the quality of simulation-based experimentation is directly related to the estimation of its key input parameters. Yet, especially when it comes to innovative transportation concepts that are characterized by a multiplicity of influencing factors, such as autonomous on-demand transport systems, reliable and realistic input parameters are difficult to obtain. In order to tackle this challenge, we propose an automated machine learning integration to estimate contextualized parameters for an agent-based simulation model. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach, a test scenario is conducted on the estimation of mobility patterns for an agent-based simulation model of autonomous on-demand shuttle operations. Here, the results of several simulation experiments prove the viability of the proposed input modelling approach, showing that an automated machine learning integration can generate more accurate estimations of input parameters in innovative, highly uncertain systems in an efficient manner.

the thyroid gland, in conjunction with the pituitary and the hypothalamus, forms a regulated system due to their mutual influence through released hormones. the equilibrium point of this system, commonly referred to as the "set point" ', is individually determined. this means that determining the correct amount of medication to be administered to patients with hypothyroidism requires several treatment appointments creating an extended treatment process. Because the dynamics of the system have not yet been fully explored, mathematical models are needed to simulate the mutual influence of the respective hormones as well as their course over time. these models enable a deeper understanding of the functionality in the context of data measurements. therefore, two time-dependent mathematical models are presented to replicate this overall influence of disparate systems. Both are based on a system of two differential equations modelling the interacting hormones. the parameters of the two models are identified according to different calibration approaches by means of patient data collected in a retrospective study in collaboration with the Medical University of Vienna. the hormonal course in the time domain as well as equilibrium curves including the set-point are then simulated and analyzed with respect to the normalized mean squared error. these calibrated systems allow a more profound insight into the functionality of the HPT complex.

the temperature responses of plant photosynthesis and respiration observed on single-plant species can be assumed to occur at the scale of a grassland ecosystem (which is a dynamic and competitive associations of plants). Based on the model for a single, fully expanded leaf as derived from experimental evidence and to gain insights into acclimatory and modulatory effects of growth temperature, we have: 1) improved a complex soil-vegetation-management model of grasslands, PaSim (Pasture simulation model), and 2) evaluated it on multi-year datasets of plant biomass and C-water-energy fluxes in managed grassland systems. Illustrative results are presented for the French grassland site of Laqueuille, by comparing two grazing management treatments: high animal stocking rate and high nitrogen fertilisation (intensive) and low animal stocking rate with no fertilization (extensive). Model performances (reflected by mean square error, index of agreement and correlation coefficient) showed that accounting for plant acclimatory effects may help improving water and respiratory fluxes. However the pattern of results is generally complex (e.g. differences between management options), and a substantiation of results is required by assessing model performances on a range of sites and contrasting conditions (as listed in the paper). © 2016 Environmental modelling and Software for Supporting a Sustainable Future, Proceedings - 8th International congress on Environmental modelling and Software, iEMSs 2016. the DYMASOS project focuses on the control of large-scale "System of Systems" that are coupled by exchange of matter and energy. A key challenge with regard to control is that each system has some degree of autonomy in its respective decisions and behavior, which disallows centralized control methods. this paper provides an overview on modeling and optimization techniques that are applied in DYMASOS and points out the general challenges that arise when applying them to real-world case studies. Multiphysical simulations become increasingly important for engineering applications due to the high accuracy of domain-specific modeling and numerical simulations;effects that were previously disregraded may become dominant. For this a monolithic approach, i.e., the solution of all subproblems in one system, is often cumbersome or even impossible because incompatible algorithms or software packages are involved. thus simulation engineers need to "weakly", i.e., each problem is tackled separately, couple subproblems in an stable and efficient way. For example for time-dependent problems where different time scales are present, waveform relaxation schemes are a promising approach that still allows for an efficient simulation of the problem. However, the independent treatment introduces splitting errors, which should be mitigated by iterative procedures that in turn can cause computational overhead. In this contributions we discuss theoretical and practical issues as the existence and uniqueness of solutions, accuracy, stability, convergence and numerical efficiency of the schemes. Differential algebraic equations (henceforth DAEs), arise from the equation based modelling of physical systems, such as those found in engineering or physics applications, with problems specifically arising from chemical distillation (Washington and Swartz (2011)), electronic circuits (Brenan et al. (1996)) and robotics (Campbell and Griepentrog (1995)). Models are now frequently built interactively using different components from large libraries in environments such as GPROMS, MAPLESIM, SIMULINK and an assortment of tools that use the Modelica language. this way of modelling systems can lead to large scale DAEs (Fritzson (2015)). A common notion is the differentiation indexwhich is equal to the number of times all or part of the system has to be differentiated in order to solve the problem as an ODE. It is well known that solving a high index (larger than one) DAE directly is numerically difficult, hence modelling tools usually perform some structural analysis to determine the index of the problem. this talk will outline different ways of using this structural analysis in the solution and regularization of DAEs. In particular the Signature Matrix method (Pryce (2001)), Dummy Derivative method (Mattsson and Soderlind (1993)), Structural-Algebraic method (Scholz and Steinbrecher (2013)) and a new approach called Structural Analysis based Dummy Derivatives will be considered. In the paper E-CHO e-learning environment and its main characteristics are presented and analysed. this program was developed at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia, where cooperation between different laboratories enables integration of characteristics important for education purposes and specific for different research areas. Some of them are illustrated through a modelling and simulation examples which enable also several further extensions. these examples are divided into the sequence of steps or sequences guiding students through important dynamic system properties, modelling and simulation, and evaluation of obtained results with respect to experimentation measurements. Built-in flexibility enables also the usage of virtual and real remote experimentation as well as different repetition and testing possibilities.

A series of works such as harvesting and transporting in a farm is one of such works with so care as not to damage the harvest in order to maintain the value of harvests. We are developing an autonomous cart for gathering a harvest with the bed to be controlled to keep in horizontally level, in order to avoid harvests gathered in particular area of the bed and avoid to be damaged in harvests. It is proposed a method of control of maintaining the horizontal level of the bed of the cart with air cylinder suspension systems.
