Business analytics has emerged in the past decade as a top concern for business executives world-wide, surpassing earlier top concerns such as supply chain management and total quality management. Business analysis techniques analyze operational data for a variety of purposes including prediction, planning, monitoring, and trouble-shooting. In this paper we focus on one type of analysis, monitoring operational data to determine whether a business is on track relative to its strategic goals. If deviations exists, our approach narrows the search to the most problematic instances detected. Furthermore, we show how the process can be fully automated including the generation of all necessary queries. Finally, we show how the monitoring process has been implemented in our tool, Argus, which enables the analysis of arbitrary periods of time. Our prototype has been evaluated using a small data warehouse of synthetic data.

Data visualizations play a prominent role in enterprise information systems in various flavors. Traditional bar, line, or pie charts, or timelines, heat maps, geographical maps, dashboard gauges, and complex relationship mappings are examples of visualizations that are frequently used in business application scenarios. Despite their extensive use, however, there is only few theoretic reflection on how characteristics of data visualizations can be described on an abstract level independent from concrete graphical rendering. this is an obstacle when it comes to consciously reflecting about the use of visualizations for communicating information, because in order to gain a justified understanding of what "good" and "appropriate" visualizations for specific use cases are, at least a common terminology for characteristics of different visualization types is required. this paper introduces a description mechanism for conceptual and perceptual characteristics of data visualizations, which abstracts from concrete visual characteristics, but incorporates a joint notion of the underlying conceptual information displayed by visualizations, together with perceptual qualities of the way visualizations are cognitively processed by the human mind. the suggested solution describes each visualization type as a multidimensional abstract space, with specific scale characteristics attached to each of its axes.

Cloud computing has evolved from just being perceived as a way to reduce and manage IT costs to becoming a key driver for enterprise transformation. the shift has been fueled by the confluence of social, mobile cloud, big-data and analytics technologies. In this paper, we introduce Industry Cloud as an aggregation of domain specific, workload optimized and value added capabilities supporting an industry and a foundation to drive the transformation. enterprises are developing and deploying new types of solutions called System of Insight (SOI) solutions that connect enterprise data to customer engagement data with analytics to derive new insights. We discuss several examples of the solutions, and present a architecture pattern that we see emerging to support these solutions. We conclude the paper by highlighting some key research topics in cloud computing to support these emerging trends.

this paper presents the Petri-object model formalization based on description of system dynamics withthe stochastic timed Petri net. the model structure consists of Petri-objects withthe use of object-oriented approach. the evaluation of computational complexity of model implementation based on mathematical description of Petri-object model is obtained. the theoretical evaluation of complexity is confirmed by experimental research. A significant reduction of Petri-object simulation complexity in comparison with stochastic Petri net is proved.

In object-oriented software modeling using the Unified Modeling Language, different aspects of a system are represented by various types of diagrams. UML diagrams represent two different views of a system model. they are static and dynamic views. In this paper we study the dynamic view of Class Diagrams and static view of Sequence Diagrams for checking consistency among them. We assume that the system is specified as a set of Class diagrams and the Sequence Diagrams are drawn using enterprise Architect. With large and more complex UML models in the software development industry there is a serious issue on inconsistency of such diagrams. In design, evolution presents three issues: Consistency amongst design representations, traceability of a design change in code in order to maintain consistency and versioning of design entities along with versioning of code. As first step we translate UML class and Sequence diagrams into XMI (XML Metadata Interchange) format. We propose an algorithm to check the consistency among these two diagrams. Furthermore show how identify errors and inconsistencies using automated tool.

Semantic annotation of Web Services has emerged as an efficient solution to automatic service discovery, composition, invocation and interoperation tasks. In this paper a three-level automated semantic classification mechanism of SOAP and Restful Web Services is examined by taking into account the textual description of Web Services. the proposed approach provides a mechanism for categorizing any Web Service into application domains, prototype operations and prototype i/o into the predefined ontology. the effectiveness of the proposed methods is validated through extensive experiments.

In this paper, we present a scalable parallel virtual machine planning and fail over method that enables high availability at a VM level in a data center. the solution is implemented and used in IBM's CMS enterprise private cloud as a high availability feature for efficient fail over in large data centers with a large number of servers, VMs, and a large number of disks. the introduced restart system enables dynamic and at-fail over-time planning and execution, and keeps the recovery time within limits of service level agreement (SLA) allowed time budget. the initial serial fail over time is reduced by a factor of up to 11 for parallel implementation, and by a factor of up to 44 for parallel fail over - parallel storage mapping implementation. As part of our future work, we plan to explore the applicability of this planning and fail over solution for Disaster Recovery.
