With the rapid development of smart grid and regional interconnection grid, the research on the stability of modern power system is becoming more and more important. When the power system is disturbed, there will be low frequency oscillations in the system, if not suppressed;it may lead to the loss of stability of the system. therefore, the excitation system of generator should be put into power system stabilizer (PSS).this article proposes an optimization scheme of power system stabilizer (PSS) of excitation system based on-line frequency response characteristic analysis. the mathematical model of excitation system of generator is established by using power system analysis comprehensive program (PSASP7), and the parameters of PSS model are optimized. through simulation and performance measurement, it is verified that PSS has a good suppression effect on the low frequency oscillation of power grid frequency between 0.1Hz and 2.0Hz. © 2019 ieee.

For flexible medium-voltage DC distribution grid, this paper proposes a DC line protection method. Frist, characteristic differences of transient current variation at both ends of the line are analyzed when fault occurs. Afterwards a line protection scheme is proposed based on initial current travelling wave. through comparing the polarity of current modulus maxima at both ends of the line, the method can identify the internal and external faults. A modular multilevel converter (MMC)-based multi-terminal DC distribution grid is constructed using PSCAD/EMTDC, and extensive simulations are conducted to validate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme. Simulation results show that the proposed protection method can detect the fault section rapidly and accurately. © 2019 ieee.

In recent years, the new energy has developed rapidly. In actual operation, because of the lack of frequency modulation capability of PV power plant, the pressure of power balance of system and the difficulty of rapid frequency modulation increase at midday, the network frequency control becomes more and more difficult. this paper introduces the typical scheme of the Northwest grid test photovoltaic power station participating in the network fast frequency response, combining the field test and the Northwest grid frequency characteristic test in 2016, the real time analysis of the fast frequency response capacity of the photovoltaic power station is carried out systematically in China for the first time. the results show that the PV power station can participate in the fast frequency response of power grid, and its response characteristics are similar to that of conventional primary frequency modulation, so it has a good application prospect. © 2019 ieee.

Short-circuit current zero-crossing prediction is the prerequisite for accurate breaking of the circuit breaker. In this paper, the fading Kalman filter algorithm is applied to short-circuit current zero-crossing prediction. Considering the feature of the short-circuit current waveform, the prediction covariance matrix is adjusted in real time with the changing fading factor, which improves the convergence speed of the algorithm, thereby improving the zero-crossing prediction accuracy. With the PSCAD simulation model of a simple power system, multiple short-circuit current waveforms are gathered and analyzed with the algorithm proposed, which proves to be effective. With sampling window length of about 5 ms, the prediction accuracy of the first zero-crossing reaches ±0.5 ms. Compared with existing algorithms, the algorithm proposed ensures the prediction accuracy while requiring shorter sampling window length. © 2019 ieee.

the frequency estimation solutions based on the discrete phase locked loop (PLL) technology are widely applied in the intelligence electronic devices for power system. the PLL method cannot provide both the fast response and the good reliability under the system disturbance. In this paper, an improved frequency estimation solution is presented. Based on the angle characteristic of the positive sequence voltage, this method directly calculates the frequency deviation from angle difference of the continuous power cycles, without any iteration calculation. Unlike the discrete phase locked loop, which is a close-loop structure, the new method is based on an open-loop structure with the fixed sampling frequency. there is no interdependent between the calculation loops. Hence, the response time is shorter. Moreover, the 2 cycles hamming window is applied to reduce the interfaces and the angle jump detection based on the abnormal rate of change of frequency is also applied to improve the reliability of the solution. the theoretical analysis and Matlab simulations are performed. the results show the frequency estimation performance can meet the application requirements. © 2019 ieee.

As the second defense line for power grid security, the reliability of the security and stability control equipment is critical to the safety of the power grid. Based on the hardware and software design principles of the security and stability control equipment and the on-site operation regulations, the various links related to device reliability are analyzed from three aspects of hardware principle, software principle and field operation. the failure tree model and the Markov state space model are established, from which the probability of device in normal operation, hidden fault and outage operation state are concluded. Further measures for improving reliability have been proposed for each link that affects the reliability of the device. Finally, taking the CSS-100BE security and stability control equipment as an example, the effects of the reliability improvement measures were evaluated based on the field operation record and the test data of the laboratory for nearly 10 years. © 2019 ieee.

With the development of distribution network, the three-phase unbalance caused by increasingly complex loads affects the safety and economic operation of the power grid. For solving three-phase unbalanced problem, the power supply mode of the distribution network based on the three-phase to single-phase ac/dc/ac converter is proposed in this paper. A control method of a three-phase to single-phase ac/dc/ac converter is given, this power supply mode is evaluated from the aspects of equipment reliability, investment and construction cost, operation and maintenance cost and power quality. A distribution network power supply module based on three-phase to single-phase ac/dc/ac converter is implemented in PSCAD/EMTDC. the simulation results show that the proposed power supply method is feasible and has good reference for the planning and construction of distribution network. © 2019 ieee.

the fault location method and technology with high accuracy is essential for safe and reliable operations of power systems with long transmission lines. According to propagation characteristics of transient traveling wave under line-to-ground faults, a method of fault location for HVDC transmission lines based on the Hilbert-Huang transform (HHT) is proposed in this paper. Combining the advantages of Hilbert amplitude and instantaneous frequency, a new quantity PAF is proposed, so that the detection of the arrival time of the wave head is more accurate and reliable, and the locating accuracy is thus improved. the accurate model of Changji-Guquan ±1 100 kV UHVDC transmission system, including the frequency dependent phase model of transmission lines, is built in PSCAD/EMTDC, and the simulation results under different fault locations and different transition resistances indicate the significant precision and robustness of this method. © 2019 ieee.

the traditional thevenin/Norton equivalent Modular Multilevel Converter (MMC) modeling method can provide qualified accuracy in converter-level modeling. Nevertheless, when doing simulation of high voltage muti-terminal DC (MTDC) system, there are too many MMC sub-modules participate in the operation, the computer will consume a lot of computing time for voltage sorting computation of each submodule capacitor. As a consequence, when doing simulation in MTDC system, it is often impossible to perform simulation operations because too large the computational load. this paper provides a MMC modeling method without considering capacitor voltage sorting process, and meantime maintains high DC side output ripple characteristics. this proposal can satisfy the simulation in system level, applicable for mater-slave control strategy and provide high calculation accuracy even in short simulation running time. © 2019 ieee.

the solar photovoltaic generation and energy storage system are rapidly interconnecting to the distribution network. It has made the voltage rise problem in distribution lines due to the reverse current flows at the PCC(Point of Common Coupling) of DG. the penetration limits are imposed due to the overvoltage problems by these additional distributed generations. To solve the voltage problem and improve the acceptance of the distribution line to DG, a reactive power control method based on the current measurement was suggested in this study. Even if DGs are penetrated in distribution network, it can maintain voltage profile before the DG connection. A new reactive power control method was verified through various case studies using Matlab Simulink power system toolbox. © 2019 ieee.
