In mobile applications, like wireless sensor networks, it is often inevitable to use a location-independent source of energy. Wherever the batteries capacity or inefficient energy harvesting limits the lifetime, other solutions have to be implemented to increase the energy efficiency. Dynamic Voltage Scaling (DVS) is a well known technique with the ability to adapt the voltage level to the actual system load to save energy. While it has been used in many application areas, DVS has not been studied sufficiently for wireless sensor nodes. In this paper, we present a method to estimate the gain of DVS. We study DVS theoretically as well as in a practical manner, i.e., we using a prototype implementation of a DVS capable wireless sensor node. With the theoretical considerations we were able to optimize DVS for an 8-Bit ULP micro controller by a combination of DVS and dynamic power management (DPM). In addition, we proved the calculated results with an extensive practical evaluation of the concept using a prototypical implementation. Moreover, we analysed the effect of voltage scaling on other components of the sensor node (transceiver, sensors and memory).

As a promising application in WSN, there is an anomaly detection using the sensor information. In the anomaly detection, to the acquired sensor information based on the abnormality of the water quality in rivers, detects weather anomalies as familiar, it is to report to the user. Further, in the WSN, the problem sensor price and power consumption, it is difficult to provide all sensors required for anomaly detection in all nodes. therefore, it is required to share the expensive sensors in the network. We propose an autonomous distributed WSN systems sharing a limited sensor resources at high speed between the nodes, with improved anomaly detection rate by the node in the WSN.

Network diagnosis is crucial in managing a wireless sensor network (WSN) since many network-related faults, such as node and link failures, can easily happen. Diagnosis tools usually consist of two key components, information collection and root-cause deduction, while in most cases information collection process is independent with root-cause deduction. this results in either redundant information which might pose high communication burden on WSNs, or incomplete information for root-cause inference that leads false judgments. To address the issue, we propose DID, a directional diagnosis approach, in which the diagnosis information acquirement is guided by the fault inference process. through several rounds of incremental information probing and fault reasoning, root causes of the network abnormalities with high credibility are deduced. We employ a node tracing scheme to reconstruct the topical topology of faulty regions and build the inference model accordingly. We implement the DID approach in our forest monitoring sensor network system, GreenOrbs. Experimental results validate the scalability and effectiveness of this design.

Wireless sensor Networks (WSNs) can be successfully applied in a wide range of applications. Efficient data dissemination is a fundamental service which enables many useful high-level functions such as parameter reconfiguration, network reprogramming, and etc. Many current data dissemination protocols employ network coding techniques to deal with packet losses. the coding overhead, however, becomes a bottleneck in terms of dissemination delay. We exploit the concurrency ability of sensor nodes and propose MT-Deluge, a multi-threaded design of a coding-based data dissemination protocol. By separating the coding and radio operations into two threads and carefully scheduling their executions, MT-Deluge shortens the dissemination delay effectively. An incremental decoding algorithm is employed to further improve MT-Deluge's performance. Experiments with 20 TelosB motes on three representative topologies show that MT-Deluge shortens the dissemination delay by 37.6%similar to 48.6% compared to a typical data dissemination protocol while keeping the merits of loss resilience.

We consider the problem of distributed and secure routing for target tracking in wireless sensor networks (WSN) based on quantized sensors measurements. We propose a new method for jointly selecting the optimal communication path between slave sensors and cluster head (CH), detecting the malicious sensors and estimating the target position. Firstly, we detect the malicious sensor nodes based on the information relevance of their measurements. Secondly, we select the optimal communication route in order to balance the energy dissipation and to provide the required data of the target in the WSN. this selection is also based on the transmission power between a sensor node and a cluster head. then, we estimate the target position using Quantized Variational Filtering (QVF) algorithm. the computation of these criteria is based on the target position predictive distribution provided by the QVF algorithm. the performance of the proposed method is validated by simulation results in target tracking for WSN.

distributed training crossing multiple computing nodes and accelerators has been the mainstream solution for large model training. Precedent work on distributed deep learning (DDL) training acceleration has focused on improving the efficiency of communication and GPU resource scheduling, with little attention given to network bandwidth usage. However, due to cluster GPU fragmentation, more than one training job is frequently assigned to the same node to reduce waiting time. the competition for network bandwidth among various distributed training jobs becomes a problem that cannot be overlooked, and this competition results in a considerable reduction in training speed. We propose a system deployed in cluster nodes that includes traffic monitoring, classification, and prediction of DDL training status and implement a priority-based traffic scheduling policy that considers DDL training features. We demonstrate that this policy is beneficial compared to Linux's default policy, which can increase training speed by approximately 18%. Additionally, we increase the training speed by approximately 20% in the case of continuous background traffic by increasing the bandwidth priority during DDL training. © 2022 ieee.

As Wireless sensor Networks (WSNs) are starting to be adopted in critical scenarios, it becomes important to study the behavior of WSN software in response to errors induced by hardware faults. To this aim, in this paper we present the results of an extensive fault-injection campaign, conducted on three different WSN operating systems (OSs). Results show that, depending on the concurrency model and on the memory management, the OS reacts to injected faults differently, indicating that fault containment strategies and hang-checking assertions should be implemented to avoid spreading and activations of errors. Analysis also allowed us to define a detailed dependability model of the WSN software, to be used to simulate the expected failure behavior of a given OS when solicited by given low-level hardware faults.
