this paper proposes a scheme of lightning current monitoring based on measuring Stokes parameters in OPGW (optical Power Ground Wire). Compared with traditional lightning current monitoring schemes, this design has many advantages including simple structure and high anti-interference ability. Polarization state of the signal in the OPGW fiber rotates in the direction of propagation due to the magnetic field generated by lightning strong current according to Faraday effect. Accurate tracking of state of polarization can be achieved by analyzing the change of Stokes parameters on Poincare sphere. In the experiment, lightning strikes with a current of 600 kA is successfully monitored by this scheme. Meanwhile, the error of current monitored via the scheme is approximately 1.5% when the interference RSOP is added. © 2023 IEEE.

Making a lens design working at cryogenic temperature is a real challenge. Both optical and mechanical designer must work together to prevent problems during operation. the Gemini Planet Imager (GPI), currently under construction will be a facility instrument for the 8-m Gemini South telescope. the science instrument is a cryogenic integral field spectrograph based on a lenslet array. the integral field nature of the instrument allows for a full mapping of the focal plane at coarse spectral resolution. With such a data cube, artifacts within the PSF such as residual speckles can be suppressed. Additionally, the initial detection of any candidate planet will include spectral information that can be used to distinguish it from a background object: candidates can be followed up with detailed spectroscopic observations. the optics between the lenslet array and the detector are essentially a standard spectrograph with a collimating set of lenses, a dispersive prism and a camera set of lenses in a folded assembly. this paper describes the process from the first preliminary design to the final cryogenic system for both optical and mechanical design to achieve cryogenic working solution. We also discussed the assembly procedure (room temperature vs cryogenic compensation), the test support equipments and finally the laboratory optical performances over the field of view.

In this paper a well-known approach is used for calculation of off-axis three-mirror telescope. It includes usage of conic cross-sections properties, each of the sections forming a stigmatic image. To create a compact optical system, a flat mirror aberration corrector is introduced, which is at later stage transformed into a free-form surface in order to compensate field aberrations. Similarly, one can introduce such a corrector in finalized layout for its further optimization and getting a suitable form, including the conversion of multimirrors axial optical system into decentered one. As an example, off-axial Gregory telescope embodiment is used for infrared waveband region, due to the fact that, unlike the Cassegrain telescope, it provides a real exit pupil, and usage of the mirror corrector brings several advantages. Firstly, this feature may be used to include cold stop or adaptive mirror in the exit pupil, wherein corrector is introduced into a converging beam before the focus of the first mirror. Secondly, when placing corrector in the exit pupil of the optical system it is possible to eliminate high and low order aberrations of center point, which in turn improves optical system f-number, and minimize field aberrations. As another example, off-axial Ritchey-Chretien telescope embodiment is used as a good fit for visible region systems. Analysis and calculation results of optical systems with free-form correctors with surfaces, defined by Power polynomial series are presented in this paper. Advantages of different freeform surfaces usage depends on optical system layouts specifics.

the production and viewing of panoramic scenes have fascinated people for over a millennium beginning with the camera obscura. With the advent of photography in the mid-1800s, techniques were developed to create panoramic scenes far larger than could be realized by a single camera. Making a panoramic scene from two or more images taken using a film camera was found to be challenging. Various advanced techniques for making panoramic images were developed during the 20(th) century and required specialized cameras and film processing. In recent years, digital cameras and powerful software programs have become readily available to aid in making panoramic imagery although often strange artifacts appears in the composite image. this is generally due to improperly locating the rotation axis of the camera. Interestingly, there is significant argument about where the axis of rotation should be for making proper panoramic imagery. the most common "answer" is the rotation axis should be about the second or rear nodal point, which will be shown in this paper to be incorrect. A second "answer" is to rotate the camera about its optical center. this is also incorrect;however, what actually constitutes the optical center of a lens and its applications will be briefly discussed. Examples of correctly and incorrectly produced panoramic image will be presented.

A transmission and receiving optical antenna is built-in-house by TASA and Taiwan domestic optical company CALIN. A Cassegrain type telescope is designed and manufactured with primary aperture 80 mm. It could provide the transmitted and received gain about 104 dB, and the obscuration loss about -3.8 dB in the link channel for free space optical laser communication. It could also be integrated in the CubeSat or in the optical communication terminal for small satellite missions. the root-mean-square wave front error for the optical antenna is less than 100 nm. the optical aberrations introduced on-axis WFE loss is estimated about -0.72 dB in the link budget. An eyepiece is designed to locate near the focus of telescope to collimate the output beam with beam size about 3.3 similar to 4.7 mm for propagating 50 cm distance in the follow-up communication module system. With the strong supporting domestic electro-optical industry, it is expected to help a lot on the development of the Taiwan space technology.

