implemented in a standard 0.35-μm CMOS process with Vthn ≈ |Vthp| = 0.7 V. the comparator can operate down to 1.2 V and achieve 8-bit resolution at 20 MS/s while only consuming 7-μA current. ©2009 IEEE.

the physical experiment based on science inquiry learning shows its advantages compared with traditional class demonstration. However, the participation in physical experiments is often stylized and there are still many limitations when promoting the laboratory learning. this paper presents the construction of a Virtual Optics Laboratory which is applied to the experiment of the Michelson interferometer. On the current platform, the phenomena of interference and background theories are visualized for the purpose of efficiently promoting conceptual understanding. Factors of the experimental environment such as wavelengths, properties of optical elements and perspectives can be altered with interactive tools, enabling students to set up the system, observe the phenomena of interference as well as measure wavelengths and small displacements. the simulated laboratories can be of great assistance in the development of inquiry skills to enhance school education. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2015.

Magneto-optical current transformer has the defect of poor anti-interference ability. In this paper, the interference characteristics of differential magneto-optical current transformer are studied based on the background of interphase magnetic field interference in three-phase power system. By establishing the magnetic field interference model, the anti-magnetic field interference characteristics of the differential magneto-optical current transformer are studied. the research shows that there is a zero magnetic field interference point in the difference magneto-optical current transformer and the zero-interference angle presents a specific distribution law. When the transmission light path of the difference magneto-optical current transformer degenerates to a square arrangement, the value of magnetic field interference has nothing to do with the distance of interference current. Moreover, the square structure makes it have zero-interference angle at a specific angle. the analysis shows that when the interference current deviates from zero-interference angle, the differential magneto-optical current transformer has fault tolerance within a certain range of distance and angle. And it can still meet the requirements of measurement accuracy under the influence of interference current. the simulation results are consistent with the theoretical analysis, which proves the correctness of the theoretical analysis. this research can provide a useful idea for the design of anti-phase magnetic field interference for the application of differential magneto-optical current transformer in power system.

Wireless technology is becoming one of the key technologies that allows an increase in the productivity of a manufacturing process. In this paper, a compact on-machine areal surface texture and form measurement sensor based on focus variation is presented. Considering the feasibility of operating in real-time inside a production machine, the current prototype has been designed with the dimensions of 80 mm (diameter) × 200 mm (length) and the typical time for a single measurement is less than 20 s. the instrument design is presented. the performance of the on-machine sensor has been compared with measurement results acquired by a benchtop focus variation instrument. In order to enable new services that require high data rates over longer distances, the optical fiber substitutes the copper cable step by step in the access network area. Time division multiplexed Passive optical network (TDM-PON) is a fast emerging architecture that uses passive components only between the customer and the central office. PON operators need a monitoring system for the physical layer to guarantee high service quality. this monitoring system is necessary during the fiber installation, final testing, regular operation of the network, and for fault localization. In this paper, we present our monitoring system based on optical coding for PON maintenance. this system has almost all the monitoring features required by a network operator. We explained the design and the principle operation of the technique. Moreover, we presents a management and protection solution for long-reach PON networks. Our system design achieves high reliability performance with almost half the cost if full network protection is used.

the use of LED for illumination offers significant advantages, such as lower power consumption, longer lifetime and improved colour management. Sharp gradients in luminous intensity patterns of LED are commonly controlled by the use of secondary optics that are mostly axisymmetric. In the current study, we proposed LED secondary optics forming non-axisymmetric luminous intensity distribution with an extremely narrow view angle. the proposed secondary optics dramatically reduced the view angle of the LED, with a view angle (<= 10 degrees) in full width at half maximum (FWHM) in simulations. Afterward, a prototype of the proposed lens was machined by single point diamond turning (SPDT). Luminous intensity distribution of the machined lens was off by about 8 from the optical axis and maintained a view angle of 12 degrees. the peak luminous intensity was folded more than thirty-two times. the proposed lens showed high optical performance and can be used for specialized optical applications.

With the development of technology and the improvement of people’s living standards, the requirements for wastewater treatment are becoming higher and higher. In view of the current problems of environmental pollutant reduction and energy utilization, we propose to combine the semiconductor photocatalytic reaction with activated carbon membrane modules and RO membrane modules to generate strong oxidizing radicals through sunlight excitation of semiconductor photocatalytic materials at room temperature in order to achieve the treatment of harmful and refractory organic pollutants when photocatalytic materials are excited by sunlight in ordinary temperature, solving the problems of traditional wastewater treatment such as high energy consumption, incomplete treatment and easy generation of secondary pollution. the wastewater treatment apparatus designed in this paper and related technology can not only be used for the pretreatment or advanced treatment of refractory organic wastewater in pharmaceutical, breeding, and medical industries, but also for the purification of micro-polluted water sources. © the Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

the tower operation robot based on Archimedes spiral crawling is mainly used for the installation and disassembly of tower lightning arresters. this robot has two major functions: autonomous walking and disassembly of lightning arresters, the core of autonomous walking technology lies in the constant speed drive of hub motors under different tower diameters, the driving part is composed of a power supply system;Four sets of wheel hub motors and optical flow sensors;Acquisition, driving, and communication units;the main control unit consists of four parts. the hub motor adopts a high-power, Hall sensor hub drive motor. Collect real-time torque and speed of the hub motor while the communication drive unit drives it. Hall sensors and optical flow sensors accurately measure the motor speed and robot motion speed. the robot motion speed and dual measurement speed are controlled through PID closed-loop control, ultimately achieving uniform speed control and damping control under different conditions. this circuit can effectively meet the forward and reverse rotation and continuous speed control of brushless hub motors, while tracking and measuring the operating current of the motor and protecting it from abnormal operation. the real-time image comparison obtained by the robot carrying a camera completes the robot's one click autonomous walking function under non visual conditions. In addition, by comparing the results between sensors and image data, it assists operators in manual operations. the operation indicates that the control circuit has low power consumption, strong driving ability, and flexible use. © 2024 ACM.
