the Fourth international Workshop on Models and Model-driven Methods for Service Engineering -3M4SE 2013- aims at helping the convergence of research on model-driven development and practical application of the model-driven approach in the area of enterprise computing and service engineering. the workshop addresses questions with respect to the requirements on, concepts for, properties of and experience with models and model-driven methods for service engineering in the area of enterprise computing. A special focus has been on the combined application of model-driven and semantic approaches in the different phases of the service lifecycle.

At every step in creating an enterprise design, architects encounter risks and opportunities. In most cases, risk assessment and treatment is done using the company's internal methodology or based on some best-practices known by the architect. We propose a method that can combine both qualitative and quantitative risk analysis and also incorporate risk mitigation solutions. In IT security, attack-defence trees (ADT) were used successfully to represent attacks and counter-measures. the goal of this paper is to leverage the ADT approach in order to assess risks and opportunities in enterprise architecture. To that end, we elaborate a framework to identify the best ways to mitigate risks and increase an enterprise's profitability based on architectural principles. this framework will be validated with a practical case study from the insurance sector.

enterprise Architecture (EA) and IT Service Management (ITSM) are two complementary IT governance approaches, with distinct IT and organizational perspectives. Nowadays, ITIL is the de facto standard for implementing ITSM. However, it is still unclear how to measure the value that ITIL brings to organizations. this paper addresses the EA of organizations that use ITIL best practices to perform ITSM, focusing on the modeling and assessment of ITIL value in those architectures. therefore, this paper's goal is threefold: (1) to find out if ITIL already contains the concepts that are usually needed to represent value, (2) to model these concepts according to an EA point of view and (3) to demonstrate how to use an architecture-based approach to choose between ITIL implementation projects.

Evolutionary Business Processes workshop aims at attracting professionals from academia and industry to share the opinions, advance ideas, and discuss preliminary results on current topics related to dynamic and declarative business processes. A particular interest will be taken in theoretical research, empirical evidence about current practices, successful deployment of novel approaches, and practical issues. To this end, contributions stating open problems, case studies, tool presentations, or any other work assessing the practical significance of dynamic and declarative business processes by means of concrete examples and situations, were particularly welcome.

Today's enterprise Architecture Management (EAM) tools are based on forms and graphical modeling capabilities via web-based applications or desktop clients. However, recent developments in textual modeling tools have not yet been considered for EA modeling in research and practice. In this paper we present a novel EAM-tool approach, called Txture, that consists of a textual modeling environment and a web-application to provide enterprise-wide architecture visualizations for different stakeholder groups. the tool is in production use at a major Austrian data center, where it proofed to be intuitive and provide efficient modeling capabilities compared to traditional approaches. In this paper we present lessons learned from the development of the tool as well as usage it and report on its benefits and drawbacks.

this paper reviews the support for modeling KPI-related concepts in several enterprise modelling approaches and enterprise architecture frameworks. the scarcity of KPI modeling in EA approaches led us to open our scope of investigation to proposals in Business Process Management (BPM) area. Inside each approach, we first describe how these efforts propose to align goal-related concepts with KPI-related concepts (if the approach presents some kind of support for goal modeling). Further, the conceptual characterization for modeling KPI-related concepts in the context of EA models is also explored. Finally, we devote some considerations on how the KPI-related concepts are used to measure the properties of the EA elements and evaluate the achievement of goals. We conclude the paper proving challenges for the conceptual representation of a KPI modeling language that aims at measuring goal satisfaction the context of EA models.

the decentralization of organizations and subsequent change to their management and operation style requires major changes in organization processes and heavily involves the IT. this paper demonstrates, however, that EA is primarily aimed at centralized organizational structures and as such has shortcomings when applied to decentralized organizations. Overcoming these deficiencies requires new principles to be introduced and incorporated into EA knowledge. A potential source for these principles are peer-to-peer architectures, which tackles the problem of decentralization in its own way. this paper presents prevalent decentralization principles from peer-to-peer, and how they have the potential to be applied to EA.

Many IaaS providers allow cloud consumers to define elasticity (or auto-scaling) rules that carry out provisioning or de-provisioning actions in response to monitored variables crossing user-defined thresholds. Defining elasticity rules, however, remains as a key challenge for cloud consumers as it requires choosing appropriate threshold values to satisfy performance and cost requirements. In this paper we propose novel analytical models that enable the study of application performance under different elasticity rules. Based on these, we develop algorithms for performing scale-in and scale-out operations. We simulate our models and algorithms using different thresholds, and validate the results against empirical data obtained using the same rules with the TPC-W benchmark on Amazon cloud.

Virtual enterprise is a new business collaboration form, which used to fulfill unique business requirements and make sure small and medium size enterprises can adapt themselves to modern business environment under increasing pressure. In this situation, collaborative enterprises demand an advanced information management system to share valuable knowledge and expertise. enterprise Portal is an enterprise-wide application which has been considered as an opportunity to develop and maintain integrated environments for collaborative business. the benefits of enterprise Portal make it as a new way to approach Virtual enterprise. the purpose of this paper is to introduce a new form of factories collaboration, namely Virtual Factory and elaborate how enterprise Portal provides integrated services to distributed factories. therefore, an open source enterprise Portal Liferay is selected. It enables different factories meet their manufacturing targets. It provides a single tool for all factories to access the real time manufacturing information and products information. In this paper, an innovative method is presented to improve manufacturing process and increase the ability of information sharing across different factories.

Reference architecture can help in enterprise architecture management to develop and operate standardized and maintainable software landscapes. Similar to the software architectures of single systems, however, they are threatened by architecture erosion, i.e. the continuous divergence between intended architectures and their actual realizations. Architecture erosion has negative effects on the maintainability of software systems and on other quality attributes. In this paper, we report on the application of a rule-based architecture conformance checking approach in an industrial case study in which we investigate an industrial reference architecture for the German public administration. the reference architecture and its constraints for implementations are formalized as architecture rules enabling automatic conformance checking tool support. the results from the case study show that the approach is capable of checking reference architecture conformance in realistic settings and helps to avoid software architecture erosion.