We have designed a fisheye lens with a field of view of 190 degrees and F# of 2.8 the diameter of the circular image plane is designed to fit within the width of the image sensor plane, so that a 190 degrees horizontal field of view can be obtained. It is composed of 8 spherical lens elements and the overall length is 35mm from the first lens surface to the image sensor plane. this fisheye lens operates simultaneously in the visible and the near infrared wavelength regions.

this paper presents an optical receiver designed to match multiple core optical fiber, implemented in a 0.18 $\mu\mathrm{m}$ CMOS process. the chip consists of a photodiode (PD) array and transimpedance (TIA) circuits, including the TIA core, Bandgap (BG) and Bias. the placement of PD array is highly matched with the multiple core optical fiber and each PD is followed by a TIA. the TIA achieves a 60 dB ohm transimpedance gain with a 200 MHz bandwidth and the input reference current noise is $7.2 \text{pA} / \sqrt{ } \text{Hz}$. the BG can stably output a 1.2 V voltage and shows a good stability in the post simulation under 128 process corners. the Bias can provide the current required to drive TIA through a mirror transistor. Eye diagrams are shown when operating at bit rates of 200 M bps and 300 M bps with a forward input reference voltage of 1.2 V. While achieving high transmission efficiency, the chip area is only $0.78\times 0.92$ mm2 which allows for more compact designs and suit for a wide range of application scenarios. © 2023 IEEE.

the National Ignition Facility (NIF) requested an optical diagnostic for measuring shock velocities, shock breakout times, and shock emission of objects with sizes of I to 10 mm. For the polar port of the target chamber, an 8-inch triplet lens collects light at f/3 inside a 30-foot-diameter vacuum chamber and uses an optical relay to send the image into two interferometers located at a distance of 160 feet. Light propagates through a VISAR (Velocity Interferometry System for Any Reflector) interferometer employing a Mach-Zehnder configuration. After exiting the interferometers the images are recorded, both by streak cameras and CCD gated imagers. Discrete magnification changes are accomplished by swapping out optical elements. Large dove prisms are used to rotate the image to align a selected region of the object with the slits of the streak cameras. Unique mounting structures are required to remotely control the alignment of the optical axis. Finite Element Analysis (FEA) was performed on all mounting structures. the first 8-inch triplet can be no closer than 500 mm from the target chamber center and is protected by a blast window that has to be replaced after every event. the first several lens groups have to be fused silica for radiation resistance. A frequency-doubled Nd:YAG laser, operating at 659.5 nm, is used to illuminate the moving object. the VISAR laser wavelength had to be different than the first, second, and third harmonics of the NIF drive lasers.

this paper presents a new pattern design for encoding structured light for scanning 3D surface and the decoding process. the basic unit of the pattern is a code-block that contains one central label and eight square-shaped primitives that provide two functions: code-block indexing and point-positions for triangulating. the square-shaped primitive has one notch in a different position to represent 8 digit numbers, which are easily to convert label to number for indexing code-block. One primitive also contributes five point-positions, centroid and four extreme, for triangulating and estimating 3D information. the design of code-block has eight 8-bit numbers allowing a higher error-tolerant and providing better resolution in 3D reconstruction. Experiment shows that the proposed pattern is suitable for indoor mapping and large scene scanning.

An important step in the fabrication of an optical component involves the imparting of a precise contour on the optic, which can be expensive and time consuming. Ion beam figuring is the imparting of a contour on an optical component by removing material through the impingement of a broad beam of accelerated neutral particles, and provides a highly deterministic method for the final precision figuring (or correcting) of optical components with advantages over conventional methods. the high predictability allows the possibility of single step figuring, resulting in significant time and cost savings. And unlike grinding, polishing and lapping, ion figuring is non-contacting and so avoids several problems including: edge roll off effects, tool wear, and loading of the work piece. It has previously been demonstrated that ion figuring is effective for the correcting of large optical components. these implementations typically use the process for final figure correction on meter class optical components. the work discussed here is the development of the Precision Ion Machining System (PIMS) at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center, designed for the processing of smaller (less than 10 cm diameter) optics. Initial experiments using a Kaufman type ion source to figure 8 cm diameter fused silica and silicon carbide samples were successful. Experiments involved correcting flat samples and imparting spherical and aspherical contours.
